I did this mod on mine soon after they came out. I think it was a mod-wiggler post. I since moved on to an SE I want to mod and was looking for the thread, luckily your video came up! Woo! Thanks!
I'm an old guy (music composer, under performance rights organization BMI, Inc) and I've been playing synths since the very early 1980's. Watching videos like the one you made always amazes me. I do have an Arturia Microbrute and I wrote a few demo songs using it alone on my channel, awesome analog synth for the price. I probably wont do the mod' that you are showing as I don't have a volca.. but I appreciate you showing others out there that do... again really awesome that you spent your time and skill to make this video and to show others out there. - "So says MrTom.. and so it was written..."
As I was watching I thought "damn, this would be awesome to control a Volca Keys, I wonder if polyphony would work though" And then you demonstrated it does ! I would definitely pay for such a mod on my MB, since the only reason I don't buy a Volca Keys is its need for a dedicated MIDI controller...!
Hi, thanks for this video! I'm new to this Midi stuff so may my question sounds dumb. What resistor do you put on the jack and what kind of adapter do you use there?
Hello re, sorry for the late reply. You will need a 100 ohm resistor. Check the schematic at 2:42. Its a midi adapter cable going into a stereo jack. The one I am using in the video is from a Korg SQ 1 sequencer. Great little cable, works great!
Does the midi out also transmit the synchronization of the sequencer for another machine? or is it just the midi out of the keyboard that is transmitted?
Most likely it was never supposed to do that, my wild guess here is that arturia developed this synth using this particular chip, but used only those connections they needed. Someone else has read the specification of the chip and figured out that it is capable of something more. It's like those delays that can be forced to receive taptempo but were never intended to do so. The obvious "mod me please" products come from korg, especially when tats was in charge, they leave some solderpads open and silkscreen their purpose right next to them, as if welcoming you.
Microburte has a USB MIDI. Is it possible to use the USB for MIDI out? Microburte hat doch USB MIDI. Ist es möglich, diesen als MIDI Ausgang zu nutzen?

Oh awesome! Best of luck and hope it goes smooth!
Jesus how do people even figure this kind of thing out in the first place. Great instructional video too! Nice work
Appreciate it! Thanks for checking it out!

This mod makes this synth much more valuable to me. Really appreciate that! Its such a cool little synth!

Awesome! Going to do this mod tomorrow
Awesome good luck and take your time!!!
@@spacebraincircuits1358 didn't imagine these pins were so tiny. Don't have the right material right now unfortunately
@@pieterv224 I know!! Yes, I even practiced on some broken equipment before starting.
@@spacebraincircuits1358 solder bridges between leg 82, 83 and 84 and I can't get rid of them... I'm afraid I fucked up
@@pieterv224 Oh no! be very careful! do you have flux? douse it and go slow!

Thanks for watching.Yes I agree, I love my Volca Keys but the tiny keyboard.... I really wish MIDI out came standard on the Microbrute.

Thanks bro 👍
Hi!! exelent work! but, Would it be the same result if the volca had a midi out? Thanks!
Yes you can! There is a Midi Out mod for the Volcas that is way easier. Just a quick google!
Does the midi out also transmit the synchronization of the sequencer for another machine? or is it just the midi out of the keyboard that is transmitted?
just the keyboard unfortunately... :( I was hoping for the same!
I ended up designing my own sequencer, check out my other vids!
So cool!Arturia engineers prepare synth to make this mod)

I still don't get the difference between out and in.
Midi out will allow you to control another synth using the Microbrute keyboard.
How do you set the midi out channel?
I believe you are stuck with Midi Channel 1.
Microburte has a USB MIDI. Is it possible to use the USB for MIDI out?
Microburte hat doch USB MIDI. Ist es möglich, diesen als MIDI Ausgang zu nutzen?
I believe you can use the USB as MIDI out. Might be worth checking the manual!
Does it pass MIDI thru?
Nah unfortunately no
You're giving me ideas to operate on my microbrute... bwuaahhahah
Once you start modding, you can never turn back. Thinking about adding some CV mods next :)
