This song here is surface level stuff for Aes - like you said, he's got the prowess but he's having fun. If you continue this journey and go back in time, you'll see how complex he can get and how he makes you think all the while keeping you interested in what he's saying over some dope ass beats. This man is the GOAT for sure, easy. I can't wait for the next live stream 😅
You mentioned “I wonder if this guy can paint.” Well… he’s got a song about that. Give his song “rings” a listen. If you haven’t already, it’s a lot more straightforward than most his stuff.
He does paint (or used to paint, lol). If you wanna see his stuff you can check out the video for Rogue Wave, though it's just people pencil drawings, nothing out there. I'm really curious what imaginary shit he'd paint, since he can paint such masterpieces with just his words.
@7:20 why it's called cat food... his cat kirby savin his life BUT in general cats are folks & he be feeding us & not just providing food but also stocking shelves w/ other stuff we be seeking AKA 'black hole to casually collapse thru' is right alongside the cat food.. DIG UR TAKE ON BARS MEANINGS. LOVE THAT U EMBRACE ART THAT MAKES U WONDER! I think the title to every track he does ends up as lyric in the song
aes origianlly was going to school for art, actively draws. Has a song about painting. He is an artist in the truest meaning for sure. every song he has, gets better with every replay
@4:05 dig ur take/interpretation of what he's saying! Loved ur thots on him being in the dark vs folks who find daylight alluring. Totally true to what he was saying BUT, he was also shoutin out to his songs Daylight & Nightlight. Daylight was bouyant & bright while Nightlight is grimy rage. there's similar bars thru out em but WAYYY DIFF mindsets DAYLIGHT-"it's honor, & I spell it with the 'H' I stole from heritage"...'i'll hang my boots to rest when i'm impressed so i triple knot em & forgot em' NIGHTLIGHT-"it's Gutter, & I spell it with the 'G' I stole from "Get the fuck up!"...'Ima lay my kicks to rest when im impressed so i staple-gun em to my feet'
ay, about that, did you know dodge and burn are 2 Photoshop tools? Dodge makes colors lighter and burn makes them...well burnt. darker. As a self-employed graphic designer, I usually sleep during the day and work in photoshop at night. I have no idea if that's _one_ of his meanings, but as a visual artist himself, I think I'm on to something.
Hell yeah bro. There are so many albums of absolute fire I couldn't even give you just one recommendation.. A few of my personal favorites though are Catacomb Kids, 39 Theives, Oxygen, Kodokushi, A gun for the whole family, big bang, cycles to gehenna. Just off the top of my head. Looking forward to your None Shall Pass video. That one is tough..
i'm only 0:44 sec in2 ur reation & i just jumped up, clapped my hands crazily & LITERALLY did a happy dance!! oh this gonna b fun. gonna pause, puff & prepare 4 when u hear bar that aes drops the title in.. 'lookin for a black hole to casualy collapse thru. try aisle 9 by the cat food'
This is one of Aes's harder to understand tracks. I see comments about it being surface level stuff but this is one of his crossroads tracks that a dozen other songs collect in. That's how aes rocks. He's got a lot of moods / personalities that he brings to different songs and in Cat food and Bug zapper he's demonstrating the two sides he's wrestling with as he tries to go about a day.
& SINCE U ASKED IF HE PAINTS, UR GONNA HAVE FOLKS mentioning 'RINGS', where he says, he "Drank Kool-Aid from a tube of acrylic" & "'You can't imagine the rush that ensue when you get 3 dimensions stuffed into 2..." (2 dimensional surfaces AKA paper, canvas, '3D letters for the dead up on the highway overpass') BUT RINGS ISN'T EVEN IN MY TOP 100 FAVE AES TRACKS. His recent vid for "Smartest People I Know' is all his own drawing of himself rapping & drawing
I take it you _don't_ draw. Rings is a certified banger, and it serves a great purpose - making Aes more accessible to new listeners, since he's on a single straight-forward subject the entire song.
@@durere way true on accessibility. Rings is good it's just a competitive league, when choosing top 100 list of aes faves! i tried to be an artist, but exact lines are DIFFICULT. I had 2 accept that i'm an activist, special skill as a catalyst! i cre8 sparks of action in others, but that's why aes's early stuff pre-none shall pass, is scripture to my soul. aes's early lyrics had eager activism painted all over em AKA tattooed on forearms, 'MUST NOT SLEEP MUST WARN OTHERS', THEN, COFFEE came out & has line, 'just gonna lie to em all, lie in a morgue hiding & bored" & it crushed me. i knew we had failed him. he had given us all this deep beauty & the collective we got uglier & accepted ugliness as entertainment. Say I saved the rainforest, the pandas still wouldn't be fukn. Now I just ''walk thy fence like a deer in headlights through a fisheye lens'' and enjoy the show. Lines are easier than you think, you just have to exercise the hand, then they become second nature. What's harder is accepting a near-exact line as good enough and going to the next one. You know what's funny to me about Aesop's music? It's all about death, decay and demons, and he presents himself as an antisocial hopeless douchebag, yet I haven't seen another artist get showered with so many ''omg this guy saved my life'' comments. I'm sure there's others out there that get these praises, but I wouldn't know, I only listen to this sht. I'm spoiled, most other rappers sound like detergent commercials to me. This is the guy you wanna take with you when you let the goat eat the map.
The daylight line might also be a reference to his most recognized record - called Daylight. Check that one out and you'll def be hooked. Thanks for the cool reactions! /New subscriber
@@thejavilobby I HIGHLY suggest doing Daylight/Nightlight in one go! There's a video out there that has both songs and after you listen to them, you'll see why it's best to do both in one sitting.
4:05 This is either an odd coincidence, or he's making a photoshop reference with that one - dodge and burn are 2 tools you use to enhance contrast in images in photoshop. Not saying that's all he's saying, nobody _really_ knows what Aesop is on about 80% of the time. Sometimes, not even him.
Lol, I haven't used PS since a free demo I got with a PC World mag, so... early 90's. I still just use MSPaint to mash pics. One of those things he totally would have written down first time they saw it, and totally forget the origin after time using it as his own. His recollections of the Appleseed rerelease were equally frustrating and genuine, "I don't know what I meant, then". When words themselves become mutating meanings over a life.
So dodge and burn are photoshop tools because they are methods used to change exposure when developing a photograph. This is 100% a reference to doing film photography.
@@nohomoSapiens Thanks for enlightening me. Dodging me, as it were. However, even if your theory seems to hold the most water of the bunch, I must advise against taking the ''this is 100% what he meant'' route with Aesop Rock.
