I had a rather extensive hemorrhoidectomy last year. My experience, gratefully, was quite different. I had some pain but it was controlled by frequent use of Tylenol. I never had to take an oxytocin. I did use stool softener and drank lots of water. The first bathroom experience was not nice but not overwhelming. My pain was almost all gone within a week. I went back to the surgeon after a couple of weeks. He was amazed at how well I had done. I assumed that my surgery was realitively minor-he pointed out that it was very extensive. He was amazed by my lack of pain and my level of tolerance. I write this because I feel that I am fortunate. Pain tolerance is specific to each individual. Those who have extreme pain are not whining, nor are they weak-just different. This video offers sound advice. This is a very good and accurate video.
I had surgery 1 week back, i cannot explained the pain of my first BM, i went through the hell but i am in less pain now feels like i am recovering well. I wish everyone speedy recovery who are going through this phase. Pain is inhumane no one deserve it.
Hey guys you know what I am very happy that I took such decision. Certainly there is that pain but after that my life is changed as the hemorrhoids is gone. Wishing you all speedy recovery
I'm so relieved to find this video! Everything I've seen says two to six weeks recovery. I'm at week eight and still struggling. I've been fortunate in that the pain hasn't been bad after the first few weeks, but it's just a really slow recovery. I'm retired so I have the time, but feeling unable to leave the house much of the time due to unpredictable bowels is getting really old! Thanks to those sharing even the hard stuff, it really does help. Now I feel thankful my situation isn't worse!
I suffered with huge bleeding hemorrhoids, cramping and a feeling of urgency for a year and a half after a prolonged episode of dysentery. By the time I eventually got the courage to get over my embarrassment and consult a surgeon, he said my case was the worse he had ever seen. I was booked in for a hysterectomy with a gynae and asked the Gastro surgeon to do the removal while I was under general anesthesia for the first surgery, which he did. I could not believe how easily I recovered after the haemorrhoidectomy, my surgeon was brilliant! As a nurse, twenty years later, I still refer patients to him. Please, if you are suffering this affliction, get the surgery. Ask around for a well recommended surgeon.
You had to do the surgery twice?! Holy lord.I had a Hemorrhoidectomy just over five weeks ago. Thankfully (especially after hearing your case) I was able to take pain medication. The one for inflammation was magic. I could take that and within 10 minutes actually feel comfortable lying down. Sadly, I could only take one pill every six hours and the effect only lasted for two hours. I had to plan my day around those two hour windows and you better believe I saved the last for sleeping. In terms of bowel movements, yeah. That was the scarriest part of the whole ordeal. Thankfully I didn't get the urge to go until day 3 of my recovery, but that's when the hardship began. I was so swollen from the surgery that I couldn't relieve myself for 10 whole days and every day after getting the urge to go got more and more uncomfortable. Thankfully my regular doctor knew what to say and told me what I was going through wasn't pain, but discomfort. What I needed to do was find the best place to relax and do something to get it off my mind. This surprisingly worked. Since I wasn't in any pain, I just calmed down and found things to do to keep me distracted. By day 10 when it started to turn into pain, the swelling had died down enough that I was able to finally pass on my own. It was painful and scary, but the relief afterwards was so calming that I felt like I had finally gotten through the worst of it. And sure enough, I did. Every day it got better from there. Here are my additional suggestions to add to AJWriting's suggestions for those who haven't gone through this surgery yet but plan to. 1. Prepare for massive bleeding. Incisions are made both inside and outside the rectum and it will continue bleeding for a long time. If you've got a bed, wear a thick absorption diaper so you don't stain it. If you're just going for a stroll, wear a pad. And don't worry about what genders these pads are made for. If it looks comfortable, get it! And do whatever you can to clean the area at least three times a day. When blood accumulates in that area, it will reek in no time. 2. Use an Ice bags that you can put ice inside instead of a pre-loaded ice bag (Either with liquid or gel). Bags you can refill with ice last longer and are quicker to refill. I recommend using crunched ice or small cubed ice since this will help the bag shape around the sensitive area. Use a thinner absorption pad or medical gause so the cold can get through.
I had this surgery and yes the pain is absolutely the worst I’ve ever experienced. I also had a complication and internal bleeding a few days afterwards which required a trip to the emergency room and a blood transfusion, overall the whole experience was awful to put it mildly. However I’ve fully recovered and my quality of life has vastly improved, so I begrudgingly have to say that it was worth it.
