I did some checking on this for you. According to the Desert Sun published September 2020, they found Clifford's remains in a mountain community 150 miles away.
Also from the Desert Sun, Daniel Garcia 40 and kaushal Niroula 41, were ex lovers. And went after each other in court to save each of their butts. I can't find definitive information if the others were also gay.
Clifford's ex partner was 34 and passed away in a drowning accident shortly after they split up. Which left Clifford very upset and most likely vulnerable. Clifford's neighbors had called police on several occasions because of the fighting between the two. Apparently their relationship was volatile at times.
Miguel Bustamante was retried and again found guilty on 6-14-23.
Hope that helps! And Merry Christmas to you and Jim! Peace...

Omg Stacy, you are awesome and such a good investigator. I really appreciate the update. I will probably share this in the Community page of this UA-cam channel. I stopped clicking on the Desert Sun articles because they always wanted to charge me and I can’t afford to pay for all the different newspaper articles that have information about these stories. So I only go to the free newspaper sites where they make their money from advertising and don’t charge people to view and read. Thanks again for doing this and merry Christmas to you too! 😄🎄🧑‍🎄👍

That was Clifford’s vulnerability then: liking and trusting much younger men. If he had been more realistic, he would know they were in it to take advantage of him.

@@merrywalsh2809 Yes this is very sad for men in his position and time of life. Loneliness makes many of these men grab at the FIRST fresh flower that comes along without thinking consequentially. Beautiful roses have thorns.
Have seen it time and again with older gay men. Getting older and being alone is very tough but being alone and at peace is,far better than getting robbed and killed and literally left by the side of the road.
Sadly so many people are looking and hunting for money and don't care who gets hurt in the process. Most though are completely inept and don't know how to pull off such a,crime and certainly don't know what to do with money when and if they get it.
I stay away from my relatives because they are exactly like this. If you gave them 10 grand, they'd blow through it in a week on bull💩 and be back to square one. Dumber and more broke than before.

Very sad the way they did this man. Very heartbreaking that they buried him somewhere and 'supposedly' can't remember where. Kudos to the agent who got very suspicious and called the police. Also kudos to the neighbor for calling the police when this man's house was being emptied. Karma catches up to those who do bad things like this. Thanks for sharing this, Steve.

You're welcome for the information Steve. I enjoy detective work. Instead of replying to your comment, I did a new one so you didn't miss it. As it was a lot of work to paste or rewrite due to some sentences being links. This is from the September 2020 Desert Sun. Without the timeline of events, it won't let me send this with them and way too much to retype. :( I also condensed it without the paragraphs or the headline.
Twelve years after a Palm Springs socialite was seduced, robbed and killed by a group of con men, authorities have finally identified his remains after finding them in a mountain community about 150 miles away. A skull and jawbone found near the city of Castaic are from the body of Clifford Lambert, 74, who vanished in 2008, Deputy District Attorney Robert Hightower said during a court hearing in Indio on Wednesday. The bones were found in 2016 and 2017 but a DNA match was not confirmed until Tuesday, he said. Six defendants were convicted in 2012 for some role in Lambert's death: Four were convicted of murder, one pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, and one was convicted of fraud. The four defendants convicted of murder have successfully appealed for new trials because of h-phobic statements made by the trial judge, but those retrials have yet to occur. Hightower told Judge Anthony Villalobos during a procedural hearing in the retrial for four of the defendants at the Larson Justice Center in Indio that the two human remains were obtained by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner in separate locations near the town situated along Interstate 5's winding ascent through the Grapevine, a mountain pass straddling Los Angeles and Kern counties. "Both have been positively identified as Mr. Lambert," Hightower said. No further details have been revealed about how or where the remains were discovered, only that the Los Angeles County coroner handed them over to the Kern County Medical Examiner & Coroner at the time and the DNA results were received recently. Lt. William Hutchinson, spokesperson for the Palm Springs Police Department, said the department could not talk about the new evidence because Villalobos had issued a media gag order related to the case in August. Lambert went missing in 2008. He had been presumed dead since 2009 when Kaushal Niroula, Daniel Garcia, David Replogle, Craig McCarthy and Miguel Bustamante were charged with murder and a scheme to steal his money and possessions. Russell Manning was charged with fraud related to the scheme. During the trial, prosecutors said Lambert was preyed upon by a group of Bay Area con men who tricked him with the promise of romance and money, then stabbed him to death in his kitchen. They subsequently stole his identity, emptied his bank accounts and even tried to sell his house, The Desert Sun reported. Niroula, Garcia, Replogle and Bustamante were convicted of Lambert's murder. One of the defendants, McCarthy, confessed to his part in the killing and was convicted of manslaughter. McCarthy re-enacted the murder for law enforcement, which was captured on video. The prosecutions case fell apart in 2017 after the appeals court ruled the judge presiding over the case was biased. Riverside County Superior Court Judge David B. Downing was captured on a recording during the 2012 hearing saying he didn't read motions from Niroula, who was defending himself, specifically because Niroula has hiv and his documents came in envelopes he licked closed. "Oh gross, and he is hiv positive. God knows where his tongue has been," Downing said, according to the recording obtained by The Desert Sun. "Never mind. Sorry, it's a cruel world folks." Downing was recorded calling the defendants "assholes" and "clowns." During one of the recorded exchanges, Downing said he would deny a motion to sever the case into separate trials for each defendant, even though he knew this was "improper," because a single trial would allow prosecutors to turn the suspects against each other. Niroula filed the motion to sever the trial after it was discovered that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department had eavesdropped on confidential phone calls he made from jail to his lawyer shortly after his arrest, then turned recordings of those calls over to prosecutors. The prosecutors claimed Niroula was wiretapped by mistake, then they released the recordings to the defendants. When asked about the allegations by The Desert Sun in 2017, Downing said he couldn't remember if he made the statements or not. "Who knows? I don’t know what was said five years ago," Downing said. "Off the top of my head, I didn’t say that stuff." Downing, who retired before his homophobic comments were revealed, has not been publicly disciplined by the California Commission on Judicial Performance. The defendants have been returning to court since June for hearings preceding their retrial after the ongoing pandemic delayed the case through the spring.

