Easy Tips for Propagating and Repotting Snake Plants
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лип 2019
- Is your snake plant‘s pot bulging uncomfortably? Does the foliage seem to be suffering? If so, it may be time to think about how repotting snake plant is done.
It’s not a difficult task. Depending on the age of your sansevieria plant, you may be able to divide it at the same time, thus making a second plant!
The mother in law's tongue is an oddly named, but easy to care for plant that everyone should have in their houseplant collection.

Wait how did you break up the roots of each plant? Were the roots intertwined? That may have been more helpful than showing how to pour dirt on a planter 🤣.
Yeah, the only part I was unsure about was how to break it up without hurting either plant.... I understand how to put dirt and a plant in a planter.
Got into houseplants and gardening this year and having to learn everything by reading watching videos and researching. Im starting to see lots of miss information with so many different channels, I wanted to say how much I appreciate that your not putting out false information but that you seem to genuinely care about what your doing and your sharing what you learned. Your information has been reliable and with how expensive this hobby can be, I appreciate it. Do you have content on Monstera and Fiddle leaf fig? Also going to start setting up my house for the coming winter, I really want to help my plants flourish over the winter. I don’t want to pour all this time and energy only to kill them so any information you have about that would be awesome
Like you said, just keep doing it how you want and you will attract the right viewers! I, for one, will still be here to watch every new video you put out simply because I enjoy your personality and style. Keep on growing 🤙🏻
Kayleigh I agree, I also like the fact that everything he says is useful; there’s no waffle. ☺️
The planter is fabulous🙌🏻😍
"Even something as simple as repotting a snake plant." Literally, the reason I found this video...and subscribed. \m/
You were right on time with this video! Couldn't believe I overwatered my large snake plant and woke up this morning to several dead leaves slumped over my pot. I had to repot with fresh soil and cut so many leaves off with root rot! I was too scared to water it today, but I will have to tomorrow. Thanks for the vid. You rock❤
Oh no! At least you got to it early
I just did this last week! my birds nest sanseveria had 3 babies I separated. I used 2.5 inch pots with cactus mix for the babies until they grow bigger. they are SO cute!
So exciting!!
I just did this too, but apparently I did it all wrong. lol I repotted it in a very large pot in inappropriate potting soil. Hopefully it survives because I love it.
@@MsJeanneMarie if you really did the wrong pot and soil I would try it again. I have done this with some plants if they are not too delicate.
I wish you had finished the planter today....it looks promising👍👍👍
I'll finish it up in a later vid :)
Cultivated 👍
Awesome how to video. Thanks so much for sharring it.
Keep up the good work
God bless you
You too!
How is your snake plant doing? I was glad to see a snake plant video by you, so thanks! I have my first little one I got from fb marketplace yesterday. 🌱
Super cute planter!
I also watched a really long video on propagation.. They showed that if you cut the snake plant leaf in half and just stick the top half in the soil, it will root. I thought that was pretty cool..
That'll work, yes!
Beautiful sansevierias and I love the planter! Looking forward to seeing what plants you add in the middle. I think a mix of topics is interesting! 🌱🌱🌱
Glad to hear!
I love the variety in your channel. I found you while looking for a propagating video and when I found out that you also grow food...SOLD! You dont need a "specialty", specialize in Doing YOU. 💛
Appreciate it, Lynn :)
lynn682 Definitely do you because so far I’ve watched 9 videos straight and I’m still going. 👍🏼
I love the snake plant ...I have had mine for years... Mine is very healthy and they love light.. mine has new growth very often and new babies.. Gardening is your thing young man. You have a lot of knowledge and that takes you a long way for your entire life actually. I have grown and planted plants all my life..it is so enjoyable..
Very much appreciate this!
Great idea...for a planter..
I just got a snake plant from home depo. Can I use normal garden soil mixed with sand to report it?
Thanks so much for this informative video! Quick question - I currently do not have the cactus soil that you are showing in your video. Would an all-purpose blend soil work as well for repotting? Many thanks!
I luv snake plants! What a cool flower pot!
Reusing old soil is a good thing ❤️
I added to my compost pile ;)
Not necessarily. There could be mold, diseases in old soil.
good vid - had a laugh tho, when I was scanning thru my subscriptions vids, I thot your title was "REPORT your snake plant " lol!
😂
@@epicgardening yep - wondered what a snake plant might do that would cause them to be reported, & where to report? ;-)
LOL
Good video...i never knew or actually thought about it.😀 Food for thought and fuel for action.✌🏼
Get after it!
It’s your chanel, do what pleases you! 😊
That's the plan!
I love my poor little neglected snake plants! I saw some snake plants nest at a local grocery store and I was so tempted I've never seen him at that height... anyhow great video I can't wait to see what else you're adding to your pot!
Thanks for the video. How long should I wait to water the snake plant after repotting?
As long as the soil is dry, right away. Just posted a detailed video on repotting my snake plant on my channel. Check it out!
I'm confused. On one of your video about snake plants, you mentioned that it would be better to use an African Violet Potting Soil. But here you're using a cactus mix. Which is correct please?
Thanks for the info!
