  • Bad relay on the BCM - 2013 Fiat 500 Pop. Following Rob Greuling's videos (1-3): tinyurl.com/y53mrd4r, I disassembled the BCM and tapped on the relay(s). That fixed the problem - for one light on:off cycle. I looked up the relays and they were very inexpensive (~$4 each). I decided to replace them! It was far from easy, but I was successful (so far)!

So first off thanks for the video! Yours and another video, along with my own trial and error fixed my problem.
Things to add (I have a 2012 Fiat 500 sport)
You don't have to remove the two circuit boards. I tried your way, and I could not pull them apart. I thought all was lost, and a friend suggested, why don't we remove the big connector on the back of the relays. This proved to be a waaaay easier way. Simply remove the connector underneath the relays and it will allow you to get to the solder points and replace them. I had to heat my gun to over 400 degrees to desolder those relay points, but was finally able to get them off.
Hope this helps the next person!

these helpful videos all lack images or video of the actual part getting fixed and it’s really frustrating

I was gong to post a video about doing the head light repair when I found this one. Great close up of the push-in header pins. I didn't want to risk cracking the PCBs by pressing them apart so I cut the push-in headers in two using a rotary tool and a small diamond disk. I was careful not get metal bits onto the logic board. After the logic and power boards are separated the plastic of the headers can be crushed using a "vice-grip" type tool and removed. The press-on pins can then be removed individually without flexing the PCB. The two replacement 26 pin headers have the standard 0.1" spacing and need to be about 20mm in length. A spacer is also needed between the PCBs to keep them separated by 0.38".
Relays are cheep and failure common enough that they should be in sockets. My 2¢.

You should post your method if you taped it... I did what I did because that's all I could figure out... Never experienced push-in headers before (dabbled with electronics over the years - mostly µcontrollers). If your way is easier, let folks know! My way was a pain for sure....

The FIAT dealer told me it was going to be upwards of $1600 to replace the BCM due to this issue... Great video, between this and Rob's videos I am thinking I will attempt to gently grind down the original relays until just the pins are exposed from the top of the board and solder the new relays to those newly exposed pins. I wish FIAT would recall the cars for this because obviously it is a common enough issue and super messed up that people should have to replace the BCM out of pocket. (sigh) I hope I have some success trying it my way but if not I'll be doing it your way... Thanks for this video!

You can do it with a little patience. Good hot iron. Go slow.

They put so much effort into engineering ways to make it so difficult to repair simple things. One cant help but wonder, what if they put this kind of effort into just engineering components that were not junk in the first place. But its all about the money, their idea of quality now is simply a question. Will it get through warranty?

Instead of do all of this I was going to jump power to the light circuit and have a. Switch to turn it on and off. This would just bypass the relays and make them manual switched i going to use inline fuses and pull

Are you unable to turn on the headlights?
My DRL cannot be started, I have updated the lamps and confirmed that there is no disconnection in the BCM line
Will it be the same control relay?
    Thank you

Great video, finally found some help to my problem. My tail lights don't come on with the left headlight. As soon as I turn on lights I get a yellow triangle on the dash. Could the BCM be the culprit? It's driving me insane!

    • @tjboydva
      @tjboydva  Рік тому +1

Wow - I don't know. If one headlight comes on, perhaps it's not the relay (should control both)? I bet it's something different because my issue had the lights on no matter what (relay activated with no power)... Sorry! You can get a cheap bluetooth OBDII connector and use an app called Torque to see what the error codes are?

Do a lot of research before doing stuff like this.I just replaced the turn signal relay in the BSI of my Fiat(right side signals weren't working),now the car doesn't recognise my keys, and both sides sugnals work, but faster?and only side repeater signals and rear signals work.

@@flavioasramos Yes,i just soldered in another relay on the bsi circuit board,'but',it was caused by a shorted wire that was touching the bodywork on it's way to the rear lights of my van!
