I'm a lawyer in California and I met Lynne a few years before her conviction, and it was really a big topic in the legal community. Personally I was of the opinion that the charges were a bit trumped up, but I'm not intimate with all the details. Michael Tigar was her defender, and that guy is a GREAT lawyer. She did pass away about 3-4 years ago, I know.

Considering America was in the midst or maybe even at the height of the war on terror, it's plausible that someone would be used as an example even if the reality was a lot more benign.
I'm interested in knowing why you think the charges may have been trumped up. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing. In fact, I know ZERO about the case, but for some obvious reasons, I got that feeling when I heard about this. I know sometimes rabble rousers and "radical" attorneys can make themselves disciplinary targets, especially under George W. Bush when there was a general climate of swift, knee-jerk reactions with regard to anything labeled "terrorist." You seem like you have some knowledge of the case, and I'm interested in your opinion.
