I am currently working on a series, currently projected to be about 5 books, too. I know the MCs so well but that also means there is so much I information to plot and plan around the characters. I have some ideas for other books, one could be another series but more like an anthology series so I kind of want to see how much easier it would be to write a single book story after having put so much planning, plotting and time into this series. This series is my passion project but I might try something shorter for my debut novel.

I discovered you by accident while searching for writing software advice...needless to say, I'm hooked! I've been binging your videos instead of writing...oops. Thank you for your time and your advice! You are an inspiration!

That was a great talk - Thanks!
I'm editing my fourth book in my paranormal suspense series, while also starting the 5th. Plan to release them all this year.
I won't be 'saying goodbye' to the series after that, as you talked about having to do - the first 5 are all standalone stories, but also combine to make a bigger 'first season' of a 3-year series... which can continue in a lot of ways after that first overarching story wraps up.

See, I had wanted to do a series but i haven't even published ONE book yet lol so I think for my debut novel, it'll be a stand-alone before I tackle a trilogy.

Lots of good information here to think through. I have several points I have already been looking into: Do the main characters have enough wounds and flaws to allow growth across all the books? Is a wound/flaw finished at the end of a particular book, partially healed, or left for later? If an antagonist is fully defeated at the end of a book, is the rise of the next antagonist properly foreshadowed? Does the foreshadowing of an event and the event itself span 1 or more book boundaries? If so it will need a refresh in the book where the event takes place. There is so much more to think about going from a stand-alone to a series, my head spins.

Thanks for your video. I am on the first of a 6 book series and only 20,000 words in. My goal is a 50K word first book, so hopefully I'll be able to get the rest written in a compelling and easily relatable way. I wish you the best of luck on your series as well! Thanks again!

What's a good resource on how to present yourself and your work ( like at a convention/tabling) when it's your first year showing yourself as an author?

I think very few writers who don’t plot ever go anywhere. This is based on talking to people in writers’ forum all the way back to the mid- to late 90s. But those same people I’ve noticed tend to have the most raw talent for writing fiction prose.

How would you include characters using social media like making TikTok videos, or characters sending group texts to many other characters?

Yes, I'm working on a very unique novel series involving a Jewish progidy, who eventually discovers the truth about the aliens existence.
