Solo in Chechnya - The State Within a State

- In this video I'm bringing you on the journey to Chechnya - one of the Russia's least explored regions.
Join me on an exploration of Chechnya, starting with its capital, Groznyy. I narrate its recent history, marked by two devastating wars, the deportation of Chechens, and the imposition of a regime intertwined with Kremlin politics. Venturing beyond Groznyy, my journey takes an unexpected turn as I hitchhike to a nearby town, uncovering the hidden truths and tensions lurking beneath Chechen society's surface. Exploring further, I encounter significant landmarks that speak volumes about Chechnya's cultural and religious identity. Along the rugged paths, unexpected encounters with locals reveal the true essence of Chechen hospitality..

06:32 - Legacy of Akhmat Kadyrov - the mufti of Ichkeria who turned into the Putin's ally

17:15 - Journey to the lake Kezenoy-Am. Trying local food.
22:46 - Khoy - ancient Chechen settlement
25:51 - The biggest mosque in Europe in Shali

That driver was brave to say that to the camera, as well as honest and kind. That interview was a phenomenal insight into the world of Chechnya that I did not know about.
I'm not sure what your talking about ?? Here in America that happens on a hourly rate just look at the cops in Mississippi !! 6 cops tortured 2 black men for hours😢😢 America is a total abomination your saver living under Stalin !!
yeah I really respect that, but I think it would be better if he blurred his face in the video. The chance is slim that he gets into trouble for what he said, but It's still there and better risk anything
@@bot-sk8mtlooks like it's blurred now! nice to see
Nothing to worry about. The interview was staged according to the best traditions of the Western fake news
@@offan- great move by Vagabond, lot of respect for his move to add that
That interview with the first driver was shocking, I hope that gentleman will be okay. It was incredibly brave of him to share his story.
I 👍 agree!
I think the video should be taken down to blur his face and car for safety and then re-uploaded.
I went to Chechnya just before COVID and found most people speak very freely. The most dangerous thing for the driver was driving on that road.
@@emilkarpo You're a tourist. You don't know what happens there from a local perspective
He's most likely dead
I would blur the face of that driver and other people that tell you sensitive stuff. Would be sad if people get in trouble for telling their story. I respect you for putting such serious topics in your videos and hope you continue doing it, but I would really take all possible precautions to not get the people you talk to into trouble.
Looks like he added blurring
maybe blur his face in the rearview mirror as well? local opinions really give these videos a whole new depth
Oh, he published the video firstly without blurred faces ? If so, then BIG BIG thumb down.
Right? I mean he didn't even blur the car nor change his voice.
Too late he is already gone
please hide the face of the man in the car it could be dangerous for him if what he said is true
Can't believe he published the video without blurred faces and altered voice. It is a big mistake to endanger the peoples` lifes just because of a UA-cam interview.
Bro, your English gets better and better. Thanks for always having great content
I will never get to see these places in Eastern Europe, so I want to thank you for showing myself & others these nations. 🙏
Bidding you Safe Travels, from the 🇺🇸
The Caucasus is not eastern Europe.
@@mayabergsdottir9622 The Caucasus Mountains separate Eastern Europe and West Asia. Where did you go to school, if ever?
@@chechnya ask your mama, she knows ;))
@@chechnyaare Ural Mountains and Caucasus mountains same?
@@chechnya They are more Asia than Europe
Thank you again. The Caucasus are one of the most beautiful places on the planet and the people are kind and hospitable.

You have taught me so much with your travels. I only wish you spent more time talking to the people you meet along the way but I understand that you try to show us the most you can within your time span. So many interesting places, especially the remote ones. I'm interested in trains and you always find the most interesting facts and captures of them. Thank you for bringing our far away neighbors a lot closer to me and all of your viewers.
Thank you for showing us the region. The nature and the mountains are very beautiful! The local cuisine looks very delicious!
A fascinating glimpse into the places and lives behind the headlines we have all seen regarding Chechnya. Thank you, Ivan.
I have heard a lot about this place but this is my first time seeing footage. Thanks from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Always enjoy the candid views! I know its part of an earlier tour! Keep safe

Man I love this channel.
Splendid video. Congrats from Portugal, on the very edge of Europe.
Amazing!!!! Thank you!
Может не стоило показывать лицо и машину того кто тебе рассказывал что людей забирают?
Ну...
So he published without blurred faces? Big big thumb down for that. 👎
Fairy tales are all this, how do you believe in it? Most likely they took it off, left and posted it
Сказки все это, как вы в это верите? Скорее всего сняли, уехали и выложили

