So tough in his initial lesson to learn this. This is exactly what I do. I hit my driver fairly well, but since I shallow so early, I hit a lot of thin irons. Getting that club to the 3:00 position at parallel to the ground is tough. I'm inside just like your student. Great visuals and drill to understand what is needed...Going to take work, for sure..really cool to see a student who fights the same issues working with you!
For sure Michael--agreed. Not the easiest change in the world and takes time for sure. With a student when I do this in person I always explain the pros and cons The cons are this will not be easy. The pros are when you get it you will get to a level of ball striking you've never had before. We can band aid your current and hit it A LITTLE better (easy) or we can really fix this and hit it a LOT BETTER (harder)
I was just telling one of my golf buddies that Eric is my go-to online coach. And today I’m going to share this video with him so that he can see firsthand why I have chosen Eric to follow versus the millions of other online coaches out there. Great session, you made me proud today, Eric :-)
I used your right-foot back video and it literally changed my golf game. I hit the ball so solid because I'm now dropping into the slot. Keep up the great work, Eric!!
Me too. I feel I have just had an in-person lesson from Eric specifically for my swing issues. My path is typically 6 degrees from inside while the face is only 1 degrees open. Going to become the pupil whilst listening to Eric during practice!
For the most part ive stopped watching youtube instructor videos. So much contradiction / over correcting / rabbit holes you can go down. However i still find my way to your channel. Essentially the only one at this point I follow. Appreciate this vid , as I know its essentially exactly the same issues I run into.
Eric, the issue I see here is that the practice positions don't involve any of the hip rotation that needs to occur in the downswing. I think that adding that in plus the normal side bend will help this student keep the club from staying inside/steep on the downswing.
Agreed thats part of it for sure....but I've learned we can only do one main thing at a time. I believe he needs to change the SHAFT position FIRST independent of body motions. Then we can work those in.
This is brilliant. I’m exactly the same with my swing plane and hook/pull as my miss and have a hard time adjusting. I also go 4-4 and have to stand up/early extend. Will give this a try.
Thanks for your great tips. You had a video approx 4 years ago titled "GOLF: The 4 O'Clock Drill To Shallow The Arms, Hands & Club In The Downswing". I thought you were saying in that drill to have your club in the 4 O'clock position when your club was parallel to the ground, but this video saying 3 O'clock. Is this a change or am I getting confused between the 2 videos? Thanks for youe help!!
Hey Brad! Sorry for any confusion here....I try and explain this more in videos in past few years ... 1. In a real downswing the shaft should be roughly over 3 o clock (shaft down your toe line) with club head even with or slightly inside hands for stock shots or slight draw 2. Since most people swing over the top (too steep....more out over 2 o'clock) club head outside hands...... They need to FEEL....FEEL.....like they get the club over 4 o'clock.......just to have it go from 2 o'clock to 3 o'clock in a real swing You always have to EXAGGERATE more than you think on the opposite of your issue So most people at 2....need to FEEL 4....to really get to 3. Hope that helps
Can you pls define on plane and how you decide that for each person (ie orange line in videos ) Some coaches draw a line from club butt end to the ball at the top of back swing (and try to get you to swing under that plane )
I’m pretty much in the same stage in my swing journey. I finish too far to the right and get the occasional hook. Do you have any video tips on exiting more to the left? Thanks for sharing as always Eric 🙏
Eric, how would you incorporate speed back into the swing when making changes like this? I find that going full speed, you're likely to revert to those familiar patterns that you're trying to change.
Hey! Yep slow and steady Week 1--10% speed Week 2-20% speed Week 3-40% speed Week 4-60% speed Week 5-80% speed Week 6-full speed Thats the real way to do it. Not overnight. But certain improvement.
@@CogornoGolf thanks! I'm making a similar change, and I feel like the way to get the club on plane going through is to feel like you're exiting WAY left and over the top, while holding the wrist angle as long as possible. Think Alex Noren or Wyndham Clark.
Hey! That sounds great---all my spots are filled for this season in PA but if you send en email to service@cogornogolf.com with headline "lessons" we'll get you on the priority list for when we open spots for next season!
To keep from being too steep at the top I always just think about keeping the butt of the grip pointed on plane. That thought always brings me right back.
He also has to fix the problem of his right elbow, it doesnt come close to moving to a point in front of his right hip by P6-P7. He can do the on plane backswing, but that right elbow needs to not lag so far behind, which makes him so steep. I know you can't work on too much in 1 lesson.
The feel for me is standing the iron upright at the top of my backswing, in reality because my spine is tilted it falls nicely into the slot... I seem to hit it the best and most consistent when I focus on this.
Hey Mark! The clock positions dont really apply to top of backswing they are for the position of the shaft when the club is parallel to the ground in the takeaway and again in downswing in delivery
At 7:58 in the video you say that the 4 o'clock position is the shaft angle at the top of the backswing. I tried it and it worked for me. Great video and has already helped me in my swing.
Another way of doing the 2 3 4 o clock is make sure the butt end of your club is pointing at your ball in your swing, then you know you are on a 1 swing path.
Yes This will help you for sure--- This would also be a good way for you to reverse that pretty fast He didn't need this bc he came back inside too much on downswing but if you are too over plan on downswing try this one ua-cam.com/video/_MMVnoYFzMM/v-deo.html&pp=ygUZRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHNoYWxsb3cgZmFzdA%3D%3D
Hey! You could say that.... the better the golfer the more "on plane they are" The higher the handicap the more "off plane they are" Thats been true 100% of the time over my 15 years of coaching. Now thats "on plane" from hip high to high high.....the rest can change a bunch
This is the best golf lesson on swing plane and how to fix it on the internet, bar none. Thanks, Eric for sharing this for free. Genius.
Appreciate that Rus! You got it!!
Can’t tell you how much we appreciate the help! Thanks Eric! 👏🏻
Thanks Frank! Appreciate you guys coming down---had a blast!

