My first and only tube of Perylene Green is Daniel Smith and it was a shock to find that it was low tinting! I've always thought of it as very dark and saturated. Then I looked at the swatch I have of it next to a swatch I have from a pan of Schmincke and it does indeed look less intense. I use both of them all the time. It's always fun to see them all lined up together. Thanks as always for a reason to look forward to Mondays!

same for me! i only had it from DS, came in a palette, and you always hear of perylene green as a DARK so it can be so surprising to realize that one can randomly not function as a dark.

Wow! Such an extensive review. So much work! I only have perylene green in Roman Szmal, it quickly became one of my favourite colours. Thanks for that information, I’m going to consider the gouache option too. You’ve got me thinking about what other colours this substitution might work with.

Love the addition of the cotton paper, just because colors look so pretty on the cotton, and it makes me more excited to get them! 😉 I too am surprised how weak that DS looks compared with the others.

my fav is the holbein/ schmincke /winsor & newton which all seem a similar hue and similar in the tints/mixing test.

Love the addition of the cotton paper comparison! Not all colors vary that much between cotton and cellulose, but if they do, now we'll know, so thank you for adding that!
Schmincke was great as always but wow, the Rembrandt Dusk Green was shockingly pretty, I love the slightly cooler, bluer tone it was

Wow beautiful ! great videos, again and again. 💕🙌
Funny I never cared for dusk green until you swatched it here next to the perylenes! Wow it’s gorgeous it makes the pbk31 colors look really dull and less desirable to me lol😬 I think I’ll grab a tube of it now!

Very interesting, as always. 😃 I'm still in the daVinci corner after part 2. I loved the mixes it produced!

Very nice comparison. Even the Jackson's blooper is quite nice.
I own the Roman Szmal PBk 32 Perylene Green, have to check the low tinting strength of that. (I mostly use the Schmincke one.)
By the way: Perylene Green and Perylene Violet (PV 29) mixed together results in wonderfull dark neutrals, a little against my color sense.
Thank you very much for your meticulous work.
Some orange colors would be nice for your next comparison...

Perylene Green is one of my favorite colors, so it was a real treat to see you compare them. I'm not sure why some colors are called or categorized as Perylene, but the ones I've seen (mostly through swatches) I think are extremely lovely and I'm looking forward to the next installment. It's a color that I haven't added to my pallet yet, but am excited to know more about!!
Thanks, as always, for all the work you do!!
Edit.... I just noticed (thanks to youtube) that you did a comparison of the Perylene colors by Daniel Smith in 2018 that explains where that name came from and loads of interesting facts/information. Watching that now !! Thanks again!!

Thank you so much for the work you put into your enjoyable, very informative videos, Oto💞 As a newbie to art your videos are so helpful and appreciated and I will be sure to use your affiliated link when purchasing future supplies from Jackson's.
Like some of the other folk commenting, I too am disappointed with my Daniel Smith Perylene Green. I'm using 3 different papers, Bockingford and Fabriano Artistico, both 140lb 100% cotton for coursework, and for fun a lighter weight, but 100% Khardi. My Perylene Green looks quite grey & insipid on the first 2 papers but interestingly enough I love it's effect on the much lighter in weight, Khardi paper.
I have tried mixing it other pigments to deepen it but can't achieve the hue I want. So after watching this video I'm going to put a tube of Schmincke Perylene Green on my Jackson's wish list. Again, thank you for sharing your videos, Oto💞💞

I’ve been using W&N Perylene Green watercolor which reacts with salt better than gouache, for tubes. But I also love Stoneground Paint Florentine green in pans. Loved the video set up.

Thanks, as always, for the extensive work you do to show us these great colors and how they vary & perform. I really appreciated the swatches on cotton paper and was surprised that the phthalo mixes still looked streaky. The price difference between the WN gouache and watercolor is crazy! Makes one wonder about their other colors that share the same pigment.🤔 I love the Schmincke, but am thinking of trying the Holbein also. I wouldn’t use the Rembrandt as a perylene green, but I would for its own color and the mixes were lovely and strong. Overall, I think Rembrandt paints are a bit ho-hum, but their dusk colors are special. Looking forward to the perylene maroon!

i only have daniel smith’s one, i didn’t realise it was so faint compared to others!! i kind of like it though

    • @loveandlife4222
      @loveandlife4222 2 роки тому +3

Daniel Smiths isn’t that faint. She painted it that way by either adding less paint or more water. I have it too and it is much darker. I think it is a beautiful color though when it’s washed out too. But it is very dark if you don’t wash it out with water.

@@loveandlife4222 Definitely agree. This isn't the first time her swatch of DS has been terrible though. My DS perylene green is definitely darker than this swatch.

Still a fan of Sennelier! It looked much smoother on the cotton paper but did it bubble for you as on the cellulose paper? I'm using it right now and no bubbles. ✨

    • @OtoKano

it's purely because they don't have a Perylene Green, or a PBk31 color, or a similar dark green color.

This swatch of Daniel Smith's Perylene Green is far weaker than I have seen in other videos (Jane Blundell, etc). It leans toward black even with just one layer. I used Holbein when I lived in Japan, but now Daniel Smith is my go to choice. Both brands are vegan. Great channel. I reference it all the time.
