It's kind of astonishing Spielberg actually moved the fax machine into his bedroom at Kubrick's insistence. Most people would've just said to someone who lives 5000 miles away, "yeah, I moved it to a secure room, fax away," while keeping it where it's always been.

He was apparently incredibly persuasive and charming. You can see how he managed to make his actors and crew jump through so many hoops for him.

Kubrick must had known they receiving the pages on fax machine in middle of the night... and he faxed the pages any way! Very smart of Spielberg that kept it in the friendship zone and never directed a movie for him. Yes Kubrick was a phenomenal director but evidently he did't give a damn about social conduct and boundaries.

Well, I mean Spielberg _did_ direct a movie for him, but posthumously of course.

Quite an honor that Spielberg was befriended so early in his career by such an icon, particularly after releasing such a dog as "1941". By 1980 Spielberg only had 2 great films, "Jaws" and "Close Encounters", and that is being generous to "Close Encounters".

I wonder if they discussed about cinema in their friendship, considering one is a great cinema director and the other a Dysney-style family director.
Ok now I'm gonna watch the video...

Nothing Disnopia about Jaws or his first film with Dennis Weaver. Or his later work like Bridge of Spies, or Lincoln, or Catch Me If You Can, or War Of The Worlds, or Minority Report, or Schindler's List, or A.I.,or Munich.

The idea of Spielberg being put in the same sentence with Kubrick is preposterous. Spielberg never made a great movie in his life that I can think of. Its like putting Kiss in the same discussion with Led Zeppelin.

@@lunar-studios He's the richest of all time and that's what he's good at, making box office hits for 14 year olds. His attempts at serious topics are always slightly laughable, like Munich and Bridge of Spies. Very vanilla director.