Okay, my snake plant, Sir Hiss, is having babies!!! I am so happy! ELATED! The plastic pot from the store is bulging. I am scared to change it.
You didn't show the most important thing which is to split the plants for each other in your video at all...
Nice!i thought you might show some leaf cuttings! That would be another nice video!
Shall do!
Epic Gardening excellent! Right now I am propagating coleus, mint, basil, prayer plants, and African violets My grand daughters were visiting and really liked them. Plants will be a part of there Christmas Present haul. They might get Sansevieria too!
Thanks for sharing🌱
Hi! I think you're right in having a diverse range of videos. I think it will draw more subscribers to your Channel. :-)
Thanks Laura!
Hello I over Water it, it had 5 leaf s n 2 died of so I repoted it but when I did the rooot ball came off. Can I be saved ? I put rooting harmone on it . or should I put it in water , but now I look at it, another leaf is turning yellow what gives ? 🤔😲
Thanks! I see your lovely lemon lime dracaena on the table. I’ve moved mine indoors for the winter and now it’s leaves are browning 😢 i barely water it and mist weekly. Any tips?
Can you help me? I know you posted this video while ago but I have a snake plant and only half of her Leaf is dried, the other half looks healthy, it's weird and I don't know what to do. Can you help me? Do you have any advice
Like you i have a variety of plants and love it.
Awesome!
what kind of soil should be used for snake plants?
do you have any brand recommendations for soil for snake plants/bamboo/succulents? i try to look on amazon but honestly a lot of promising brands still have really concerning reviews. sorry if this is a silly question im really just clueless when it comes to repotting. thank you in advance!
I have it linked under my repotting snake plant vid. Check me out
I love that planter, do you know where it came from?
Added it to the description! Also hit them up on IG @terrasculpture
I was wondering the same! Thx for asking. 👏🏽
Very informative video👍👌😍💚
Thank you!
Thanks. I have really tall snake plants that need to be separated. I agree--they do want good sun. I've kept them in the shadows and they kind of collapse. Hey! You and I bought several of the same "exotic" seeds from Baker's Creek this year. What did you think after growing them? I didn't actually get much planted this year--but two new things I did plant from them were big successes this year---Chinese Red Noodle Beans and Ronde de Nice squash. I'd love to see a video telling us about how you liked the new stuff you planted.
Oh! And while I didn't get many at all, the Ras melons (small canteloupes) were pretty good, too.
Have you ever bought the Bradford watermelon seeds? Heirloom that lost favor due to not being an easy shipper. I have 3 and they are huge and I'm about poised over one with a knife! Can't wait to try them! Seeds were expensive from the Bradford family (bought through Sow True Seed). If I let them go too long then at least I'll have good planting seed and I can use the rind for watermelon rind pickles and maybe juice it. Anyway, I love that you are a garden nerd, as I am, and can't wait to hear more about how things went for you this year.
I loved the chinese amaranth and the job's tears, those were both big successes for me!
Haven't grown Bradford yet!
I like that planter; but, it looks heavy. I've had a lot of different houseplants over the years. I'm not sure I've ever had a snake plant, though.
You're right, it is super heavy! definitely get a snake plant, they are so easy to take care of and there's a ton of different varieties
I found it funny you used a saucer for your watering can, do you use them as coasters for cups too?
I also noticed you have what looks like white plates/filters, what are those? Sorry if you’ve already explained before.
They're just actually white plates hahaha...sometimes I run out of sauces
YOUR OPINION:
What do you think about homemade soil amendments (Banana peel water/Red onion etc)?
Seen a lot of "how to's)... But not a lot of opinions in the Popular Plant Community.
🌿💚
Will need to do a video on those!
I really like your videos, keep them coming
You know it Donna!
hello , I have a same plant in small size but for some reason its roots are not growing and so is the plant, what do u think is the reason , plz advise
Not enough light probably
@@epicgardening I have kept it in the south window for so long now and it's not helping
sanseveria have shallow roots and prefer to be root bound. isn't this new rectangular pot too much space for the roots?
He just said he was going to add other plants in there.. In no time at all it's going to be root bound again. I'm sure it will be happy.
@@karenlatham4053 I get that I am new to plants. I though maybe the plants would prefer to be root bound on their own but combining is neat and I hope he updates us on the progress
I'll be adding more to "cramp" them a bit don't worry 😊
@@epicgardening neat! can't wait to see the arrangement you do. I have never thought of combining sanseveria but I like the idea
Man I have a HUGE one that won’t stand up. You have encouraged me to get it done tomorrow. She will be so much happier!
Hi Kevin! Great video, as usual! I enjoy the variety of your videos, and if someone doesn't want to watch them all, they don't have to. Can't wait to see what you add. Also, would you please do a video on combining more then one type of plant in a pot? I'm kinda on the fence about doing this and considering grouping them for the same effect. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thank you for sharing!
For sure, that's what I'll do on this follow-up video to this planter!
plant dad: check. handsome: check. passionate: check
sigh
looking for instructions on how to separate the individual plants, you skipped over that part, oh well.
lol Those roots don’t look like shrimp... 😒. I have a slightly different variety of snake plant.
Rotting always
Wtf there was nothing on propagating
