Chuck's wonderful opening comments suggest it is not necessarily the cars we miss from our childhood years, but our childhood itself. Great story and good to see two schoolboy buddies still in touch.

Lou: congratulations to the owner of this fine car.
This was when cars were cars! This is a class act,
    timeless classic beauty,
    when Buick was Buick.
I do remember these as a kid, the good old days.
I'd like to have a '60 Buick Invicta convertible which is similar to this one.

The adjustable mirror for the instrument panel was called 'Mirromatic'. That was the right roller knob. The instrument cluster actually laid down flat and the mirror reflected the image back to the driver and you could tilt the mirror to adjust it to any driver's preference. 1960 was the last year Buick used the enclosed drive shaft or Torque Tube. The transmission was a double turbine Dynaflow and was the final and best version. 1961 was the last year Buick used the Dynaflow. A triple turbine Dynaflow, I think, was still available as optional on the Electra. It was more trouble prone than the less complicated double turbine. The LeSabre used a 364 CID engine while the Invicta & Electra used a 401 CID engine. If you notice, the shape of the front of the headlamp 'pods' resemble the jet engine nacelles of the B-47 & B-52 bombers.

    Hi Lou . . .
I bought this exact car, with the exception of a black top, in 1960 - price - $4,000. Also bought '63 and '65 Wildcat convertibles (priced $4,300 and $,4500 respectively), but this was my favorite. Only maintenance was replacing the 'plastic' zippered back window. Thanks for sharing.

My parents had a new 1960 Buick Invicta and, much later, I had a used 1960 Buick Electra 225. The Electra 225 had electric windows and front seat, plus factory AC. I agree that the sculpted design was beautiful. Both cars had the flat-top roof option, making the visibility 360 degrees. I especially liked the unique mirror adjustment for viewing the speedometer for tall or short drivers. It also had a foot-activated ignition rather than the usual key start. The 1959 model lacked the mirror adjustable speedometer, and the wraparound windows were gone from the 1961 and succeeding models, so designwise, the 1960 model was tops.

I like the 1960 Much Better than the similar designe 1959. I did not like the canted headlights of the 1959. The 1960 just looked cleaner and smoother. Loved the fins and the simple tail lights. It was a great combination...then came 1961! Please watch Lou's video of a 1961 Invicta. Thanks Lou. I'm enjoying these videos so much!

1960 Buick was much more refined than the 59. I had a baby blue 60 Olds, & preferred that slightly, but it's a toss up. There is a guy in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa who has a fleet of 1959 American made cars, all of them except a Rambler. His favorite is without question the Cadillac.

in 1960, this was just a mid priced car that most any factory worker could have bought. if they made a car like this today, it would cost more than a Rolls Royce. now Buicks are just glorified golf carts from china. really sad how we've devolved.

Another work of art. Never seen one let alone heard the name! LeSabre - nice! Love the diagonal fin treatment both front and rear! Balances the body beautifully 👍🏽 very tastefully designed as opposed to the 50’s style of fin treatment. Most unusual and seemingly hard to get ur hands on a convertible. What was the number made? 13,000 was quoted i think? Yes. Would like to see the sedan counterpart? Mmmm. Thanks for presenting another lovely car!

I once had the opportunity to buy a white 1960 Buick convertible, for $500, back during the '80's. And I believe that one was also a runner. But being that I did not have the garage to store it in, nor the money to restore it, it is best that that car went to somebody who did have the garage and the money to restore it, rather than me buy it and let it sit outside for 30 years. Therefore I do not have any lingering regrets about not having bought it.
On another note, I believe 1960 was the first year that GM started to shrink their fins. I had a 1960 Cadillac back in 1984. And indeed, their fins started to shrink on the Cadillac in 1960. As 1959 was the year Cadillac had the largest fins ever for any car!

real nice presentation, regarding the wildcat decal on the air cleaner, don't recall Buick putting anything out as a wildcat version in 1960 and especially not with the 364 cubic inches that this Special would of came with stock from the factory and not till the late run 1963's when the Wildcat models were introduced and then they came as a punched out 401 cubic inch nailhead.

My first car was a 1960 Pontiac Catalina but what I'd wanted most was a '60 Buick convertible. I agree with the owner of this vehicle that it is really a rolling piece of artwork. I still see them once in a while but they are very rare. The only car that Buick ever made to rival the beauty of the 1960 model were the Riviera models of the early 1970s.

I like the 1959 Buick grille too. Buick went from the ridiculous in 1958 to the sublime in 1959. The grille pattern was the same but the heavy-handed troweling of chrome onto the sides and rear of the 1958 was eliminated on the 1959 and replaced with gracefully swooping lines and sloping fins that accentuated the length of the car.

Lou Costabile I have favorite cars from the '20s and up. The '29 Cord, the first front-wheel drive car and the Cords from the mid 30s are definite likes. The Chrysler 300 series from the 60s and the Turbine experimental cars. From the 50s, not too many cars are on my hot sheet, save for the Edsel. All the correct studies, all the good demographics, all the marketing, and it tanked, nonetheless. Then the muscle car era and the cubic inch and horsepower wars in the 60s. Nothing like a 427 ci engine in a Nova, and trim it like a no power grocery grabber. And, regardless of the car model, option it anyway you like. Take a Chevy Biscayne and option it with a 396, 4 speed and performance rear end. As for now, nothing really turns my head, everything is so cookie cutter similar. Just look at the Chevrobuillacs. The only vehicles that have any distinctiveness today are trucks.
