I think its worth speccing the pan roof instead of the 2 tone paint. Its cheaper and makes the roof more black too.
It sure you need the two tone if you spec the pan roof. That’ll already be a huge part of the roof in “black” already. And will give you a bit more light in the interior. Which might be nice since you can’t spec leather in any colour other than black.
If you are going for a hatchback, the black edition is a no brainer. The extras on it are a “bargain” when put against the standard R.
If only there was a black edition estate though. That would be the ultimate sleeper. Darkened lights, pan roof etc on the estate would be a real winner.
Only problem is the wheels. Would prefer the Warmanau or whatever they are called. But no point in optioning them with the black edition. Much better to keep the black Estorils for winter tyres, and get the Warms’ for summer…

totally agree, really don't like the cheap look of solid white or solid paint colours in general, would much prefer pearlescent or metallic.
I feel also with a car at this price point the Oryx White Pearlescent paint would have been a great extra touch to the car over the solid white for sure👍

I will try to find out. I believe the normal MK8.5 Golf R will be however I am unsure if the Black Edition is available in the U.S 👍

Not sure if its just a trick of the light but is there a small canard flick at side leading edge of the top of the front grill similar to the ones on the merc 45 amg? Never noticed this before.

VW has yet to announce anything for the Norht American market. Good luck getting one in 2024
The R badge on the door looks wrong.
agree, not sure why they didn't keep the fender badge, but I guess part of the reasoning is it places it under the beam of the mirror puddle light.
The black edition looks so mean. Hence why I ordered one. I specked my golf with a pan roof. Will the performance be affected??
Many congrats on your order. The pan roof will add weight up high so the performance will be affected a little but that would only really be noticed when pushing on or taking the car on track 👍

Great to hear from you and I hope all is well😊 If you are thinking of the RS3 I would consider one pre-owned as they are around £40k now on Autotrader. I do not know enough about the new RS3 so ill have to do some research on that. However, as a family car I would say the R is slightly better (like we experienced when we test drove that RS3) it just seems like the Golf has more space and is lighter inside. I prefer the blue interior. I would go for the R black edition as great sounding as the RS3 is. Tough choice though! 🤔

GOLF R has more room than a RS3. My friend owns both and Ive sat in both, R is more comfy.
Still confuses me why brands think we want chrome.
Hope they’ve fixed the dodgy water pumps and thermostat issues. At that price I’d hope so!

I understand how focused the Civic type r is, but at 50k with a few nice options, tell me this doesn't seem like a better option.
That is a very good point. I have driven the Civic Type R and it is a brilliant car. The Civic overall is of very high quality in my time spent with it. On the used market they can be had for under £40k for the new version and is said to be one of the best driving hatches out there. I certainly enjoyed my time with the car 👍

Yes you are right it does not look as though you can do it on the configurator just as yet. If you are keen on the car I would suggest sending the configuration to your local VW dealer as it will be specific and subjective to each individual when it comes to monthly payments 👍
@@4445K-z6r True. But you can take a reasonable guess. Assume 50% depreciation over 4 years / 40k and an interest rate of around 7%. Then use a PCP calculator and stick in your deposit. That’ll be pretty close to what you will eventually get. There may be a dealer contribution, but this new in the model I wouldn’t expect much more than about a grand. Which will be close to £25-30 a month.
The monthly price I got quoted was an absolute joke!

Same....no way would I pay that for a golf... within a year it'll be below £40k...I paid £30k for my gtd around a year ago, we buy any car offering me £19k 🤣🤣.(Online without seeing car).... would I accept that??? Would I f@ck as like 🤣.

After my Golf GTI mk7.5 Performance rusted after 3 years and VW did not accept the warranty I will never buy a VW again. I will add that I have never had a car other than VW and VW says that it gives a 10-year warranty against bodywork rusting, which is a BIG LIE.
I am sorry to here you did not have a good experiences with your Golf GTI MK7.5 as I am a big fan of the car. I have also not heard of rust issues within the community so this is a surprise from myside. I have owned my 2017 MK7 Golf R for 7 years and I would be shocked to see any rust which I have not. I hope you have better experiences in the future 🙂
I can lease a S3 in America for $500 a month with bang & olufson sound system. Why would I pay $800 a month for a golf R base with cheap speakers and boombox
It is a very good point when compared to the Audi S3 with the new version being identical in power and having the same 4Motion system also. It is the more premium of the two cars interior wise with Audi sitting above VW in that respect. Best of luck with your decision 🙂
Just ordered my 8.5R and will be trading in my MK8R yesterday, they said it should be with me Nov or Dec. I was undecided about it and was seriously considering the S3 but I am just drawn to the Golf. Hope I made the right decision
@andrewmountford2798 the golf obviously is special because us 40 year Olds approximately, have memories with our Rs and 32s. But the sudden price increases and honestly the Bang & Olufson in my Q5 has changed my daily life 🙃 so my dilemma is crazy bro
Anyway when the mk8.5 arrives drive it in comfort for at least 700 miles before going crazy on anything and if can afford to buy CONTINENTAL ExtremeContact 6 DW 255 40 19 or even 45 if you can fit the 19 rims. If 20 rims then 40 thickness minimum and wider on original wheels 🛞. This way the car will be more like M2

Too expensive here in the eu. the non black edition starts at almost 60.000 euro. The same with the prev. version, you doesnt see them here in belgium because of the price, same for the type R, those hothatches are getting way too expensive, its as if dont want to sell them anymore. Gonna do a few years more with my mk7 clubsport 3 doors, till its over and after that its gonna be something cheap....
