I loved the Micro Collection when I was a kid. I never had a problem pretending that the awkwardly sculpted characters were still able to blast away at each other. That was the power of imagination.
I sometimes like to think the West End Games Star Wars RPG came about purely because a bunch of guys at WEG had the Kenner miniatures and were looking for a way to use them in something that was fun as opposed to them being limited as far as toys went.
That nod to “The Princess Bride” had me rolling! Thank you. When I was a kid desperately trying to earn allowance money and get good grades to obtain more figures and vehicles, I was enamored thumbing through the little included product preview catalogues with the micro play sets. However, I wouldn’t bite because all resources were needed to get the main line figures and vehicles and, while the micro play sets were awesome, the die cast figures were questionable concerning playability. You know, I had gotten as a kid the Return of the Jedi Battle at Sarlacc Pit board game and love playing with the plastic figures of our heroes vs Boba Fett and Jabba’s guards for hours. So I think these micro toys had a lot of potential, it’s just that the main line toys were so damn awesome, you’d only love the micro toys if someone accidentally bought them for you as a present.
I am only a kid but still are inspired by your videos. At the start of the year we had all modern Star Wars toys and now at the end we have Kenner figures from Star Wars, empire, and Jedi, thanks
Finally a comprehensive review of the Micro Collection! Keep up the great work on this channel Mike and Melinda. I so wish that Bacta Tank playset would have seen the light of day. :)
An outstanding video about a terrific line! I was always more into vehicles as a child than action figures, and I LOVED the Micro Collection with all of its mechanical gimmicks. (An X-Wing and TIE fighter that you could blow up and repair and fight again in a flash?!? SOLD!!! :D ) For me, this more than made up for the characters frozen in their poses. I had the Micro X-wing and TIE as well as the Freeze Chamber, Wampa cave, Snowspeeder and Millennium Falcon! By brother also had the Death Star set with the exploding turret (which perfectly complimented the X-wing and TIE) and the Bespin gantry. These were my all time favorite Star Wars toys! Hell, they were my FAVORITE TOYS I EVER HAD, period!!!! Thanks for taking me back. :)
Wow, this definitely showed everything I need to know about the micro line thanks for an awesome video! That Han Solo Carbonite feature is my favorite!
When i sent away for my free Emperor, they took so long to send it that when i received it, they sent 5 Micro Snowtroopers as a way to "apologize" for the delay. This happen to anyone else?
Yep! Same here. My mother had sent away for the Emperor intending to surprise me with him for my 10th birthday. When the Micro troopers arrived, she explained the situation to me. (Kenner was even nice enough to send a "Dear Star Wars fan" letter apologizing for the delay and promised I would get the Emperor soon.) I did eventually get the Emperor some time later :), though he was on the pegs in stores not long after.
This is what got me into buying the Micro Collection! When I received those die cast figures, I didn't know what to do with them. My mother took me to Toys R Us one day and they had most of the big sets on clearance. I picked up sets from there, KMart, and Service Merchandise. I have the complete collection. I took pretty good care of it too, only missing one of the windows from the Bespin set.
I still have my Emperor in the little box they mailed it in!!! I've never opened it, but I know it's in there because when I shake the box I can hear it.
What a trip down memory lane! Thank you for your efforts. Love the new intro. I didnt own these but a friend did. They were hard to tear myself away from.
I haven't watched the video yet, but just wanted to let you know that I just got home from a friends house and it is nearly 2am here in Grantham UK and this is the best thing ever to come home to. I already know I'm in a safe place with great content and people that seem like friends. Thank's for this year's video's and I hope you both have a great Christmas and a fantastic New year. Right now time to watch. Love to you from across the pond.
Wow. This was such a great episode. I was always intrigued by the Micro Collection, but I never got any since I was committed to the 3 3/4 inch figures. Now that I'm older, I appreciate these more than I did as a kid.
I used to have the Micro X-wing, Tie fighter and Snow speeder that you showed as a kid. I never knew what this line up is called until today! Thanks, Retroblasting for making me remember some fun time as a kid! Cheers!
I was going to say amazing house but read the other comments. Very, very sneaky. Awesome video. I got all excited when I saw that it was a Star Wars follies video!
I wish there were more ‘thumbs up’ buttons for this video! This is the greatest Star Wars toy video! So entertaining and hilarious !! Thank you so much for this content ! My whole family loves this video. -SithLotus
Thank you for featuring the Micro Collection! This is probably the only series of toys where I managed to acquire all of them. And that includes the Falcon, snow speeder, and extra rebel and imperial snow troopers. I didn't mind that figures weren't posable. I liked that the scale was smaller because they didn't take up so much space. They were probably less expensive too. As a kid I was only vaguely aware of prices. If only I had kept it.
This brings back so many Great memories I believe my dad bought me all the micro series toys. My cousins and my friends played with these toys all the time.
