The plastic "gears" in the headlight motors 90% never fail. There are 3 small plastic pucks inside the gears that breakdown and fail. I just replaced mine on my 96 cost $10 for 6 pucks (3 each side)and 1 and a half hours total. Easy job. Also the steering wheel shakes because there are pins in the tilt portion of the steering column that are weak, the previous owner totally used the steering wheel to get out of his car...NEVER do this as you can see what happens with your steering wheel.
the steering wheel problem happens when getting in and out of the car and putting pressure on the wheel, if you learn how to get in and out without pulling/pushing on the wheel it’s not a problem
My first car back in 2016 was a 1987 Coupe. It didn't run and the clear coat had completely come up. It was only $2,300. Bad fuel pump. I've since got it painted and put almost 40,000 miles on it. I liked it so much that after graduating university, I got a 1991 ZR-1. These are older cars and of course they will have their problems, especially the lower-quality 80s and 90s GM interiors that you have to baby a bit. Thankfully with the L98 I never had to deal with the Optispark. In general these cars are solid and relatively easy to work on. As you said, never take a vette through an automatic wash, I learned that the hard way my first time lol. Enjoy the awesome ride!
The optispark Era suck . I have a 90 and love it. It is one of the best cars I've ever had . If well maintained, these cars will last a long time. And NEVER put anything less than 91 to 93 octane fuel in them they don't like the cheap shit. I put 93 in mine and she loves it. These cars are an American classic and want to be driven. Take good care of yours and you'll have it for another 30 years. Thanks for sharing.
So you can replace the opti spark with a torq head system which cost about 2,500.00 but it eliminates the optispark with individual coils per cylinder. I haven’t done it to mine yet I installed a new opti last year but I do think I will go with the torq head upgrade soon!
Got that right brother, I told myself if I am going to keep my 94 vette with 101k miles till the tires fall off and replacing the opti for the 2nd time. So I converted to torqhead last yr and I am so happy I did. No more worries about being left on the road due to the opti.
That targa top will be hotter than hot if you let the car sit in the sun. One of the hottest interiors I've even known... and I've owned a couple dozen cars going back a couple three four decades. The steering wheel gets screwed if you use it to lever yourself out of the car. You sit down down down deep inside the car. I have trouble getting in an I only have a 36" waist.... not skinny but not that fat yet. I got caught in a massive downpour... 30 minutes that produced flooding and closed side roads. Had to slow to 30 mph and I let the car idle in my garage to dry it after. Wipers are horrible for any amount of rain... they look cool but work for sh**. Cover for the back end does not work as the oem latches are garbage... after market out there. 38 fits perfectly in the door pocket but does not come out well... tight fit. They run hotter than hot... 230 degrees before the fans come on. Running the a/c turns the fans on and I get 210 degrees in a drivethru on a 90 degree day. My ASR makes the car act strange so I turn it off... probably needs new wheel sensors. 142 Lo means your digital coolant sensor is shot ($35 part). If the computer shuts the engine down hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor to trigger limp mode. 17.8 mpg mostly highway with some town and a couple full throttle passes. Uses synthetic oil because of a 2 stage oil pump and the high heat normal to the engine. Premium gas... that is 10.5 to 1 compression. Umm... why yes I drive one daily. Passing two semi trucks on a two lane highway will get you into the 3 digit area of the speedo. Careful with the gas pedal when leaving a stop sign or you get a loud squealing sounds from the tires.
YOU MUST know....DONT BUY A C4 no matter how red neck the seller is. The worst condition C5 is way better than the best C4. Unless you listen to motley crew or other g@y 80s bands. Or if you have long hair and are older than 50. Yea see my point?

glad to see someone else who loves both the New Edge/SN95 Mustangs AND C4 Vettes. I own a '94 coupe

getting in and out of the Vette is super simple if you're active and already do core workouts

I miss my 94 6 speed, I plan on buying another one soon.
No those arent the headlight motors gears breaking, they are fine most of the time.

id just save the trouble and go with Petris Enterprise's Opti kit
Gotta love the opti. Can’t wait to just 24x my car and get rid of that thing.
