Bolan's guitar playing was sloppy in exactly the right way, I think! The music just struts and swaggers, it's dirty in a really playful way. Love "Jeepster" and it looks a lot of fun to play, thanks for another great lesson!
Perfect timing, Adrian! I just read the bit in Johnny Marr's memoir about how "Jeepster" was the first song he learned and how much he still loves it!!! Thanks, mate!
Your tutorials are really excellent and very helpful. You do such a great job of playing and explaining, especially the bits that may otherwise be easily missed. Thank you!
Really happy you’re bringing up Bolan. You’re making me rediscover Electric Warrior. Amazing Album. Cosmic Dancer always make me cry. This track is also delicious. Bolan’s sloppy playing is part of his genious. People who slag him for it havn't got it.
Brilliant lesson, really well explained. Who cares if he wasn't the greatest guitarist technically, you are right, Electric Warrior and The Slider fantastic albums, music doesn't get much better than that.
nice lesson .i am a big t.rex fan...and a great lesson to learn...he was sloppy but what great music he made...he made his own sound that is magic to the ears...
Wish more people would give this level of tuition on playing Marc Bolan Tracks , he made some great music / singles and albums alike Electric warrior, and, The Slider albums should be in my opinion in everyone's record collection . For all you Cats out there as Marc would say Thanx for this please do some more exlnt
That's Saturday morning up the spout now Adrian.... I am going to get shot because of this video. Thanks for sharing. Good to see my mate is still waving.
Hey man any Mark Bolan and T-Rex are great Tunes to learn on guitar, how about some Jefferson Airplane or some Sweet or Mott the Hoople, or '70s bands like Thin Lizzy, Stooges, MC5, Flaming Groovies, Alice Cooper? You're a great teacher bro, love your playing, love your attitude, love your style.
I love T.Rex, great song, thank you! Bolan had such a unique approach and feel on the guitar and his song writing was exceptional. I read somewhere that he apparently took some lessons with Eric Clapton before electric warrior. As always, this is a great video to keep me busy for a moment! If you could do another T.Rex it looks like myself and some others on here greatly appreciate it (not to be too pushy). Maybe Lean Woman Blues or Mambo Sun, with that groovy rhythm and solo? Thanks again man.
Yesssss!! thank you so much man. I can’t help but think of Bolan when I think of Les Pauls. I know there’s more ‘guitar Hero-y’ players, but, in terms of accompaniment there’s no better.
Yes I just noticed that he was over 99k! (Incidentally, my 14-year-old son who watches way too much UA-cam crap was really impressed that I’m following a guy with 90k+ subscribers but who actually talks to us.)
Mine was "Ride a White Swan", which is in the key of Ab Major!! Not a typical Pop/ Rock key, more jazz/ horns/ woodwind etc. Jeepster is the ultimate "12 bar blues in A", with an extra free bonus 2 bars added. The girls at school went into a trance if you showed them a new picture of him. By the time I could play a T Rex song with less than 10 errors I was going grey and those teen heartbreakers were grandmothers. 😊
Wow! I can’t believe you did it. Great tune! Just today on a long drive I was listening to “Panic in Detroit” as was thinking “ Wouldn’t it be great if Adrian did this song?”
Before my starting on guitar, age 11 in1971, my mum said Jeepster 'is like Led Zappalin' (LZ & FZ!). Played on a nylon 6-string it could be done as a C&W, but virtuoso, neo-classical and shredding was in the future when we saw a star as important as Bowie on Top of the Pops. Marc was the origin point of GlamRock and HE was T Rex, and our black labrador was named trex, also the name of a cooking fat brand. Anyone who derides him has not written, played and performed several hits, while being adored by girls, boys, others in the space of a few short years. There are even bits of his live soloing that could pass for Hendrix - yes really - maybe that's where he got some ideas, like we all do. I'm a fan, like yourself, and also, I approve of your teaching style, something that is not easy. 5 gold stars to you.
Mmmn, Lou Reed's I'm So Free off the Transformer album; Ronson's soloing at the end of that song is most unusual - so "outside" it's almost out of tune but it fits in beautifully. Go check it out. Mick Ronson wasn't a monster player like Jimmy Page or Hendrix but he knew enough to step up to the plate and deliver every time.
DAMN , DUDE , I HATE YOU , YOU ARE SO COOL AN SO SMOOTH , SO BLESS YOU BROTHA , LOVE T REX AND THE STONES , DAMN , YOU ARE A ICON , IF YOU WILL , THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRECIOUS TIME , I DO APPRECIATE , AM ON DISABILITY BUT YOU MAKE LIFE WORTH WHILE , ONCE AGAIN , THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU , PEACE BRO
Fantastic lesson mate! While we are on T-Rex can you do lesson for Bang A Gong. There are may tutorials on UA-cam but no one teaches it properly all the way through. Cheers!
