    Fishing vicariously with you. I was to be right where you are fishing this week.. But stuck at home with Covid. Love being out there with the whales.

      Oh, sorry to hear that! I had Covid this summer and it took me 2 weeks to get back into kayak fishing because it was so exhausting. Feel better.

    The guys in California pedal as fast as they can for most of the fight when they're salmon fishing down there. I'd do it your way, but maybe they're on to something.

      That is interesting! I’ve been almost scolded by people watching my videos for continuing to pedal while reeling in fish. Pedaling keeps tension on but means you’re fighting a fish that’s behind you which is pretty awkward. Do they use barbs in California?

    Awesome! Have you tried freshwater bay near Port Angeles I hear its pretty good for kayak fishing.

      Thanks for clarifying. Coho on kayaks are definitely a lot of fun and good exercise!
      Out of curiosity, what is your take on the weather in the Neah Bay area? I’ve fished out there about 5 times on my kayak and it’s always felt pretty safe/predictable but I hear it can be pretty bad.

      @@kayakfishingpnw ohh yeah it can get really bad out here some times we are about that time of year now where you have to look at what the weather is doing but cool video that looks way fun tho would love to try it

    I noticed that you don't look at your fish finder very much while you're fishing - Do you check it more in off camera moments or do you not use it all that much? Would love to hear you speak on this as someone who is new to fishing puget and not sure how much to incorporate electronics into my regimen.

    • @kayakfishingpnw
      @kayakfishingpnw  2 місяці тому +2

      Great question! This is me personally, but I really don’t look at it much. I mostly use it to know how deep the water is, upcoming depth/structure, and how fast I’m going. I do check for bait balls but I rely on seeing birds or jumping fish quite a bit more.
      I do check my bathymetry map on my phone a fair amount when I’m bottom fishing.

      @@kayakfishingpnw Ok - Thanks for clarifying. I was out fishing area 10 today and drove myself a little crazy with the fish finder - will scale that back per your recommendation.

    Any tips for dialing in the clip on a diver so that it pops when you need to bring it in or a fish hits?

    • @kayakfishingpnw
      @kayakfishingpnw  2 місяці тому +2

      I basically loosen it a little from the factory setting. If I can’t easily give it a yank and unclip it, I loosen it a quarter turn at a time until it does. If I get an accidental unclip, I tighten a quarter turn. Once I get it dialed in it stays put reasonably well.

    For someone who using just mission 100 pelican kayak, i wanted to try fishing on it just for fun. Do you have any tips? Right now all i can think of is to get an anchor. Also i am trying to fish around dash point!

    • @kayakfishingpnw
      @kayakfishingpnw  2 місяці тому +1

      My main tips would be around safety. Stay in calm water. You didn't mention where you wanted to fish, but it's not a bad idea to do something like targeting carp, bass, etc. in warmer, calmer lakes to start. Stay within sight of other boats/kayakers and make sure to follow all laws. If you are on the Sound I would also definitely advise NOT anchoring. I've heard of people capsizing or sinking because a wave hits them when the anchor line is tight.

    What swam behind you in the distance at 3:37 - 3:39 behind your head, it was going to the right very fast..... take a close look and see in the water....

      I think those are actually just low-flying sea birds. I can't identify them from the footage, but there are a lot of auklets and similar that fly inches above the water in flocks like that.
