Keep that whiskey for an emergency! My grandfather used to give my brother and I a shot of whiskey when we were kids when we got a cold. I hated the taste but that shot always knocked the cold right out of us!!! To this day (I'm old), I have a bottle of whiskey in my cabinet for colds and it works every time...and yes, I still hate the taste. 🤣

People should understand, as well, that when advertisements are in a video the viewers of that channel should watch the videos, at least for the algorithm, or the video producer doesn't get compensated for it. So despite most ads, which I could care less about, for the most part, I try to endure the brief advertisements for the sake of the uploader. I watch different channels and if there are videos that I'm not particularly interested in and I like the uploader I'll let the video play through while I'm either using the restroom or going to make a sandwich, etc. You have a good channel, Kevin, keep up the good work. ~ Just tell SS that you're a big UA-camr now, bigger than sliced bread, and UA-cam pays well for 4 hours of work. 😂👍 There is more involved in making these videos than people think. For example, a UA-camr is hiking/camping solo and wants a rear shot as they're walking down a trail, they have to have the camera setup on a tripod walk down the trail then go back to retrieve their camera, etc. Anyhow, enough rambling. One day at a time by the grace of God. Thank you for sharing. 🙏👍

I know what you're going through Kevin, My wife and I just applied for Disability down here in Australia and it was rejected because not enough evidence of further treatment so I've got to now find a new Doctor, explain the situation, possibly have to be referred to a specialist then do more Ex-rays, MRI and whatever so I can get a report on my current situation......that could cost me a motza.......MRI is about $600 alone with no rebates from my health insurance or my Government Medicare.......so it better be worth it. The amount of Paperwork and declarations I had to make was thicker than a College textbook.

Kevin, make an appointment at your local SSA office. Have a SSA representative help you fill out that paperwork. You will find out how you stand with your benefits . Everyone on SSA - SSDI has a different situation.
I went on SSDI in 2015. I could work but only could earn $1,040 a month earn more than that I would lose my SSDI. I could get back onto SSDI again if I didn't have that job for some reason.
Now I'm 67 and after 65 I was automatically placed on SS not SSDI anymore. I continue to have the health insurance/Medicare and
my state's Medicaid that I got with the SSDI.
Now on SS I can make as much as I want without reporting my monthly earnings to the SSA-SSDI. Because at 65 I'm now considered retired not on disability. I can now earn as much as I can.

That way you could keep you SSDI and make side money, and never go over the amount you can make on SSDI..
The minute you get married, you will lose your medical..
And if you're on SSDI , you will lose most of it, the minute you get married, because her money will count as part of your income.

I'm working two jobs right now, extra holiday work (don't get me started). I have a van to repair, coolant thermostat problem, and I want to move and get a better lifestyle (odd people moved here since Katrina). For me, it's not the physical work of two jobs, the driving, or finding an honest mechanic. You what it's been, since about 2012, I'm a conservative Roman Catholic. I'm targeted in my neighborhood (an older 1950s neighborhood I've been here all my life) and at my major job. I'm always having to duck or hide or this or that because I have a family and old-fashioned values. It's been sickening. Hopefully, things will shift. And then again, there are other places to live. That's the solution.

Kevin, your state has something like a division or department of rehabilitation that may be part of a department of human services or the like. They should have a vocational rehabilitation counselor that might be able to help navigate your TTW and perhaps with the form. additionally, there are other organizations that can help withthat. If you are working with the div of rehab or whatever, you can get educated on these things but also help to become independent and work. Anyway another option is like others mention a tax accountant or better yet a disability attorney that office may also have tax attorneys that might help. I'm a retired vocational rehab counselor (retired 8+ years) so I am not aware of the new stuff. You should be able to keep insurance for at least three years to see if you are able to maintain employment. so.... check with the state of New York Rehabilitation services and see if someone can help you - let them know the time frame you have to help resolve it.
Also - your work includes ALL the time it takes for a complete video and such - they can help set you up for recordkeeping as well. anyway - best to ya. I started iistening just after you put this out but had to back off because I get pulled back in to the "helper" mode - most times I need to keep my nose outta others' business, lol
I attempted to email but had problems doing so.