I'm not a doctor but I have had this surgery, and you should strongly re consider. Overall, you want better quality of life. The "pain, discomfort" is only temporary.
Not wanting to go through this hellish nightmare, I attacked a recent bad flareup that was a horribly itchy, painful, burning mess. Prep H worked but limited in effectiveness and did not really improve the hemmies. What are hemmies?, I said to myself. They are swollen tissues. How do we deal with swelling? ICE!! I sat on a gel ice pack every evening while at the computer and kept simple hydrocortisone cream on my starfish regularly. The ice was a BLESSING. Not only does it shrink the tissues, it NUMBS the pain AND body weight pushes them back up! Try it folks, seriously. Kept me from going under the scalpel and feeling really good now. Oh and LOTS of fiber and water and you'll be flowing nicely.
The sensitive tissues don't become like new again, I agree. But, I'm am still doing great, no pain, no swelling, very little bit of tenderness while wiping only so I'm being much more gentle there from now on. Focus on keeping fiber intake up, lots of water and using Pranicura cream daily. (It is wonderful stuff!) Been doing VERY well. This can be managed without getting cut on for many people. My ice treatment worked great for me.@@ryanblanchard2508

It’s been six months since my surgery I’m still in pain when I pass stool … doctors don’t tell you the truth in the beginning how long this recovery is ….. every time I called my surgeon and complain and he told me to give it another month I stopped calling him … I am so angry at him 😮
I'm so sorry! I got the same treatment from my surgeon's office. Every time, they said the pain would improve in another week. It was and is extraordinarily frustrating!
Its sad that in 2024 there is no operation that has far less pain. Also its a joke that after this operation they only keep you in hospital for 24 hours and send you home. You should be in hospital for a week. I am looking at HAL-RAR THD. It has less pain but high recovery rate
That operation is some s*** literally it should be called pain in the ass or Gates of hell not hemorrhoidectomy by far the worst experience of my life and pain levels....haveing a little ass reconstruction would definitely make a man humble and cry and honestly it actually got me closer to God couldn't have done it without prayers😢 this is the worst
Its 20-04-2024 I am 4 day post op. I can't describe the pain in words which i felt on my first day. Although after bandage removal the pain become less. After 4 days the condition of pain is 8/10.yet i am using strong painkillers😢
I have two grade 4 haems and 5 smaller ones- i spend every night itching them till my fingers are covered in blood . Its been that way for years. I want the surgery but this pain looks terrible!!!
Check out sosoak soaking chair. Its chair thats connected to shower and is way better than bath tub or toilet hats. Its like a chair that fills with water just sit and relax without the trouble of filling a toilet hat or a bathtub. Control temp too and has spill drain plug to drain into tub or shower.
Have you done it yet? If not, find out these things. 1. Can you tolerate pain medication? If you don't know, find out. This will be crucial to your recovery process. If you can tolerate pain medication, the experience will be much better than AJ's. 2. How often do you need to go #2? AJWriting seems to be unique in that he has to go a lot. I didn't develop the urge to go until day 3 where as he had to go that very night after surgery. I was unable to go for 10 whole days. What helped me was that what I was feeling wasn't pain, but discomfort. That is a lot easier to work around than pain since you can distract yourself with other things.
What needs to be talked about is the pelvic floor issues that can arise from the trauma in the lower region. I have gone through 2 hemorrhoidectomy’s and a laser hemorrhoid surgery with a skin tag removal and the pelvic floor dysfunction I have now is brutal. All my muscles are stuck in a tense state.
And On the 14th Day I heard the voice of God and I felt the Gospel of Pain that is written in no book nor preached by any priest carved into my living flesh with a finger of pure Fire
I am 4 days into 3 grade 4 hemorrhoid removals.. I have slept a whole 5 hours in 4 days.. the pain is so unbearable I would honestly rather not be here anymore.. not that I would ever do anything stupid. Had to quit taking pain meds 2 days ago as I was so constipated it was making my insides throb.. I would never ever ever do this again. Its getting really annoying have to swet it the hot bath for 21 of the 24 hours a day. I have lost 9 pounds on 4 days
Day 15 for me. I’ve had 3 children also. 1 of my 3 hemorrhoids was thrombosed. I had no choice. That happened suddenly and it took months to get through the medical system to a surgeon. If you need it done, do it. My pain is less than the hemorrhoid now. The first week after surgery is not for the faint of heart. Use the meds and warm bath water often. You can get through it.

