I think another point that might've gone unsaid, but is definitely related to the whole benefits of a laptop vs all-in-one desktop conversation is that there are a lot of people who don't benefit from the portability of a laptop, or don't WANT to benefit from it. In addition to the other great things mentioned about the iMac (screen, camera, speakers), a reality that I think has been lost on a lot of people is that some just aren't interested in the idea of being connected everywhere they go. Having a device that is intended to stay in one area is precisely the point for some people, because it means that they can leave whatever work they had at the desk, and move on to other things when they leave that area. The portability of laptops provides freedom, sure, but it also creates the added constraint of never truly leaving your work if it follows you everywhere you go.

When I saw this iMac being revealed it brought the same feeling I got when I saw the G5 unveiled, I think it’s stunning, as for the colour, it’s that weird thing where any colour would leave me happy, there’s not one that is like ummm no, even the yellow you showed here or the orange which when mentioned to people that haven’t seen it go ummm no, are actually gorgeous.
I found your channel totally by accident when searching for iMac (to check out all the colors in different rooms and lighting), and am extremely impressed by the content quality. Just subscribed.
Not to mention that the space that the computer takes up is really that of the stand on the desk, which wouldn't change size with a 10mm thicker computer.
@@Col_Crunch Ehhh, the stand is so thin and flat, I wouldn't worry about that size. I mean, I also don't think I'd worry about an extra few mm off thickness either, these things are ridiculously thin as-is, but it does give some charm and the user gets to see what color their computer is. It's one of the complaints of smartphone design, you'll only be able to appreciate the color when not using it and Apple changed it up here.
@@johnbuscher "Ehhh, the stand is so thin and flat, I wouldn't worry about that size." Thats exactly my point. Making the computer thicker and batting rid of the chin would not waste any space, cause the stand (the thing that actually takes up space) would not change in size. I also don't agree that about the user being able to see the color. The stand is color matched, so you would still get that... and you wouldn't have an ugly (imo... I really hate pastels) pastel version of the color staring at you all the time.
3:10 I feel like what he fails to mention is that thickness of a computer does not affect the "wasting" of space on a desk. The main thing that affects how much space a computer/monitor takes on a desk (in my experience), is a stand, as one which takes a larger space will result in less desk space. However, the thickness of the display does not matter as it is above the desk, meaning you can still fit your phone, paperwork etc. under the display, even if it would be 3 cm thicker (if the imac got rid of the chin it would still not amount to 3cm of thickness...).
I would love a comparison between the new iMac vs the new Mac mini (w/ chosen monitor and peripherals), and see if the price difference justifies purchasing the iMac.
Given the costs of the apple keyboard and mouse and especially a 4K-monitor that good, I would say it’s a good deal. And you do not have to buy speakers or a webcam
If you already have a monitor and peripherals you're happy with (many people do), Mac mini is great. If you don't (or want all-in-one simplicity), iMac is great. My main issue with iMac is when it comes time to upgrade you're getting rid of a perfectly good monitor. I know at work it stings when I send a 5K iMac off for surplus, those monitors are still beautiful.
Based on how Mac Address's been going, my thought is that chances are pretty low. Macs are quite popular yet this channel hasn't taken off (to this day).
@@Leos74 that's cause most of his viewers are ltt viewers and generally not hard core mac audiences Linus should advertise this channel on UA-cam for it to pickup.. else it'll always be in ltt shadow
I totally agree, it is not saving any space per se because essentially the space are already taken up when you need to have a stand. Which is why I think increasing the thickness and just getting rid of the huge chin is logical.
wow, that's a badass case. but like, Lian Li probably sold a few thousand of those, Apple's probably gonna sell millions of these. Dell, HP, etc, those are the brands that set what PCs look like to most people.
True your right I wasn't thinking I think I just get frustrated when apple gets praise for things that other people already did. I mean they have pioneered a lot of things they don't need praise for everything lol but again I'm probably just salty
@@thejohnathan491 Apple keeps in mind that whatever they make, they have to make a ton of. They're successful not at doing things the absolute first, but at doing them the best and at scale. "Real artists ship" has been one of their mantras since the original Macintosh days. They don't care about showing off things they can do in a lab, they care about selling you things you can do in your home. So, sure, other companies will ship unapologetic early betas that can't support real workloads, Apple will take a little longer to do it better and for everyone.
