As a lefty here is how I handle learning from videos. I point my computer screen at a mirror and then watch the video in the mirror. Instant left handed instructions. Hope this helps someone.

It is perfect I can see it now is a real ring, I got confuse because you cut the thread off the ball.

That is ok don't worry about that. Everyone has some confusion when it comes to tatting. it is things like that to make us stop and think for a minute and say I wonder can I do this different and it be easier. then out pops a new easier technique. So keep up the good work. Happy Tatting

You need turn the thread from the ball 90 degrees making a loop, the split the trhread making the first hafl doble stiches wiht the thread you see from the needle so it now from the loop you made, do not get confuse with the thread from the ball, make all the stiches for making a ring, you are working on the loop the same shuttle tatting finish pull the needle and close a perfect ring is really diferent I have saw in needle tatting in any video o tutorial. excuse my english please.

Not confused at all. I cut the thread from the ball and used the amount of thread back towards the eye of the needle. That is how a true ring is done. Your using your tail thread to make the ring with. At 1:28 you see me cut the thread from the ball at 2:31 you will hear me tell how you are using the tail thread to make the ring with. I am not using any ball thread on this video at all because it is NOT connected to the ball in anyway. If I had of continued to make a larger motif you would of seen the tail thread disappear. At 2:33 is where I state that a true ring is the closest thing to a shuttle tatted ring. At 2:42 I state that you DO NOT tie a knot at the end of the ring. At 3:26 I explain how the thread is cut from the ball and that all of that thread is considered the tail thread. At 3:44 I show how the set up is done and the thread is at the 90 degree mark to the needle. At about 4:08 I show the difference of how the thread is laid on the needle for both the scmr normally used and for the true ring which is not a common use among needle tatters. At 4:45 I show how to put the first ds on the needle and how the thread is going back to the tail NOT the ball. At about 5:55 you see the ring finished before I pull it off it shows 2 tails hanging off the shaft of the needle and one coming thru the eye the thread coming thru the eye is the continuation of the thread I just made the ring with at the tail. I also state there is NO loop left to run the needle thru in order to close the ring as a scmr. This is the only other way I know of and have heard of to make a ring using needles and also the only ring I have or know of that is the most like a shuttle tatted ring. If what your talking about is a new technique then I would love for you to send me info on how to actually do the ring your talking about. If you could make a video and share it with us it would be AWESOME then we could add that to our repertoire of techniques so others can learn it as well. The only other thing I can think of that you could be saying and I have heard of needle tatters doing this and that is to use the needle as if it was a shuttle. I personally have not done this before but if this is something like what your talking about I would love to know how it is done as we have some tatters who can't use a shuttle anymore. So if you have any information to share it would be appreciated. But for now in this video I am not using the ball thread and in Video lesson 4 the ball thread is only attached to show how to continue on with the chains using the ball thread and the rings are done using the tail thread. They are 2 completely different aspects of how to use the true ring method created by Barbara Foster. I hope that clarifies things better for you and may can help stop some of the confusion.

I like your videos, and I like Barbara Foster tatting, I can not make a video now, but the tecnique is wonderful and new so I wrote about it to you for the people know about it, I never wanted get you upset, just is for to give a wonderful tecnique to the people. My aunt can not use the shuttle because she suffer of arthritis in her hands, and my mother can not use the shuttle, because is so dificult to her make the flip in the loop, so they make needle tatting, But my aunt use the tecnique she learned when she do not have arthritis with the shuttle, and my mother notice that. You make a circle, do not cut the thread from the ball. You make a doble sthich with the thread in the circle with your finger the same traditional needle tatting and put it in the needle tatting, so you have split the thread in one hand you have the thread from the needle making a circle behind the needle, in other hand you have the thread from the ball. coming up with the circle is a loop and you had made a doble stich in the looop the same as tating shuttle, you never have to use the thread from the ball, just the thread from the circle so you are making a real ring, when you finish making the sthiches on the needle pull the needle , and you see the stiches on the loop is marvelous, close it you do not need tie the ring as usual in needle tatting, you have a real ring. My aunt had made a skirt wiht this tecnique for her graddaughter, my mother had made two beautiful blouses and four collars for she and for her nieces, and one for my sister, we love make clothes for us, I make tatting by shuttle perfectly, but I really want people make real rings in needle tatting because for my mother tatting improving with the my aunts tecnique, the results is like my tatting by shuttle, Thank

I wasn't upset with you and so sorry it came across like that. sometimes words without expression of the face comes off that way and I apologize if I came across that way. I am not understanding the splitting of the thread. However from what I gather your talking about using the tatting needle similiar to a shuttle. I find that very interesting. Whenever you can either write it out to me or make a video I would very much be interested in sharing this with the tatters. It seems a reliable answer to what so many shuttle tatters tell me the reason they don't want to go to needle tatting because it just doesn't look the same as the shuttle does. I know of several ladies that have given up on tatting because of hand problems and arthritis of the hands and it is so sad. Sounds like your on to something. If I can get the information from you written out to where I can fully comprehend how to do it I would be honored to make a video on it and even name the technique after your family that created it. It would then be yours to carry on forever. This does sound from what I can understand to be something that many would love. If you have the time to lay it down or even just draw out pictures of the steps and send it to me you can email me personally at tamiestatting@gmail.com. Just let me know. I think this could be something wonderful for many tatters. Again I do apologize for coming off as if you had upset me or made me mad in any way you didn't. I had just never heard of it before and I thought you were not understanding the video and that it was Barbara Foster technique I was teaching. Misunderstandings between 2 people on computers is very common. However this explanation you gave me does make sense in the results it is the getting there that is a bit confusing. Thank you for writing me back and hope to hear back from you soon. Happy Tatting :)

Welcome to the channel and hopefully you will join in the classes. I try to pop in when I can and say hello. There are some really well known tatters that come into the classes to teach one being Marilee Rockley, or how about Nina Libin. She does benile lace. It is lovely. We have even had Rina Stepyana from The Russian Ankars Tatting school teach a class. They are alot of fun and full of knowledge.