Haha I appreciate that and really appreciate the support my friend :)

Love to hear it!!!
I’m the exact same as this pupil….same index, same problems, hit driver well but irons inconsistent. Thank you so much for this lesson!
You got it---hope this one guides you toward improvements!!

Outstanding instruction, Eric. My 37-years as a teacher is applauding your lesson. 👏👏

Thanks for this one! Exactly what I am struggling with right now🤪 Thanks so much😊
You got it---hope this one helps ya :)
Best instructor on UA-cam! Keeps it real 💯
Appreciate ya Ryan!

Was that Peter Finch in the Shot Scope ad? Boy would that be an awesome collab.. Eric and Pete
Yes! Would love to!! Seems like a great guy and would be fun to film with!
Awesome. Love the clubs as a visual
Thanks Adam!!
Great video. Exactly what I’m working on. Only 9 hours drive to Bethlehem PA
Thanks Steve :)
Great Lesson.
Thanks John!

Hey there!
I like to draw a line up the shaft to reference if the club stays on plane or not 👍
Awesome, good stuff
Thank you!!

You may enjoy this one, Tim!

Great video per usual 👍🏾Is this same concept used for driver as well? Thanks
Thank you! Yes!

You got it---thats a great one for people who swing too much inside-out and hit pushes and hooks
Eric, I live in Palmerton PA. I would love to have a ‘live lesson’ with you. Currently an 11 HCP.
Hey! That sounds great---all my spots are filled for this season in PA but if you send en email to service@cogornogolf.com with headline "lessons" we'll get you on the priority list for when we open spots for next season!

What app are you using to record and analyze the swing video?
We love CoachNow 👍
He also has to fix the problem of his right elbow, it doesnt come close to moving to a point in front of his right hip by P6-P7. He can do the on plane backswing, but that right elbow needs to not lag so far behind, which makes him so steep. I know you can't work on too much in 1 lesson.
For sure can only focus on 1 biggie at a time :)
Eric what app do you use to get the plane line on screen when you're taking videos? This is great stuff!
Hey! We use COACHNOW
The feel for me is standing the iron upright at the top of my backswing, in reality because my spine is tilted it falls nicely into the slot... I seem to hit it the best and most consistent when I focus on this.
👊
Appreciate you being here with us!
I don’t get or see the 4 o’clock position at the top? What am I missing?
Hey Mark!
The clock positions dont really apply to top of backswing
they are for the position of the shaft when the club is parallel to the ground in the takeaway and again in downswing in delivery

Appreciate ya watching!
😂
Totally my same faults. Thank you for video!!
You got it Harry---hope it serves you well!
Bro......I'm a 4 in the take away, across the line then to a 2 😂😂🤦♂️. Need to do this over and over and over
Yes This will help you for sure---
This would also be a good way for you to reverse that pretty fast

ua-cam.com/video/_MMVnoYFzMM/v-deo.html&pp=ygUZRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHNoYWxsb3cgZmFzdA%3D%3D
I really felt unstuck with more space for my hands and arms to be able to move correctly when trying this
Hope it helps your game, Chris!
Eric, is this 'single plane'?
Hey! You could say that....
the better the golfer the more "on plane they are"
The higher the handicap the more "off plane they are"
Thats been true 100% of the time over my 15 years of coaching.

Wow Justin Thomas's game has really slipped 😊
:)
I8 handicap....really? I am a tad skeptical....but who knows...good video!!
