Hi Eric, great reaction. Totally agree with what you are saying about the band, Floor, her voice and her interaction with the audience! And having said that: there is another song/recording from After Forever from this same concert that is often combined with this one, and that you could call After Forever's Ghost Love Score: it is called "Dreamflight". In this song Floor does a great vocal solo, and also a lot of interaction with the audience. I think you will really enjoy that one too!
There's another one from this show that has a real nice chug going on and no male growl vocals ... it's called Energize me... she had burnout till she joined Nightwish and heard was kind of scared to go out on stage again but the guys in NW eased her mind and she took control of her mindset and did what she has done so far
After Forever started in 1995 and Floor joined them in 1997 when she was 16. I started listening to them in 2001 so I was a fan of her way before NW. They released 4 albums under the Dutch Transmission Records label. In 2006 they signed with Nuclear Blast but unfortunately only released one album under that label before disbanding in 2009 after a one-year hiatus. After that, she formed ReVamp but the combination of losing After Forever and trying to get ReVamp off the ground led to her burnout. Fortunately, she recovered from that in time for Tuomas' call asking her to come fill in for Annette on the US Nightwish tour in 2012. And the rest is history! 🤘🤘
I think that Floor's burn out was mostly due to her trying to do everything Revamp. While After Forever splitting up and the really bad end to her 7 year relationship with founder and guitarist Sander Gommans at the same time were devastating to her it's unclear how much if any of that contributed to her burnout. I think it drove her to make Revamp a success.
Eric, as always of course..........excellent! More After for ever; Energize me, Monilith of Doubt, Dreamflight. Real bangers. Give it a try pls..Greeting from Holland.
@@joelmaynard3897 I concur and i add Follow in the Cry from the same show ua-cam.com/video/BNZvf0aur8o/v-deo.html ...or anything from this concert, it was a blast!
Floor has always been a unique talent in every way. She already was then, and she still is now! Can't wait what the new album is going to bring... (it is going to be heavy, I heard)
Floors first band, Mark Jansen for Epica was with them until 2002 when he left to form Epica. Even at her young age Floor was still spectacular, you should watch some of the live stuff from earlier to see Floor as a skinny girl running a stage. Revamp is another Floor band from between After Forever and Nightwish where she is even more metal. It is great stuff.
You have already got to enjoy the work of 3 members of After Forever: - Floor Jansen (Nightwish and well... she is Floor Jansen) - Mark Jansen (Epica), although he left the band before this video (2002) - Joost van den Broek (on grand piano and co-producer in Ayreon, also producing for Epica, Kamelot and BlackBriar )
Much as I love and appreciate Nightwish, After Forever has to be my favorite of Floor's. Symphonic proto-Epica metal at the start, later more progressive, "modern rock" sound, as you described it. Leaner, punchier, melodic and lyrical as hell, great riffs - altogether very satisfying. Several front-to-back great albums, especially the last two - some of my all-time favorites are deep cuts. This song was the lead (?) single off their last, eponymous album and, arguably, they went out on top, a year or so later, after over a dozen years of figuring out the kind of band they wanted to be, getting there, then going "Im pretty tired. Think I'll go home now".
The decision to end the band was primarily driven by legal and financial issues that made it impossible for the band to support themselves through their music. Personal issues between at least two band members also contributed as well IMO.
Man....Floor had that stage presence even back then! I wish I knew of this band back in 2007! I, really liked this song....man...I can imagine them on stage before Metallica or Judas Priest!

AF had 5 studio albums: Prison of Desire (2000) Decipher (2001) Invisible Circles (2004) Remagine (2005) After Forever (2007) SO, "AF": After Forever was a Dutch symphonic metal band with strong progressive metal influences. The band relied on the use of both soprano vocals and death growls. AF was originally assembled in 1995, under the name Apocalypse. They were originally a death metal cover band with harsh male vocals. With the joining of vocalist Floor Jansen in 1997, their style and sound shifted towards symphonic gothic metal, in order to give emphasis to her soprano voice, in contrast with the grunts and screams provided by Sander Gommans and Mark Jansen. Their line-up at this point comprised Floor Jansen, Mark Jansen (no relation to Floor, and he is the founding member of EPICA), Sander Gommans, Luuk van Gerven, Jack Driessen and Joep Beckers. Soon, the band began composing their own songs, and then they changed their name to After Forever, after the Black Sabbath song. In 1999, the band recorded two demos entitled Ephemeral and Wings of Illusion, which drew the attention of the Dutch Transmission Records label, with whom the band signed a contract. In February 2009, it was announced that After Forever had disbanded. Singer Floor Jansen and keyboardist Joost van den Broek (he joined AF in 2004) both collaborated again in ReVamp and Star One, before Jansen eventually joined Nightwish as lead singer On 9 October 2013. After Forever discord lyrics
You need to get out of my sight
A lonely heart can beat
You're too dangerous
A lonely heart can bleed
I cannot stand it, to be enclosed and isolated
A lonely heart can be enclosed but isolated
You're too much
A lonely heart is weak
Too dependent
A broken heart will seek
You take the life out of me
No heart is broken forever
It's broken promises
But my faith is broken forever
Can't you believe that this power we feel can be for real?
The power that was given light now seems to freeze but why?
A lonely heart will break
Pressure will make me forsake you
A lonely heart won't forsake me
As if we're both the same
Wounded and beaten but still not defeated
A lonely heart can be wounded and beaten but still not defeated
'Cause I won't let you in
So if it's all for real
Your weakness will be my strength
Your heart should be melting
You might be lonely
But I am not beloved and bounded forever
Because we're all the same
Beloved and bounded forever
Can't you believe that this power we feel can be for real?
The smile that was given light now seems to freeze but why?
Won't you believe?
Won't you embrace it?
Can't you believe
The power between us?
Oh, discord, see them fail, oh
Won't you believe?
Won't you embrace it?
Can't you believe in the power between us?
Can't you believe that this power we feel can be for real?
The power that was given light now seems to freeze but why?