Absolutely great lesson. The first song I ever learnt on guitar back in the 70s. The only thing I spotted that Bolan did differently was a D7 instead of a D on the chord change. But thanks for bringing this back to light!
Great lesson again! For now though I'm determined to work some more on Moonage DD before I get to this. Les Paul idea: Bye Bye Love, the Cars. Maybe a bit mainstream, but the song is in the pantheon of the rock Gods, and the guitar a great Elliot Easton creation. Problem is, the Cars are so perfectly integrated, I'm not sure how you'd pull out the guitar effectively. But if any one can ...(!)
Great choice for your Les Paul Lovefest :-) I have a suggestion for a future LP entry: Howling Wolf and Hubert Sumlin. There are a lot of songs to choose from, Sumlin's LP voice is unique and I think a uniquely LP tone. Killing Floor would be a good one to look into. Your breakdown of that song could actually be quite significant! :-)
The obvious Les Paul follow on's from Marc are something by Bowie with Ronson on guitar or somebody obviously influenced by Bolan and Bowie something from the first Suede LP maybe? I've never liked Les Paul's they hurt my shoulder but I do fancy a 335 at some point.
Given your excellent taste in post-punk, would suggesting Violet Femmes' Blister In The Sun or The B52s' Give Me Back My Man be too poppy? There She Goes Again by The Velvets is maybe more "Adrian"?
Bolan had many many famous guitars and they all disappeared when he died. I think few if any have ever surfaced, they gotta be some place. His LP had several necks as well.
Hi Adrian ,sure I have asked before but where are you based, for lessons , as usual top quality lesson and great choice just love Marc Nolan !! All the best Philip
Pete Townshend, Mick Jones, Guy Days, Walter Lure, just a few of the many great Les Paul players, to go along with some of the other great Les Paul players that have been suggested in the comments for this great lesson!
Good choices nothing wrong with Slash, Kossoff, Page et al but it’s always good to recognise other players. Not a criticism but Guy Days was more a Gibson Les Paul Junior he played a single cut 55 or 56 back in the day. Today he uses a Gordon Smith Junior style he’s a hugely underrated player, the reason being he came from the punk scene and as we all know ‘punks can’t play their instruments’ haha you’ve only got to look at John Ellis to see punk virtuosity
I agree whole heartedly with all you said before the breakdown, too many take too much store in how adept artists are on the fingerboard (those when in the studio say things like "you still can't hear my guitar ", or when live are constantly turning up) when it's the song that's important and not them. Nicely said and nicely done.
Love the hand clapping on the backing track. Please don't tell me it's a feature of the drum machine, I'm enjoying my mental picture of Adrian clapping along too much!
Bolan may not have been a virtuoso but he was certainly a rock star.
Great tune, great lesson, great teacher and a beautiful Les Paul. Great stuff as always Adrian.
Great song from the brilliant Electric Warrior album. Love the T Rex stuff from 1971-73.
I met the drummer for TRex in a music store in Lake Charles, Louisiana years ago. He is a really nice guy.
what are the chances
thats my hometown!!! it was probably lake charles music , everyone went there back int he day!!!!
Bolan's guitar playing was sloppy in exactly the right way, I think! The music just struts and swaggers, it's dirty in a really playful way. Love "Jeepster" and it looks a lot of fun to play, thanks for another great lesson!
I love sloping guitar playing, so much more fun and interesting
Marc Bolan was my first guitar hero and Electric Warrior was the first LP I ever bought back in 71 (I still have it). great lesson.
Love T.Rex. Lovely, massive sounding guitars, filthy riffs, great pop songs.
Look up the connection between Bolan, Eddie Cochran and Dave Dee.
Perfect timing, Adrian! I just read the bit in Johnny Marr's memoir about how "Jeepster" was the first song he learned and how much he still loves it!!! Thanks, mate!
Love T. Rex! One of my all time favorites still. Thanks. Actually Bolan was great and his artistry on guitar is very underappreciated
Your explanation of Marc Bolan's style was the perfect way to explain him to guitar nerds. "Shredding" is great Rock and Roll is about feel.
Sloppy or not sloppy... Bolan had his own style. This is probably one of my fave tunes of all time. Full stop.
Brilliant lesson, really well explained. Who cares if he wasn't the greatest guitarist technically, you are right, Electric Warrior and The Slider fantastic albums, music doesn't get much better than that.
C# start on the a riff really improved my boggie thanks I was stuck on hooker and zz top and boston style
Bloody love this song - early punk? It was my 1st ever 45.
BOY U GOT CARRIED AWAY ON THAT ONE I CAN SEE U ENJOY PLAYING IT I ENJOYED IT
Fantastic lesson Adrian. Thankyou so much for all your efforts in reaching out to all of us who love playing the guitar
nice lesson .i am a big t.rex fan...and a great lesson to learn...he was sloppy but what great music he made...he made his own sound that is magic to the ears...

