A difference of more than 200 mV between cells is really huge for a brand new battery with active balancing! it indicates that the cells are not matched and probably not Grade A but something recected in production. Although for nearly 500 bucks for little more than 1 kWh its not even near cheap. The weakest cell draws the whole battery down. But luckily you could get out your 100 Ah. The bluetooth app looks great though. Thanks for sharing!

Without propper and complete top balancing, it is very hard to tell if these cells are matched or not. Even then, one would need access to the terminals of each cell to test the internal resistance once all cells are top balanced to within 0.001v of each other. We would then have to capacity check each cell one at a time to see how unmatched they really are since a difference in mv doesn't equate to an actual meaningful measurement. We also need to access and read the cell barcodes so we know what the original design capacity of the cells were. The fact that this battery is getting just above the full 100Ah that is is rated likely means it will still be able to eek out another 1 or maybe 2 ah once the regular balancer on the BMS has finally balanced the entire pack which could take several cycles since this BMS does not appear to use an active balancer and it only seems to balance while charging.
No matter how well-matched your cells are in any pack you will always have a weak cell and a strong cell in the string but it is all about actual capacity. At about 1.28 KWh these batteries are not the least expensive option but with all the US sanctions on Chinese imports I am kinda surprised the entire battery market hasn't gone up more already at least in the US market.

@@kuhrd : right! I think he should open it up and measure the cells. Then trying to top-balance properly and then do the test again. Anyway, for a new battery this is a rather poor result. Cells should have been matched and balanced before in the manufactoring process. This battery is not meant to be taken apart and balanced for each cell!

Go get the overkill solar app! Not only will it connect with the Bluetooth dongle inside the battery case it will also let you adjust the parameters (be extremely careful) and let you manually switch the mosfet states.
I like to turn on battery balancing while even sitting idle for a few days to get the cells dead perfect.
My AOLithium was also a bit finicky when new until i did this!

10:05 The designers of the battery know what open and closed mean but designers of software are on a different page.

Indeed. It's almost twice the price of similar products from other manufacturers, if you ignore the BT option.
There's no mention of low temperature charging termination either, which is crucial for us in the northern hemisphere.

Dreadful use of terminology in the app - open meaning active which is actually switch closed, and closed meaning off which is switch open.

I have opened another brand, and I found that there is a CAN-bus to bluetooth conversion going on. To set the parameters you need to connect to the CAN bus on the motherboard internally, which is not accessible of course. But then you would need the original software as well.
Having an APP is handy, however there is no way to save to CSV files or any other way to extract the data. For home automation that would be nice to have. What you end up is doing as you do: adding external power meters and such.
Last winter I had my airco in the heating mode running off of such a 100A battery. So cool to see you put in 1 kWh and get 3kWh out of it (in heat that is).

TBH that app is a bit crap, if it showed all the cell voltages at least you'd know if you had 1 high cell or 1 low cell, all you know now is how 2 of the cells are doing 🤔
Looks like the usual 0.5A balancer that can't keep up with the current coming in, you could try to raise the shut off voltage to 14.4 or 5 and limit the charge current to 1A or lower and let it run and see if it can top balance all the cells ?
Enjoyed the video, nice to see UK reviews at last 👍
Are you considering opening it up? Be interesting to see if it's pouch cells, possibly 8 50Ah pouches 🤔

According to the data sheet it should deliver 100Ah at 0.5C or 50A! I say no chance based on the test you did. And as per the previous comment, the voltage difference is way too much....

Hey ! Thanks for the review. Im not a pro so i havent understood a lot of thing but im planning to buy one for my van. I found a distributor delling them for a bit less than 400€. Its very competitive, should i give it a go or go for something a bit more reknown (but way more expensive?) Thanks a lot, bye :)

I have purchased this very battery from aolithium uk, have had problem from new with no 4 cell discharging at lot quicker than the rest of the cells, From fully charged to 57% discharge no 4 cell cutouts at 2.5v, cells 1,2, and 3 are sitting at 2.9v, Have reported this problem with no 4 cell to aolithium uk on 5 different occasions now, they say to fully charge the battery as this is normal with a new battery, I have fully charged this battery 9 times now and i am still getting the problem with no 4 cell discharging alot quicker than the rest of the cells and cutting out with around 50% state of discharge. Aolithium uk support seem to think that this is ok and the battery is not faulty, I strongly disagree, whats your thoughts or opinion ?

More than 0.2 V in difference between cells ....... that's not good, specially with self balancing capabilities and costing 500 bucks...!!! Great video.

What a stupid balancing system, why does it stop when the cells are not in balance yet?
They are probably using unmatched cells.

The Prowse site he ripped open 6 of these battery boxes from different suppliers. What he found inside should be very alarming viz what we know about Lifepo and Lion cells. Eg poor build quality, undersized wiring, connections, protection, cell quality - matching and so on. As for the bms - well do you feel lucky? There may be reputable Battery makers out there to trust? I wouldnt go cheap charlie here.

Fantastic test program JI, amazing BT app, havent seen one that good so far. Curious no cell balance at end of charge to sort out the 200mV imbalance? Wonder how this progresses? Does it get get worse?. BTW to be fair it seems you can unscrew and open up the battery case - good sign. This one under test is the delux model 4s with a "professional bms" £279 vs £319 would I want to risk a cheap bms??????