@@modulusshift not disagreeing you are right but I will say apple is better at branding than anything I work as apple support trust me there are so many issues they have when they launch products that never come out. This colour definitely grow on Me, after watching this video. I had my eyes set on Orange at first but now the yellow is going pretty good. This video is weirdly relaxing to watch. i really enjoy it. i love the background music you are using. it's very fitting. good job.
The yellow model is not one of the better-selling colors, but I'm more partial to it than the other colors. Glad to see it used in this video!
Black bezels would have looked amazing with the yellow though.
Today is june 7th, just want to leave a note here: I will watch this video again on this iMac.
“Not making it thicker, wasting space” how would you “waste space” by making it 10mm thicker and getting rid of the bottom chin?
Yea I'd take a few more millimeters in exchange for losing the chin
Not to mention that the space that the computer takes up is really that of the stand on the desk, which wouldn't change size with a 10mm thicker computer.
Why would you want an iMac to just look like a monitor? The bottom bezel is what makes it look like an iMac
@@johnbuscher "Ehhh, the stand is so thin and flat, I wouldn't worry about that size."
Thats exactly my point.
My 2 month old started talking to the tv once you came on! She continuened until the video was over.
Finally someone that agrees with my opinions on the iMac, such a good video good job my guy 👏
This channel is so satisfying for Apple nerds like me lol thanks guys!
The lighting in this video is so calming 😌
I would love a comparison between the new iMac vs the new Mac mini (w/ chosen monitor and peripherals), and see if the price difference justifies purchasing the iMac.
Given the costs of the apple keyboard and mouse and especially a 4K-monitor that good, I would say it’s a good deal. And you do not have to buy speakers or a
webcam
@@hagaman2 Indeed. iMacs have always been a pretty good value for the display alone, especially since the Retina designs.
Cost wise I rather spec out the mac mini (only like $1029) and use the monitors I have but if cost wasn't a factor then the imac lol
I am really impressed that they flew all the way to Poland to shoot this in a typical Polish home.
Gonna keep up the tradition to ask for a Linux channel, or at least content. :D
Based on how Mac Address's been going, my thought is that chances are pretty low. Macs are quite popular yet this channel hasn't taken off (to this day).
@@Leos74 that's cause most of his viewers are ltt viewers and generally not hard core mac audiences
Linus should advertise this channel on UA-cam for it to pickup.. else it'll always be in ltt shadow
I watch this video with Blackberry Gemini✌️
I do love the imac, but I don't understand getting it over a mac mini with a 28" 4k monitor, 24" is just absolutely tiny for any multitasking.
and that's why you can do exactly just that. buying a mac mini and a 28" 4k monitor. it's called having options
What if you don't have the space for a 28" monitor but you do for a 24"? That's also the entire computer? That's why we have options.
Because imac is an all in one. Just plug the power and off you go
All the way back to the first Mac, the default if an all in one. However tiny the screen. Ease of use has always mattered.
I wish it came in a 27” model (doesn’t even need to be a Pro).
3:06 woah woah woah. What space is “saved” by the iMac being thinner?
Well by not making it bulkier than it needs to be. That way you keep the chin and make it still look like an iconic mac instead of just a monitor
Space in the users head
It was so hard for me to choose between the yellow and orange color but I decided to go with the orange.
Does the slimness save any space tho? With the stand, it all becomes redundant. However, I agree it looks nice!
I totally agree, it is not saving any space per se because essentially the space are already taken up when you need to have a stand.
Which is why I think increasing the thickness and just getting rid of the huge chin is logical.
Ive never seen a computer color match the person and scenery so well in my life
"different than anything you find on PC's these days" 🤨 me looking at my yellow 011 dynamic
wow, that's a badass case. but like, Lian Li probably sold a few thousand of those, Apple's probably gonna sell millions of these.
Again though I may just be salty I get frustrated with apple because they could be an actual innovator that does so much good but that just doesn't seem to be the apple they are anymore
@@thejohnathan491 heh, and I worked for a while at a third party repair shop that focused on Apple products, trust me I know there's been some stinkers. I can't say anybody else is doing better though. Apple will sort itself out in the long term, probably, or hey, maybe it won't. It's made up of people after all. They have dreams, they get tired, they can be experts and visionaries, or they can get dragged down in the drudgery and lose sight of what's good. What will be, will be.
Just bought the blue one with the top specs. I'm quite excited I have to say. Never used an Apple computer before.
So 80% of the review is about how the thing looks.
Good to know some things never change lmao.
Because we all know the power of the M1.
Is this the new LTT Mac channel? Wow..it’s awesome. Much more grown up and appealing to me!