  • @jerryk.5960
    @jerryk.5960 Місяць тому +1

Those forms are obviously based on the assumption that a person is working for an employer rather than being self-employed. Your situation is similar to an author who earns passive income on book sales. Their "labor" isn't tied directly to income because the book sales are based on the labor that was done in previous years, just as part of your income is based on videos you've done in prior years. For the amount of labor you do, you should estimate the the time you spend doing the videos, editing the videos, uploading the videos, reviewing comments, setting up product reviews, etc. For income, just take actuals for the most recent 4 months and then annualize it for 12 months. It's only an estimate since the income is variable based on unknown factors. You should be getting a 1099 from someone (UA-cam or Ad Sense) for tax purposes. They have to report payments to individuals to the IRS that exceed $600, so whoever you get the 1099s from is considered your "employer" for tax reporting. You should be treating this as a business and keeping track of any business-related expenses that you can deduct on your taxes, such as camera or audio equipment, editing software, internet expenses, computer equipment, etc. If you do a hiking video, keep track of vehicle mileage in a separate log, as that's an expense item as well. Also, if you're self employed, you'll need to pay FICA for Social Security and Medicare taxes. You'll have to pay both halves (the employer share + the employee share) but you get to deduct one half on your taxes as self-employed. You might be better served getting an accountant to help you will all this stuff rather than a lawyer.
If you are currently being covered by Medicaid, your income limit in NY is $1,732 per month. If you're currently covered by Obamacare, you should go to Healthcare.gov and/or the NY State healthcare website to see what your increased income will do to your premiums (and how much you might need to pay) for your share. If you make below a certain amount, you have to pay little or nothing for Obamacare, but as your income goes up, you will have to pay more out of pocket for coverage. Both sites should have on-line calculators to estimate the impact of your income on premiums. If you're planning to get married, that will also impact your premiums and income thresholds.
It's great you're making some good money now, but now you're going to have more tax-related issues to handle.

You have to tell them what you make varies and depends on multiple variables and different companies. You need to explain it just like you are doing in this video. Yes fill it out the best you can.You can write them a letter attached to the form explaining the fluctuating monthly /annual income and why. Lots of self-employed people. don't have a set income. You might want to keep doors open with them because you never know what the future is going to bring. Don't let it frustrate you. Back away from it and just tell them to the best of your ability. If a question on a form does not apply to you state that in the space and state why. Or make reference in the space in a referral to an addendum .Like see item # 1 in addendum for explanation.
Lots of people are self employed that don't have a set income.u

Kevin, I wouldn't sweat this. The government understands the volatile nature of self employment, so if your projected income is off, they'll either let it go, or at most, impose a modest penalty, which, if your UA-cam channel is doing really well, you will have no problem paying anyway.
As for employer names and addresses, you work for yourself. UA-cam is just your business partner, not your employer, which is why they send you a 1099 every year, and not a W-2. So for the employer name, write "Self" and for your address, use your home address.
For your income, I would just put $5,000 per month, because that's about what you're making on your channel right now. If that number ends up being higher, that's okay because you have no way of knowing that at this early stage in the game. All you can go by is what you're making right now.
Things are really starting to take off for you now, which requires a shift in thinking. You're no longer an employee, but a successful business owner. When you view your life through that lens, that perspective will guide you through these little hurdles, whether it's filling out government forms or applying for a mortgage.
It's such an inspiration to watch your success unfold. You've worked really hard to get to this point, and you deserve all the blessings that will come from this. 👍

You're lucky that you succeeded on UA-cam. I've been on here for many years, and I don't get paid anything. I used to get one hundred dollars per year on here, for about 5? years, but then UA-cam changed the rules on who can make money, and I can't get that many views or subscribers. So I make nothing. I appreciate that I used to get 100 per year, but that is very small amount. It was only $8.30 per months then. Nothing now. We are so poor. We can't rise above.

I heard another youtuber story about being on disability. She had a hard time getting off. Actually, I'm not sure she did get off. Just keep reporting your income every month. They keep you on it for your best interest. When your income goes down you will need the disability. They will not take you off disability for a long while.
And no, you would not have to fight to get it back. Call a disability lawyer, they can explain it.

What a strange gift to receive but in this day & age I'm not surprised😅, normally it would be something like a little clock, their logo, a mug or something. If you're a big time prepper like many these days for good reason, people that don't even drink are buying alcohol bc they may need it as an anesthetic on a wound they my accidentally receive! Here in the UK my husband is a retired self employed painter/decorator. He paid a tax advisor to sort out his fluctuating income at the end of the financial year. In your case to begin with can you get help from SS to help fill in these forms? In the UK we also have a bunch of forms for so many things, many of the questions are irrelevant.

i know what you mean. i had been on SSDI and went to work. Yes you get penalized. Also a hobby can be considered work. Its 40 hours a month or by the amount you bring in. I was self employed too. Also if any time you fall under your amount that would had been getting from SSDI , Then they supplement it. Best thing is go down and talk with them. its the best!

Make an appointment with Social Security to sit down and talk with them. If you are one Social Security disability they may not consider this as "working" and maybe you can continue to collect your SSD check while doing your tube.

Usually you are penalized after you make over the earnings limit and they will take back $1 for every $2 you make over that limit. After full retirement age the penalty goes away which seems backwards to me. It seems they penalize people who are trying to work more and save up for retirement. Good luck Kevin!

CPA here - how about set up an LLC and tell SS that you work for that LLC? Or is the difference getting a 1099 versus a W-2? I'm no SS expert.

I do know a little bit about this. He would be considered an independent contractor and he would have to file an I9. You are the boss it would be your phone number all the information that would normally pertain to the business because that would be your employer as you. Maybe that can help you some.

    Usually SS sends a pamphlet
    (With instructions & definitions)
    along with their applications.
    Did you get one?

Thats a mess! Yes, you need help with that, if its SSI you can't earn more than 900$ or so dollars. Once you turn that in they will deny you and keep that info until the next time and use it against you. You need to apply when you are no longer working.