Yes, it is worse than childbirth but if your quality of life is affected, you need the surgery. Choose a time when you have help for the first few days & stick to post surgery instructions. I'm a month post op. & I'm suffering for about 5 hours after bowel movements. It's a slow process to recovery but I was literally in agony before surgery so I had no choice.
4 wks after surgery and I'm still in horrible torchous pain 8 to 15 hrs nearly everyday after a bowel movement . I'm not understanding why it isn't getting better. Soft stool diarrhea stool looks like a sand pile zero control then my urine is hot hot like fire then gradually cooling down. I'm about ready to put a bullet in my head I'm so tired of struggling with IBS. I've had both rotator surgery 2 c-sections upper/lower fusions... I never imagined anything worse than those rotator surgery. This is so painful it has literally shaking my core hot cold didn't know you got goosebumps from being hot literally not feeling human at all. 4wks I should be feeling better ???
3 days after surgery I had a few mini strokes spent 5 days on the cardiac unit when a doc came in with 2 other ppl and asked to see my butt I rolled over and heard one gasp another asked if they could take a picture I said sure if you send me a copy. OMG it's so bad it doesn't look like a butt I swear it looks like one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen and feels like a gernade exploded. I've seen a lot in my 60yrs of life and this is #3.
I’m on day 6 and the packing passed yesterday I didn’t know that you could grip a slick wall . I’m going to an explosion of pain and spasms 8/9/2024 this story is so true !!😢
If i might ask considering you had two hemorrhoidectomies, was the second one for a different set of veins? It seems that once you have a hemorrhoidectomy, you're unlikely to ever experience it again sincs its a literally removal of the veins... unless its a different set right?
Makes sense, watching them melt away within 48 hours felt so good, and yep, I used what I mentioned the other day. It did take a bit more to make them totally disappear, I just go’ogled Melissa Thanderski and followed her simple advice.
My question is: why are people having the surgery? I have one that doesn’t bother me but I want to be pro active, and not wait till there is a problem 😢
Why are people having this surgery? Good question. Let me tell some reasons... 1. Internal hemorrhoids have 4 stages. 1 st and 2nd stage don’t bother you. 3rd stage your hemorrhoids get bigger, your hemorrhoids don’t go back in after BM, so you have to push it back manually. Even after push it back manually, you feel constant discomforts that highly affect your daily life, and your toilet times getting more more scary day by day. When it’s at 4th stage your hemorrhoids now reached its maximum and it’s totally out of your an$s. It doesn’t go back even you tried to push it back manually. Which means now your hemorrhoids hang in of your rectum mouth like balloons are hanging in a Christmas tree. Now you have only two options left; either you have to live rest of your life with hanging hemorrhoids in your rect or remove it from a surgery to live up a quality life. At 4th stage, majority experience terrible pain before and after BM , bleeding and their toilet times are scary. Most important highly possible to get infected since now your hemorrhoids are totally came out of your rectum 24/7. Your normal life is 💯 out of quality and your are just suffering every day, your daily activities are paused. When other people at your age, enjoying their life to the fullest; you are stuck in your life with hanging hemorrhoids. Can you suffer like that until you die? Can you even have intercourse with your partner with your hemorrhoids are out of your rectum? Can you use the bathroom peacefully like a normal human do? No you can’t The suffering is only known by a person who is having 3rd or 4th stage hemorrhoids. I have hemorrhoids and suffering too. So think.... will you suffer rest of your life and leading zero quality life or will you go under the most painful surgery and suffer for a short period and lead a super quality life like your friends are leading?? Decision is yours .
@@natalievandorz6474 agree 100%. good writing. Only people with grade 4 understand the hell and the decline of everything that involves in a normal life. Surgery is the only option here.
From what I can tell, most people recover within a month--though they also describe intense pain during this period. I was definitely an outlier when it came to recovery, probably because of my digestive issues and the severity of the problem (meaning the surgery was pretty extensive).

How are you now? I’m thinking of getting it done in the summer because I don’t work. Are you completely healed?
@@cynthiajameson5618 better actually, it was excruciating but the issues I was having seem to be resolved. But it was a very painful experience.
Me too!!! Worse than having a baby!!!

There is a laser option which is less painful
Its 20-04-2024
I am 4 day post op.
I can't describe the pain in words which i felt on my first day. Although after bandage removal the pain become less.
After 4 days the condition of pain is 8/10.yet i am using strong painkillers😢
How about your first bowel movement?
