- I spent hours researching tail racks for my newly acquired Aprilia Tuareg 660. My research kept bringing me back to the Perun Moto tail rack because of the its mounting design, profile and ability to install many items on it. I reached out to Perun Moto and we partnered up to bring you this video. I discuss all the reasons this is the best tail rack for the Tuareg 660 as well give you some tips on the installation.
Hi Matt. Well it's not but OK - for me one from Motea is but it may not be available in US. Stay safe and happy riding
@@gregs7194 the Motea rack was not available when I was looking. I really like their products.
That is not the only one with five mounting points. AXP Racing mounts and fits the same.
Good to know. I saw that, but AXP was out of stock everywhere. I found it first but couldn't get it. Then found the Perun, thankfully. Cheers.
Are any of the pre-drilled holes specifically spaced for RotoPax pack mounts?
No, there are no rotopax mount holes. You can drill your own.
On their website at least for the tenere 700 it says it is RotoPax compatible
@@jbstrongman it might be for the T7 but I didn't see mounting holes for the T660.
I'm currently using the AXP rear rack which is super light and narrow. Made of their high strength plastic. It's really nice. But I have to use a GIVI adapter plate for my Monokey bags and boxes. I like the way the Perun Moto rack solves this. I'm ordering one. Thanks!
I wanted the AXP before I found the Perun rear rack. Hopenit works as well for you as it does for me. Cheers.
Great video, just want to mention that Touratech rear rack uses the same 5 mounting locations.
Yeah, I saw a few but the profile was high or it didn't have many lashing points. Thanks for commenting.
I am a very big fan of the handled down tie down point. On my 790 this allows me to have an Orange box bolted on, and still use the tie downs. - Frank
Me too. Options, options, options.
I went with the SW Motech rear rack on my tuareg. It uses 5 bolts, nice low profile, adds grab handles for picking the bike up, and is extremely stout. The perun top plate has more cut outs than the SW Motech.
The SW Motech rear rack is pretty good too. The lift handles are helpful. I have thought about creating some nylon straps as handles for lifting.
@@advmatt I also have the SW Motech skid plate which I think is the best for the tuareg and clears aftermarket exhaust headers. I have the SW Motech Pro pannier racks which work very well and the quick release feature is nice. I have the heed crash bars which have nice coverage and added highway pegs to the crash bars and crash bar bags to put my tools in to get some weight up front.
I like the SW Motech (one of the few options when I bought my bike). I do wish it was completely flat. It works fairly well with various rackless setups that have 3 rear straps (many racks only have two slots rearward).
@@williamb.6918 yes I forgot to mention the "3 rear straps" part on the SW Motech rack, 3 slots for rackless luggage straps. Hardly any manufacturers do that...
I got a Perun Moto rack for my Norden 901. Excellent! 👍
Nice!
Had one on my 901 (sold) and I put one on my Tuareg also. Great video!
Thanks. Great tail rack.
I like to at least have the option to rig both directions and racks that do not allow that (quite common) drive me nuts. The Perun racks always give me lots of rigging options which I love.
So many options. These are well thought out.
Have the same rack on my T7 with a permanently mounted Harbor Freight 2800 hard case. It is a great rack with lots of lashing points (i use Rok straps). The T7 mount will bend down and touch the tail eventually. If you are strictly street, it should be good. Put any weight in a hard case and ride bumpy offroad...it will eventually bend down or crack. I knew this when i bought it so it doesnt bother me. But 1 year in and it is definitely getting closer to the tail of my bike.
Good to know. I will keep an eye on this. Thanks.
Hi there! Glad you like your T700 rack and thanks for the comment! As we always try to perfect our products, we upgraded the T700 side supports from 4 mm to 5 mm stainless, some time ago. You probably have the 4 mm ones. This improvement should further increase the strength of that rack. Of course, under heavy load and on the really bumpy terrain, it still can flex a tiny bit, especially if solid box is mounted and loaded. Good thing is we always use stainless steel for our side supports, so they shouldn't crack easily, even if the bend a little.
On a side note, no way this can happen with Tuareg rack, as it has additional mounting point in the middle. Bike provided that and we used it.
Hows the tuareg after some seat time vs 390?
It's a much more comfortable ride and really rips. It's a ton a fun. The 390 Adv is much different ride. I am planning to install cruise control which should really help the 390 Adv be a better long distance ride.
@@advmatt I have a 390 and have considered that change. Partly comfort offroad, but also ergonomics as I'm 6ft and the 390 is a little tight even with risers
@@johnc7753 the tuareg fits me really well at 5'10". You will have much more room on the bike. My 390 has lower pegs and a taller seat which created more room if you want to try a few more things.
@@advmatt same, although the taller seat lowered the bars. Was look at the fork extenders next :)
Did you sell the T 7?
Not yet. I want to do some comparisons between bikes before letting it go.
@advmatt I have been thinking of buying one, I found a really good deal on a 23 model, and I have the same feeling that you explained in this video with a bike I have, ktm 1190 adventure R. I don't enjoy riding that bike off road for the fact that it is way too tall for me. The problem is I am financing the bike, and they offer me almost 3k less that.what I owe
@@csiautodetail trading bikes to a dealership never goes well. Maybe try selling the 1190 yourself. Inhave seen T7s around dealerships now. Shouldn't be too hard to find one when you are ready. $3k is a big difference. Good luck figuring things out.
@advmatt I am talking about aprilia tuareg , I found an awesome deal.
@@csiautodetail buy it!