Steve, I really enjoy watching your videos, especially when you discuss topics related to the LGBTQ community. The story you shared was incredibly tragic, and I wanted to learn more about it. As you mentioned, it seems like the incident was quickly forgotten by the public. Personally, as a member of the LGBTQ community, this angers me a lot. It's disheartening to see that gay kids are unable to come out to their parents and face similar struggles. It hurts to witness the ignorance of people who believe they gain something by harming those who are different. Unfortunately, this won't put an end to such individuals, and it makes the world seem like a terrible place. Steve, I hope you, Jim, and your family have a fantastic Christmas and a very happy New Year filled with love and positivity. Your videos inspire me to take action and make a difference.❤❤

I am so glad I found this story. I briefly met Cliff through mutual gay friends out in Palm Springs. We went to dinner, and I remember him discussing his business and some of his personal life. This was of course way before this all happened. He was nice enough. When I heard that he was murdered and ripped off I was shocked. It's sad that when anyone looking for Mr. Right or Mr. Right now, gets taken in by con men. I don't do the hookup apps like Grindr and Scruff anymore because of bad experiences. It's like Russian Roulette bringing a strange person into your life or even into your bedroom or theirs for the night. You got to be careful everywhere nowadays. Thank you Steve, these LGBTQ fatal stories are sad 😢 and very real. How many times we see an old gay guy getting abused by young companions. We need to understand that realistically many of them are only looking for money. That happened to Ramon Novaro (silent screen gay actor) and got horribly killed by two companions in 1969. Money can be dangerous if you are a mature gay man looking for companionship with very young guys. Thanks for the story, 2 years ago when visiting PS, I drove past the 'Murder house' several times unaware of what took place there in search of Liberace's house ( and a few other celebs ) Lee lived in that corner house in the 1960s and while his other larger PS home 'The Cloisters' was being remodeled 69-71' And down the street, I see now there's a screen placed on the chain link fence of Dean Martins Ranch house, sad the home is sitting in disrepair for so long, I think Dean only lived in it during the late 60's a few years then gave it to his former wife. The land is worth a fortune if the house can't be saved. The neighbors must have complained to the owner for an eyesore, so attempting to block a little of it for now.
As far as Clifford's body in a Desert shallow grave 15 years ago, I doubt anything left, maybe a scattered bone if lucky, the Coyotes and other critters got to it long ago as it was most likely dug up by them. But it only takes one Human bone to find and be reported (DNA)