I have two grade 4 haems and 5 smaller ones- i spend every night itching them till my fingers are covered in blood . Its been that way for years. I want the surgery but this pain looks terrible!!!
Check out sosoak soaking chair. Its chair thats connected to shower and is way better than bath tub or toilet hats. Its like a chair that fills with water just sit and relax without the trouble of filling a toilet hat or a bathtub. Control temp too and has spill drain plug to drain into tub or shower.
My friend had this procedure and she described it as feeling like shards of glass up there. The drugs barely took the edge off.
Am so scared to undergo surgery
I’m booked for this surgery. I’m asking myself. Is it worth it?
Was it?
@@edsonjhairanaribasoliman293 I’m still on the waiting list 😂😩
Was it
Rip
had my stapling procedure 2 days ago. the pain is unbearable. cant even sleep.
Crazy same experience I had to surgery's it's benn only a month and I can mentally eat right......
It fucks with your mind huh
And On the 14th Day I heard the voice of God and I felt the Gospel of Pain that is written in no book nor preached by any priest carved into my living flesh with a finger of pure Fire
lol. How are you now?
I am 4 days into 3 grade 4 hemorrhoid removals.. I have slept a whole 5 hours in 4 days.. the pain is so unbearable I would honestly rather not be here anymore.. not that I would ever do anything stupid. Had to quit taking pain meds 2 days ago as I was so constipated it was making my insides throb.. I would never ever ever do this again. Its getting really annoying have to swet it the hot bath for 21 of the 24 hours a day. I have lost 9 pounds on 4 days
what about a clear liquid diet??
Calling all women who have had this surgery. Is it worse than childbirth?
I’ve had 3 babies.
Induced all 3 times.
How does it compare?
Day 15 for me. I’ve had 3 children also. 1 of my 3 hemorrhoids was thrombosed. I had no choice. That happened suddenly and it took months to get through the medical system to a surgeon. If you need it done, do it. My pain is less than the hemorrhoid now. The first week after surgery is not for the faint of heart. Use the meds and warm bath water often. You can get through it.
@@LynnConway-s4ccan u still control your poop?im a female with 2 kids and its my 5 days now.what makes me worry if i go out like do groceries and that scary of what others told that u can’t control it
Yes, it is worse than childbirth but if your quality of life is affected, you need the surgery.
Almost plays out like a creepy pasta.
Only DG+HAL+RAR returns everything like never existed and the next day you are home. There is no pain after procedure.
Watching while in day5 this is the worste pain
How about laser treatment?
I explored that option, but my case was already too severe. It seems like a good choice for less severe cases.
So true

If i might ask considering you had two hemorrhoidectomies, was the second one for a different set of veins? It seems that once you have a hemorrhoidectomy, you're unlikely to ever experience it again sincs its a literally removal of the veins... unless its a different set right?
After a year do you still feel pain
Bro this shit is brutal
So, do you advice us not to do the surgery?
You didn't take stool softeners?
There has gotta be a better way. Dayum. So sorry
Makes sense, watching them melt away within 48 hours felt so good, and yep, I used what I mentioned the other day. It did take a bit more to make them totally disappear, I just go’ogled Melissa Thanderski and followed her simple advice.
How can we melt them without surgery?
No you can’t
The suffering is only known by a person who is having 3rd or 4th stage hemorrhoids.
I have hemorrhoids and suffering too.
So think.... will you suffer rest of your life and leading zero quality life or will you go under the most painful surgery and suffer for a short period and lead a super quality life like your friends are leading??
Decision is yours .
Testimony is 100% that’s why
@alisacollette why are people having the surgery?! It’s because they’re writhing in pain and bleeding out of their ass. Does that clear it up? 🤡🤦♂️
@@natalievandorz6474 agree 100%. good writing. Only people with grade 4 understand the hell and the decline of everything that involves in a normal life. Surgery is the only option here.
The worst pain among All types of surgery. one month since surgery, oww the pain still hurts a lot
This was an insane ride. Is this level of pain typical?
From what I can tell, most people recover within a month--though they also describe intense pain during this period. I was definitely an outlier when it came to recovery, probably because of my digestive issues and the severity of the problem (meaning the surgery was pretty extensive).
@@ajwritingI think the surgeon is a huge factor in the result. I had the worst case my surgeon had seen at that time. He did a brilliant job. My pain was minimal and of short duration, literally a day or two.
I get mines in 7 days and my pain tolerance is very low and im reconsidering this.

It's very likely that it's from sex
