If someone haven't heard this music. You really should. I haven't tracked down the box yet, but i will. Dave is right on the money when Halvorsen is concerned. Thanks again, Dave. You nailed it! 🎼🎶🎶🎶

I’ve long enjoyed Järvi’s conducting of Russian nationalist works and other Nordic composers (e.g. Svendsen and Sibelius), so I look forward to listening to these recordings. Thank you for the introduction.

Absolutely love Halvorsen! Definitely want to get this. Have you ever reviewed the works of Swedish composer Hugo Alfven? Another one of my favorite Scandinavian composers. Gorgeous symphonies with brilliant orchestration!

I was sitting in my car one night listening to Peter Van de Graaf's all-night show where I heard Halvorsen's MASCARADE Suite. One of the Movements, the HANEDANSE (or "Cock" Dance...sorry...it's a dance of Roosters) was SO DELIGHTFUL that I quickly began buying Halvorsen's works, and yes...most are very enjoyable. But it's that Hanedanse that remains one of the coolest things I've ever heard. For years I intended to locate the music and play it OFTEN with my orchestra as a curtain-raiser or encore, but never got around to it. I'd suggest that everyone reading this get the Halvorsen set and put on the Hanedanse every morning to start the day right. LR

I've been listening to the Lili Kraus box - Milestones of a pianist legend. Her playing reminds me of Sandor Vegh's conducting. Full of life, energetic and smiling - especially in the Mozart and Haydn sonatas.

This is a grear box set, lovely symphonies but also lots more great melodic romantic music. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the hurdy-gurdy type moments of the folk tunes, and to me the Passacaglia adaptation for violin and viola is a revelation

I have heard a couple of Halvorsen's symphonies and agree that they are indeed refreshing and invigorating works.
Dave would you agree with me that Grieg whilst not known for large scale compositions wrote two orchestral works ( apart from Peer Gynt) which I think are masterly, one is the incidental music to Sigurd Jorsafelt and the superb set of Symphonic Dances.

Talking about lesser-known music, do you know Lopes-Graça’s Heroic Songs (Canções Heróicas)?
Speaking of Portuguese composers, I am very curious to know if you know any of the music of Antonio Victorino D’Almeida?
I believe that you will love any of the music mentioned above!(Please consider listening to Victorino D’Almeida’s Piano Concerto (Concerto para Piano e orquestra), it is a great piece, sadly unknown to the world, only available on UA-cam and maybe a sequel to Lopes-Graça’s Concertos)

Dave - Have you ever done a video on Michael Haydn? I was thinking he's a lot like Halvorsen; great music that nobody seems to know about. I just got his big box and there is so much good stuff in there. If you think Joseph doesn't get the attention he deserves, poor Michael is barely ever mentioned (or recorded). Maybe it's because he's the little brother of the father of classical music...but I think he deserves a little bit of the spotlight. Would love to hear your thoughts someday.

I was able to get it directly from Chandos, after seeing this video. Really cheap also (about 20 Euros) Perhaps you could try... I live in Portugal, I don't know if they still have it and if they can ship it to wherever you may be...