Fortunately a few people have left comments letting me know that his body was eventually found or at least some of his bones and they were identified using DNA. So at least now his family can have some closure.
As for Dean Martin’s former Palm Springs home, I walked by about six months ago and there was a construction fence around the entire house. I think they are finally renovating it. Thanks for the reminder, I will have to drive by again and see if it’s been completed yet. Thanks for the comment. 👍

I knew Cliff Lambert, and yes, I even slept with him once back in the 1977. Cliff was a handsome, distinguished looking Gentleman, with a very gentle way about him. He was a very kind, and elegant man. He gave me my first job in his Mail order Art Studio located on La Cienega Blvd, in West Hollywood. At that time he had a lovely Beverly Hills estate, and a young latin lover named George. His house was stuffed full of beautiful furnishing, and amazing rare treasures. He told me that although he was born and raised in the mid-west, that his family was from a line of Russian princes, and that really made sense, just from his approach to the world. The last time I saw him was at a wealthy (but vaguely shady) Dutch friends home up in Nichols Canyon in 1979. I remember that when we first met, he had a 4th of July BBQ at his Bev. Hills home that Zsa Zsa Gabor came to ( she was a awful person). He knew a lot of very wealthy powerful people socially, and they seemed to count him as a trusted friend. One quirky thing I'd never forget, was that in his kitchen, the walls were covered in that green vinyl Louis Vuitton fabric, with one change, the initials on it had been changed from "L V", to "C L"! There are a hundred little details I recall about his home, and him. Cliff was just a very dignified and nice man, never aggressive, or with a mean bone in his body. I can understand that he must have felt lonely as he aged, and was far too trusting, which must have been compounded when he moved out to Palm Springs. I just heard of his murder last year, and it horrifies me; that such a cultured, gentle person would come to such a ghastly murder, at the hands of such low-lifes, beggers belief.

Hi Booka, thank you so much for sharing these personal memories with us about Cliff. It’s nice to get to know a little bit more about him. I was living in West Hollywood in 1977. I didn’t know that he had a gallery right there on La Cienega just a block from where I lived.

    • @Booka60
      @Booka60 9 місяців тому

@@theretiredlifewithsteve Just a little anecdote: As part of the prep for that 4th of July BBQ when I first met Cliff, he was fascinated over the idea of "Plugging" a watermelon. That is where you cut a hole in the melon, and stick a bottle of booze in it, so that it drains into the watermelon. I had never heard of it before, nor had he, but he was bound and determined to give it a try. He was so excited by this experiment, with maids running in and out of the kitchen prepping the feast, he carefully monitored the bottle for a day as it slowly drained. The result was actually really good, but decidedly lethal, I didn't dare eat more than a small slice. Just sharing a little moment to humanize him, and show what a fun guy he was.

The murderer and at least one accomplice lived here in San Francisco....if my memory is correct.......my initial comment was early on...so you mention that. Wow, I was in the San Francisco Bay Area when the court case was in the news. These perpetrators were described as a cast of characters drawn from the San Francisco gay social scene. However they were a gang of big time conmen who had swindled Art dealers in Northern Calif., as well as Clifford Lambert. Niroula was the sociopathic ringleader of the group. I only paid attention because I worked at a University. "Niroula also allegedly posed as a business consultant to con a Japanese tourist out of $508,000, and as an art consultant to pry $485,000 from a Silicon Valley collector. He then allegedly stole $300,000 worth of jewelry that belonged to the mother of a friend to pay for a restitution plea deal. And he then somehow persuaded a Marin County judge and a U.S. immigration judge to set bail low enough to allegedly allow him to make his way to Palm Springs and into the life, and apparent death, of Clifford Lambert." Sadly setting his bail so low allowed him focus on Clifford Lambert.
When Niroula was arraigned, "attorneys, police, victims, and former friends already suspected him to be one of the more prolific and ruthless con men ever to hit California. He is credited with persuading the president of the New College of California that he was Nepalese royalty, poised to donate $1 million to the college. In exchange, he purportedly received scholarships and unearned class credit that allowed him to fraudulently extend his student visa. The resulting scandal ended with the college's closing last year." Sadly Clifford Lambert being an art lover became one of this gangs last victims.
