Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on UA-cam, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on UA-cam. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on UA-cam, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

Incredible song, when it came out I was a teen, first job, building my life, often at odds with my Dad,as a teen you just know everyone over 20 is too old to know what it is like to be young, now I am 70 & look at the song rather differently, still brings a rear to my eye,it always did!

This is considered one of the best and well known folk rock storytelling tunes of the 1970’s! Cat Stevens was his stage name and changed his name to Yusuf after becoming deeply religious in the Moslem religion.

"From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen" - some of the best lyrics - ever.

Cat Stevens was massive in the early 70's,..one of the top Artists in the world. Along with Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield , Tapestry by Carole King, and Dark side of the moon by Floyd, everyone seemed to have his " Tea for the Tillerman " which is where this song is taken. Good reaction, you summed it up pretty well on your first hearing.

I saw him in his early career in 67 at Bolton Odeon on a package tour with Engelbert Humperdink The Walker Bros and Jimi Hendrix. Was mind blowing, by 72 he was a mega star.

This song resonated for me when first released as a rebellious 16 year old. I saw it exactly the same as from the son’s perspective. When I am became a father of two sons years later I listed to the song again and this time the father sounded much more reasonable than I remembered. Ah, the circle of life.

He converted to Islam in 1977 and changed his name to Yusuf Islam in 1979. He then stopped writing and recording music. He started singing again in the last few years.

*This song is 54 years old.* Except for the fact that back then it seems there were many more parent-child (not just father-son) abrasions as children grow up and begin making their own decisions, it's aged beautifully.
--- > I was 12 when this song came out in 1970 on the Tea for the Tillerman album. Pretty much everyone everywhere bought it as soon as it appeared in the stores. (This was WAY before the internet.) I still know all the words to almost every song he put out. That's the staying power of meaningful songs, right there. ❀
-- -- > I had really great, understanding, supportive parents back in the day, and we still found generational stuff difficult at times.
-- -- -- > My own children are 35 and 27; and despite everything I know, and how I wanted to be to/for them, and all my better intentions, I still found myself on the other side of these kinds of interactions a time or two. The most important thing is to listen to each other - to really *hear* each other.
    But, sometimes, both sides hurt.

"Cat Stevens" stage name for Yusuf Islam, born (Steven Demetre Georgiou), he converted to Islam in 1977 and changed his name. Thank you for reacting to this song, if you can🎸 "Peace Train" 🎸is my favorite song by him, would love to see👀 your reaction to it.

After having some short success with 'Matthew and Son' on the British charts he came out with a series of brilliant albums, starting with 'Mona Bone Jakon', which contains the single 'Lady D'Arbanville', a sad song of his separation from his love at the time, Patti D'Arbanville. That is worth a listen but anything from the follow up album, 'Tea for the Tillerman', where the single 'Father and Son' comes from, I consider his best effort. 'Teaser and the Firecat' and 'Catch Bull at Four', which came next, form part of the 4 albums in that 1970-1972 period that were just sublime....we were very lucky to have such musicians as the Cat at that time.

Touching song. I played it once for my daughter when I moved her from Chicago to Boston. She never it before. Then she requested that I sing it at her wedding. Definitely a high point in my life! So emotional! 🥲❤

I like listening to the song. The "classic generation conflict". Maybe more intense then than in other times; maybe not... I was just young back then.

Cat was swimming off Malibu and got swept out by a rip current. He believed he was going to drown so he made a deal with God that he would do anything in exchange for help to survive. The reason he chose Islam was that he had met some devotees right afterwards and thought that was a sign pointing in that direction.

You got it right. (most dont). Beautiful Song. Beautiful Man....."If they were right I'd agree. but it them they know not me". Is the story so many artist have to go threw ....He has a dozen or more great great songs. Peace Train/Morning has Broken/Wild Word on and on... What many don't know ... In the years prior to his conversion to Islam he had TB which in those days was very dangerous disease... He spent near a year in a sanatorium (hospital) watching half the people in the beds around him die. Changed his life, he no longer wanted the fame and everything that had gone with it. Dropped out to religion for a few decades...But his songs never left us ..

Alls I know is Cat Stevens ain't no Dog Stevens. That said, check out all of his hit songs, plus one he sings in Latin called "O Caritas"...which is pretty easy to memorize, and thus know a little Latin. Hunc ornatum Mundi, nolo perdere, video flagare, omnia res. "Peace Train" is essential listening too, as is "If You Want to Sing Out"...which is important because it is in the soundtrack of "Harold and Maude", which is essential viewing from the '70s, and which you will love every minute. Thanks for being a good father. I had one too, but they are in shortening supply.
