This part was so heartwarming to me. Like "I can't go right now but if you want me to spend 3 days in a plane with you for no reason, I'm game in a few days!" is so much stronger than just saying "I love you" back when Doug says it. His actions and reactions make it apparent that he does.

He sprays the cologne on his neck area and chest almost instantly, but delays a bit before spraying it on his crotch, he also doesn't specifically look into the mirror when he does it on his neck and chest, but before he sprays it on his crotch he specifically looks into the mirror, sprays and then has that satisfied look.