My absolute favourite T-rex number
Thanks dude
What a beautiful blood red Vox in the background! And another pearl of a video for a great song. .
Super cool lesson
Great lesson Cheers
As usual an excellent, super well explained AND played lesson - 👍🏼 thanks a million.
Thank you for great lesson!)
Great stuff. I've been looking for some insight into Bolan's style. Thank you so much for putting this together!
That's Saturday morning up the spout now Adrian.... I am going to get shot because of this video. Thanks for sharing. Good to see my mate is still waving.
I'm 70 saw him live I was 20 amazing performer audience just went wild adding this to my live set

That was excellent Adrian dear boy .....really enjoyed the tutorial
Electric Warrior was the only T.Rex record I had, brilliant record, every song works. Bolan had music in him.
I think he conferred with Jimmy Page also about technique and guitar mechanics
Excellent.
Just spot on as always thanks yet again always appreciated.
Outstanding, well done. thanks.
Yesssss!! thank you so much man. I can’t help but think of Bolan when I think of Les Pauls. I know there’s more ‘guitar Hero-y’ players, but, in terms of accompaniment there’s no better.
I say, ‘accompaniment’ you know what I mean... rhythm and groove etc.
He knew how to "boogie"
I love this channel. Every Friday, Adrian delivers a great lesson, which is truly inspiring. Let's get him to the magic 100k subscribers, eh?
Yes I just noticed that he was over 99k! (Incidentally, my 14-year-old son who watches way too much UA-cam crap was really impressed that I’m following a guy with 90k+ subscribers but who actually talks to us.)
Excellent choice!
Great stuff
Thank God I found your channel. You have great taste.
Class
Fave Marc Bolan song ever

A very fave!!
Another great lesson, thanks mate! really appreciate a fellow guitar channel
T. Rex is much more widely respected than many may think. I had the privilege being young then.
great song and great lesson as usual!
Before my starting on guitar, age 11 in1971, my mum said Jeepster 'is like Led Zappalin' (LZ & FZ!). You made it ! Thank you so much Adrian !
Thank you!
A great choice and meticulous deconstruction as usual and the LP sounds terrific. Agree this one has held up over time.
Oh. It seems I've already 'liked' it. Years ago I imagine. Guess I'll have to leave a comment to show my appreciation.
Keep a little Marc in your heart
Excellent! Thank you! 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Adrian.

Very easy to follow thanks adrian
Great lesson. From today I am Marc Bolan. ありがとう❕
Bravo - brilliant stuff!
Thank you
AWESOME ❤❤❤❤
THIS GUY IS GREAT EXCELLENT
learnt a lot today, thank you.
thanks from japan
Awesome Adrian love your channel. Working on moonsage daydream too
Nolan was really a great player and the best at sophisticated simplicity.
His 6 sisters sometimes sang along to his tunes before performing "Save all your kisses for me" 😅 (Maybe I'm getting a bit mixed up here!) ❤
A design for life by the manics!!! or any Pistols songs! :D
Cheers!
You mean Get it on ;)
Nice one, again, Adrian !
Absolutely great lesson. The first song I ever learnt on guitar back in the 70s. The only thing I spotted that Bolan did differently was a D7 instead of a D on the chord change. But thanks for bringing this back to light!

Cool
BANG A GONG WAS GREAT SONG TOO! THANKS
Great choice for your Les Paul Lovefest :-)

I've never liked Les Paul's they hurt my shoulder but I do fancy a 335 at some point.
"Moonage Daydream" was two weeks ago, as the start of the Les Paul miniseries, I believe. :)
@@latontolog of course it was :) The problem with following so many quality content creators is sometimes I forget who's done what recently.
If you're interested to know where Bolan nicked the main riff, check out "You'll Be Mine" by Howlin' Wolf
A T-Rex deep cut I've always loved is 'Jewel' if you're looking for another one to cover....
Given your excellent taste in post-punk, would suggesting Violet Femmes' Blister In The Sun or The B52s' Give Me Back My Man be too poppy? There She Goes Again by The Velvets is maybe more "Adrian"?
Nice one, cheers.
Outstanding, as close to Marcs' sound as ever will be👍
Fantastic
Bolan had many many famous guitars and they all disappeared when he died. I think few if any have ever surfaced, they gotta be some place. His LP had several necks as well.
I do appreciate it, you are good
Bolan's sloppy guitar playing was his style, and it worked perfectly for T-Rex
simple yes but i disagree on sloppy
@@clancykobane9102 I totally agree.
Very cool! Than you!
Hi Adrian ,sure I have asked before but where are you based, for lessons , as usual top quality lesson and great choice just love Marc Nolan !! All the best Philip

Cracking lesson as always. Top guy!!!!! Love to know where you get the backing tracks from!
Cheers Toby. Always make my own backings - some are free on my site, some are on my Patreon page.
Yes! You must be reading my mind. Just waiting for Up on the Sun 🤔
Damnit. I got a crush on your Les Paul :D
Brill lesson and Marc-rhythm.
I agree whole heartedly with all you said before the breakdown, too many take too much store in how adept artists are on the fingerboard (those when in the studio say things like "you still can't hear my guitar ", or when live are constantly turning up) when it's the song that's important and not them.
Nicely said and nicely done.
YOU ARE SUCH A BAD ASS
That's spot on...👍
Any chance of doing the brilliant solo from 'Ballrooms of Mars' please..?
Love the hand clapping on the backing track. Please don't tell me it's a feature of the drum machine, I'm enjoying my mental picture of Adrian clapping along too much!
On his Patreon page Adrian certified that that was actually his hands clapping!
Oops, sorry Jeff, I just saw the name. I know you're a regular over there.....