It's good you document this for before and after...
Very enjoyable perspective.
Safe travels.❤️
Very cool Mr VV. I love seeing the old settlements and the Mosque buildings are really incredible.
I admire you because you travel to dangereous places, sleeping in tents and all by yourself. Hitchhiking can be risky too. So thank you so much for showing us these exotic places and good luck in your next trips
Very amazing video. Thank for providing the backstory or the Chechen republic , as I always wanted to visit this beautiful country, and i was able to learn a-lot -about Chechnya through your video.
Thank you
Im Wating for each video of yours, and i admire the way you travel, as someone who likes to explore the world and maybe someday record it, you are an insperation for me, like no one else in UA-cam, With so much authenticity, thanks for your videos and keep on going ivan, love from israel
Really interesting. Ty Mr Vaga
I always enjoy your video tours. It's very interesting to see places I know I will never visit personally.
Love the vids easly my fav youtuber
Love the mountains scenery!
great video. There is much to learn.
Hey ,Great video adventures my friend 👌🌹🇬🇧
Amazing journey, thanks for posting. Rick USA.
Great content!
Very beautiful city and natural scenery. The region looks quite developed, contrary to what many people still think that it is a wasteland. It was quite troubling to listen to the story about abductions, but I am glad you left that in to tell us the hidden costs Chechen people pay by conforming to expected appearance and ideology
Very interesting 👏
Greetings from Germany
I love your channel and the video, can I suggest you blur the face of the gentleman who gave you a ride and spoke about abductions? It could be pretty dangerous for him
Great info
Super interesting !
Awesome video.. You earned a new subscriber today!
Awesome adventure keep up the great action
Another fantastic watch, thanks Vagabond!
this is a great channel
amazing video
Amazing and beautiful!
I really learned a lot on this video. Much respect Vagabond
very interesting thanks!
Amazing
Always a good day when I see a new Vagabond video! This one was very interesting. I feel like us in the West hear about Chechnya, but don't see much from there. Looks like a gorgeous country.
Cool video!
Thank you for telling me more about the world
Wow that's lovely l didn't even know about it.
nice video. thanks
Just did a scroll through your old videos. Man, I didn’t know they pulled ALL of your train-hopping videos! That completely gutted the channel
Some cool architecture, nice watch
Man please, delete video and reupload version where you censure first driver and his car, things what he said can get him in big trouble.
very nice
This has been a real trip of discovery. Interesting to hear the taxi driver speak about the cruelty of police or mafia. But the mountains were the most beautiful.
Thank you.
Chose a Bounty. A man of culture and taste I see.
16:33 "hey, go run a check on all the people we brought in for questioning 5 times and who own a silver Škoda". I appreciate you showing the honesty of this man, but you should have tried more to hide his identity.
Thank you for showing that stonework and masonry of the guard towers. Impressive it was made without power tools and heavy machinery.
Excellent
i'll never get there myself so I find this video very interesting
It's a grey cloudy place almost all year, not just in this video. Thanks again for sharing your travel.
Да, местность очень влажная
Wow unknown territory for me! The food seemed delicious!
Vanya Vagabond, Accidental Investigative Journalist.
Really cool that the guy in the car (at 12:20) shared his story with a random stranger like that.
Super.
I think of Chechnya as a rather harsh and scary country. Thank you for showing us the country and people. The mountains and steep canyons are stunning. No wonder the Chechen people have been so isolated from the rest of the region.
We were isolated because of 'nice' countries nearby, that always destroyed our cities and villiages on the plain)) and we must live in the mountains
Thanks
Thanks for not being like other creepy filthy tourists who deliberately film women and try to talk to them. You actually was able to catch what is the life in Chechnya for us Chechens and for u as a tourist.
That u had not hidden the face and the car of the guy in the first upload that's really bad, if authorities find out he will be killed or tortured
if he tried to talk to them, he would be punished
hey man, miss u so much
i find this video super interesting as a romanian. also to that guys story for saying it i think he is very brave and respecteful.
You're a brave guide leading us through what is a difficult place in a world the West knows so little about.
Guard tower and watch tower are synonymous.
Be safe, peaceful soul!
Chechnya is so beautiful the old settlements so superior to the new ones and that last look out tower just perfect in every way I'd love to travel there...
Vaga Bond, you saved the best views for the last scene. I am glad that you had a most interesting journey!
