#TeachDem #Shinehead
As a child growing up Shinehead was my hero... This man was the coolest coot in the 90s. Long live uncle shines!
I'm only 35 minutes in and I'm loving this interview. Shinehead is arguably ( possibly Don Barron with Masters Of Ceremony) the first to incorporate reggae / dancehall with hip hop. His story is similar to many of us born in the U.K to Jamaican parents, paid dues in JA and then come a foreign. Listening to him go back and forth from patois to yankee is the same way me and my cousins and close friends talk. It's like listening to a friend......Born in England ( Sheffield) went to JA ( Portland) at 5 , then come to The Bronx at 8 1/2 in 1972. I can totally relate. 🇬🇧🇯🇲🇺🇲!!!
Shinehead is a legend, bless up Teachdem
This man is a icon in dancehall/ hip hop scene in the 80s to mid 90s
A stable in the NYC dancehall culture 💯💯💯💯
First time I heard Shinehead I fell in love with his style of rapping and DJ it was just unique to me
Shinehead is brilliant, and you can tell by this interview...an intellect. Lyrically gifted. His accolades are much, and he doesn't brag about them. He needs to do more shows in Jamaica to introduce more people to his talent.
Accurate comment!
He did his thing already no need to re-invent the wheel
So there are Jamaicans who don't know who Shinehead is???? 🤔
Teac I’ve never been more excited for one of your interviews. I’m delighted you got this one. Big up Shines!!!

Multi - talented artist
Reggae lounge days! African love! Great to see Shinehead!
Shinehead is truly humble. I saw Shinehead on Bronxwood Avenue (Bronx) by a restaurant around 1990 when he was highly popular. He was sitting on the curb talking holding a reasoning. No entourage, no bodyguard. Just Shines. I was amazed how approachable he was. One of the reasons I love reggae and dancehall is how humble so many of our artists are. Next, Shinehead paved the way for Shaggy and so many others to be taken seriously by the music industry as Jamaican artists who sound Jamaican but want to be heard on R&B and hip hop stations. Shinehead gets love from Jr Gong and KRS 1 because they are true to the game and know Shines is a big part of their foundation. Last, Strive is my favourite of the many loved Shinehead tunes. I saw an amazing video of Shinehead performing Strive at a huge concert in the 80s (I thought it was Sunsplsh). He started singing but the crowd did not know where he was. By the time the camera found him he had come down from I think a video tower into the crowd. Of course the crowd went wild and rush him. He could be heard telling security that he is OK as he continued to sing and weave his way to the stage. By the time he got to the stage the crowd was fully in his control. It was the most amazing display I have seen of how much love and trust were shared been a Jamaican artist and the fans. Respec, Love and Honor Shinehead. Bless!
Legendary and Epic! Shinehead remains ruffnrugged . . . Apprecilove you sharing him on your platform to relate his story. Shinehead has been in this game for greater than a minute and has had great impact in influencing our music and culture internationally. Big up Shinehead, and bless up Teach and Crew🇯🇲💪🏽🙏🏽❤️

Yo mi haffi roll a big head spliff”salute shine head so much memories from my youth in NYC
Shinehead did perform on reggae sunsplash. I think it was 1988, while performing "Stive", he left the stage and climbed up the engineer tower in the middle of the audience.
Shinehead is an extremely unique artist because he masters singing, rapping and djing. The only artist that comes close to this is Sizzla.
Yes i remembered Shinehead at Reggae Sunsplash with his A-Team Band in the late 80s or the early 90s ... he was one of the first Dancehall Artiste do all the antics like climbing the rails of Stage n walking off the Stage in the Air hoisted by patrons in the audience n back on to the Stage without going on the ground... one of the best Stage Performers back in the day
I thought so 2. Didn’t remember the year. The video is actually on UA-cam
yes at Sunsplash, but not sumfest as teach dem stated
Excellent interview. Shinehead is a stalwart. He paved the way for Jamaican music internationally in his own way. Big big impact on the cross over between reggae/dancehall and hip hop/rap. Nuff respect Mr. Shinehead. Peace.
Love this interview and artist. Shinehead...you are an inspiration! What a great interview! Jah bless.

1ne sHINE HEAD THE LEGEND! RAGGAMUFFIN, “…USE TO RIDE ON TRAINS AND IN BETWEEN CARS AND IF I EVER FELL I’D SEE MORE THAN STARS…” Only them who know can relate. The man the great who frequented 238th in the 850 Bimmer in the summers 🆙 Strive is one of the most motivational songs ever. That song got played almost every morning on the radio inJamaica during the 80s …it was so powerful that as a student at the great College (JC) I would step of the bus at 189 Old Hope in the mornings and think I could accomplished anything; BIG UP STAR💥BoomShot!
