  • In this episode I finally wire up my Baja Designs ditch lights! I add some CH4x4 switches to my center console for the ditch lights and also for my front lights. Lots of soldering and wiring in this one! Enjoy!

    Excellent video! I'm waiting on all my oddball pieces to arrive to upgrade some of my electrical & charging options, and came here in search of information on removing the switch panel.
    One little tip from an old man; if you offset your splices slightly, you avoid having a harness resembling a snake that has just eaten.

    Thank you for the great install video. Do you have a link to those cowl mounts? I've seen an install video that required some cutting and grinding to make em fit. I'm hoping for a direct fit w/out having to modify the mount.

    WARNING! Don't do exactly what he did to pull out the switch panel... if you do, you run risk of breaking the pins on either side (as I did because I trusted the video)... use a pry bar to remove the pins after you remove the two bolts, THEN pull the panel straight out as he did.
    So far (I'm doing my install now; not a light install, but something for which I needed to pull all these interior pieces out), everything else has been very, very helpful.

    Question: A little off topic from your installation but I'm running oem bumper fog lights with oem wiring harnesses and a factory switch. Is there a way to get at the switch panel without removing the center console? Thanks in advance

    One of those harnesses could be for the inverter that came in some models.

      @@offroadhub.official I am in North Phoenix, so pretty easy access to all trails that central and northern Arizona have to offer. I can offer some suggested trails around here if you’d like. I’m fairly new, so haven’t ventured out too much. I also know a gentleman who is very active in a lot of the off-road groups around here and I could point you in his direction for more suggested trails.
      I have heard the same about most of those FJ cowl mounts.

    Need help, When you ran the harness through the fire wall it had three wires, (the one you took off the old round switch) But when you were connecting it to the CH4x4 switch it had 4. Where did the extra wire come from?

    • @offroadhub.official
      @offroadhub.official  2 роки тому +2

      The grounds were combined into one connector on the round switch, so there were 4 wires, just 3 connectors.

    I have an unrelated question for you if that’s fine.. I’m planning on throwing some 285/75/17 geo lander mts on my 4Runner and was wondering what the process on preparing the rig for them will look like. You seem to be knowledgeable on your stuff. Thank you!

      Thank you for your confidence, but I know 4runners are a little different when it comes to larger tires. I ran that size on my FJ for a little while and just had to do the body mount chop, lift and upper control arms to correct caster. 285/75/17's are significantly larger than 285/70/17's, just so we're clear. Many people confuse the two. Thanks again fit watching!

      @@offroadhub.official Im about to install these switches--my understanding is that the second red wire from the switch can be connected to dash lights with an addacircuit at the fuse panel. You could also join the two red wires together, in which case the switch would only light up when it is in the on position.

      @@offroadhub.official I've seen it in BMW as well (I don't know if this is an across the board car manufacturer thing), but Toyota is pretty good at making sure retrofits for different options are easy to do, and it often leaves all sorts of dead ends on the wiring harnesses lol. They've been that way since at least the 80s. My 85 Cressida wagon project, has like 3 different bolt hole locations for various trans crossmembers... The 85 wagon only came with one transmission choice. It also has the ability for something called the super monitor to be plugged into it, which as far as I know also wasn't an available option for the Cressida Wagon.
      It saves a lot of money to be able to only have 1 wiring harness, or to only create 1 body/frame, etc. etc.
