I don't care in which accent he speaks...even if he talks in mandarin, german, russian, spanish (which is my language) For me, he's the sexiest man on earth....He's gourgeous in any language or accent !!!
I'm from Scotland and have Irish ancestry too, It's pretty common actually Sean Connery, Billy Connolly, Craig Ferguson and Gerry all have an Irish background.
you have to realise there are some very different accents in both countries. Example; Glasgow and the Western isles are wildly different. Likewise, a Cork, Dublin and Belfast accent are all totally different from each other, and obviously so.
actually jackthelad, they did. If you do actually read up on it, the Scots were from an irish tribe called the scoti in ireland and they travelled to scotland. that is also why they speak, altho a different dialect of, gaelic. and why the music and culture are very simialr.
@Lynnapin well Ritchie, who directed the film is English and certainly knows the difference. There is a huge difference between the Scottish and Irish accent
Don't you people listen he apologises for his attempt at the irish accent, he says his family is from all over ireland but his accent is scottish/american!
At beginning, with the first question being asked...his look is something else! And at the interview's end, with the ending of the apology of Irish accent discussion - he is an example of cute and adorable. Thank you for sharing this video.
NO ONE IS SAYING HE'S IRISH YOU IDIOTS WATCH THE VIDEO. He's apologizing to Ireland for "abusing" their accent by not doing getting it right in P.S. I Love You...
Anyone who has spent a week in Scotland, Ireland and England can tell the difference... but probably couldn't replicate it. If I try I slip between them really easily.
i didn't know where exactly he was from (i've never looked it up), but once he started talking i was like 'that definitely sounds scottish, not irish', and i was right :)
Scottish Gaelic and Irish are based upon the same language, just different dialects. Gerard was wonderful in PS I Love You... In Irish boy with a Scottish accent - a win/win situation!!
hahaha actually Scotch Irish is someone from a Scottish background living in Northern Ireland whereas he's Scottish with an Irish background!! confusing lol
He has been living in america for quite a number of years....and has had to learn the american accen for films...it is just like Mel Gibson...he doesn't even have his austrailian accent anymore.
I agree with zesusd, he is very sexy. and by the way, his Irish accent was pretty good in P.S. I Love You so he obviously is capable of doing it... he's got more talent than any of us here so calm down and give him some credit.
his accent was definately off in ps i love you. it bothered me at the beginning but he captured the character well, was charming and convincing otherwise so by the end i was rather won over by him :)
So Gerard Butler is a big fan of snatch...big surprise! Aren't we all??? Snatch is, without a doubt, my favourite thing. Seriously, though, I haven't seen Guy Ritchie's Snatch, but I've seen Madonna's. But, then, who hasn't?
Scottish Gaelic and Irish are NOT based upon the same language with different dialects, you don't know what you are talking about sorry. They are seperate and distinct languages but are closely related. That is like saying italian and spanish are also based upon the same language with different dialects because they stem from Latin, WRONG.
Seeing as how I doubt there's a chance in hell you could tell an Iowa accent from a California accent, I have no idea why you expected any given American to be able to tell you the difference between, say, Glasgow and Edinborough off the top of their heads.
Like other famous Scots, Gerard talks more 'proper' when in interviews etc. If he were to speak with his everyday lingo, goodluck to those who aren't fimiliar with it lol - now the Dundonian's, they dinnea givafook were ye noo or nor lol!
Nicole occasionally lapses into a slight American and I've heard Hugh say a couple of things that were a little bit on the American side, but as a whole, considering they've been there so long, they both still have fairly strong Aussie accents. But I think both of them still do spend a lot of time here in Aus. It would be harder for a Scot too, the yanks seem to struggle less with our accent than the Scottish and Irish accents for some reason so they have to change their accent to be understood
Lol GB is one of those rare actors you like to watch in film and interviews. Most actors are boring, pretentious or just weird like Tome Cruise for example:)
I couldnt stop laughing at his take on the irish accent it has to be the worst ever but he is scottish & that is cool enough for me :) Scottish are awsome *****
If you want to know the difference between an Irish and Scottish accent, the interviewer is Irish, so listen to him.
I don't care in which accent he speaks...even if he talks in mandarin, german, russian, spanish (which is my language) For me, he's the sexiest man on earth....He's gourgeous in any language or accent !!!
I'm from Scotland and have Irish ancestry too, It's pretty common actually
Sean Connery, Billy Connolly, Craig Ferguson and Gerry all have an Irish background.
Aww, Gerry, don't apologize! We all LOVE your sweet accent!!!
He seems like a great guy to just hang out with, like nothing would bug him. Just a very fun, personable type guy. Cheers to him
he was in the phantom of opera, 300, rocknrolla, law abiding ciziten, ps i love you, etc
you have to realise there are some very different accents in both countries. Example; Glasgow and the Western isles are wildly different. Likewise, a Cork, Dublin and Belfast accent are all totally different from each other, and obviously so.
I could just listen to him talk for hours! He has the most amazing accent!!
actually jackthelad, they did. If you do actually read up on it, the Scots were from an irish tribe called the scoti in ireland and they travelled to scotland. that is also why they speak, altho a different dialect of, gaelic. and why the music and culture are very simialr.
He's cute when he says "but I tried my best". Aww... I wanna hug him! lol.
Love ya Gerry!
@Lynnapin
well Ritchie, who directed the film is English and certainly knows the difference. There is a huge difference between the Scottish and Irish accent
Well, I'm from Dublin and I have to say I sometimes have trouble with the accent myself xD

Us Scots clearly win hands down when it comes to gorgeous actors x]
Scottish Gaelic and Irish are based upon the same language, just different dialects. Gerard was wonderful in PS I Love You... In Irish boy with a Scottish accent - a win/win situation!!

He is Scottish but his parents are Irish. Gerald is very common Irish first name .Butler, is a common Irish surname.
Gerard Butler is Scottish .. He's from Scotland.
He can be better James Bond, they should have picked him instead of Daniel Craig

He has been living in america for quite a number of years....and has had to learn the american accen for films...it is just like Mel Gibson...he doesn't even have his austrailian accent anymore.
did anybody had time to count how many times they say the f- word in that movie?
I wish I had an accent as cool as the Irish, Scotish, and British have.
They all have cool accents.
And no, I'm not saying they all have to same one.
omg god! His accent
I agree with zesusd, he is very sexy.
and by the way, his Irish accent was pretty good in P.S. I Love You so he obviously is capable of doing it...
he's got more talent than any of us here so calm down and give him some credit.

So Gerard Butler is a big fan of snatch...big surprise! Aren't we all??? Snatch is, without a doubt, my favourite thing.
Seriously, though, I haven't seen Guy Ritchie's Snatch, but I've seen Madonna's. But, then, who hasn't?
Seems like a pretty good guy!
the title says irish accent but he sounds scottish.

Seeing as how I doubt there's a chance in hell you could tell an Iowa accent from a California accent, I have no idea why you expected any given American to be able to tell you the difference between, say, Glasgow and Edinborough off the top of their heads.
THIS IS MADNESS