As much as these criticisms are cracking me up, these paved the way for the AWESOME 90's sets of Micro Machines from Galoob. I never really even knew these old ones existed till I found out about them many years later. These are seriously cool how they are modular too. I'd still give them an easy 9/10
They're cool collectibles but they weren't that much fun as toys for little kids. It used to bug me that they were in such ridiculous poses. I had the Tie Fighter and X WIng and a few of the figures but I didn't actually own any of the playsets until much later when I started recollecting SW toys.
I never knew about that exclusive Falcon. Awesome! As always you're on point with childhood frustrations. Boba Fet, Lando, and upward shooting Luke frustrated me to no end. I loved the idea of the die casts more than I loved playing with them.
RetroBlasting I didn't realise this, but know you have a pointed it out I can't Unsee it now 😂, may ask though if you will ever review the Star Wars micro machines made by Galoob in the late 90s??
DV!!! I've missed that guy. I ate, slept and breathed Star Wars as a kid, but I never knew about the Micro Line; guess I never saw any of those sets in the toy stores. Did they ever re-release them later on like the Power of the Force line? Those playsets look like they would be fantastic on display, but finding one in pristine condition might be a nightmare. More gold from Retroblasting, and the house looks great! Thanks for all your hard work, you guys.
Another amazing review RetroBlasting... There was another part of the Micro Collection according to Steve Sansweet's "Guide to Star Wars Collectibles" was the "Bespin Torture Chamber" which Kenner was advised by several parents groups not to produce because of that one scene in ESB where Han was being electrocuted to draw Luke to Bespin to save his friends was even longer but was shortened by about 30 seconds to get the "PG" rating. Looking forward to seeing what happens with "Broken Vader" next. Keep up the excellent work and MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!!
That would have been awesome to see, If I remember correctly the Millennium Falcon & Snowspeeder were Sears Catalog exclusives and the Tie-Fighter and the "World" collections were either a JC Penney or Montgomery Ward's catalogue exclusive as well. The "Torture Chamber" was supposed to connect near the to left near the gantry portion just to the right of the "Freezing Chamber".
Great vid. I never had any of the micro collection, but they're really, really neat. It is indeed such a shame they weren't 3 1/4" scale playsets. BTW, that jacket you're wearing in the opening is amazing.
Michael and Melinda... I so hate you two for making me wait too long for another video... but yet again, I am really glad that both of you made another brillant and Well written episode worthy of watching... I really hope that there would come a time wherein both of you could make more videos with this Quality in a much shorter intervals of time because there's no other channel like yours and I really Love DV... :(
RetroBlasting Wohooo!!!... I am so gonna wait for that!!!... (:D by the way, could the both of you make an episode featuring the Centurions toy line, or any video where in DV would interact with the other Star Wars characters of the same scale that was featured in this video?... co'z that would be really super!... :)
Awesome take on these. I never was able to get these, but I collected the Galoob Star Wars (probably the plastic version of these) They also had "folding" players with similar figures which bent at the hip. They also came out with "static" figures sets
Great point about the Lando hatch in the micro Falcon. When I got the Big Millenium Falcon a few years back I expected -- with all the bells and whistles that came with that great vehicle -- that they would have included the Lando hatch too. Alas.
I thought BV was going to "put you back on schedule" with retro blasting HQ. "I see you have constructed a new archive, your skills are complete. Indeed you are powerful."
I brought home a helium balloon from church one Sunday in 1983. I tied my Wampa cave hanging Luke to it, OUTDOORS, and let it go. And away he went. I don’t know what I was expecting to happen. I hope some kid found him and had a good story to tell.
great video i only had the wampa cave one bought in lionel playworld in 1989 yes 1989 i remembeR they were still selling till 1990 then by 91 i didnt see them anymore i thought they weRe cool but i couldnt find the others to complete the set either way thx for another great memory of toys from kid born in 1979
I had all of the Bespin sets as a kid, and I remember learning what the word 'beckoning' was thanks to asking my Dad after reading the figure descriptions on the box.
Don't underestimate the popularity of the diecast 😂 As a kid, whenever, I took my diecast Millennium Falcon into infants school on a toy day. It was the most popular toy.
I loved the Micro Collection when I was a kid.
I never had a problem pretending that the awkwardly sculpted characters were still able to blast away at each other. That was the power of imagination.
Han Solo Dance is worth the like and thumbs up from me!
Thanks Paradox!
Man I love coming back to the Star Wars Follies videos so much they're really fun to watch
I had a ton of these as a kid. As a teenager I used em as pieces for the West End Games Star Wars RPG.
nice! im about to run a first edition West End games star wars rpg
Best RPG I ever played!
@@cerethpainting6606 I still have my books. I got the Imperial Sourcebook but never not the Rebellion one.
Ha me too

You didn't mention the fact that this was the only time Kenner gave Luke a BLUE lightsaber when it was the correct color for the figure.
+David Land decisions made in real time are never perfect.
I am only a kid but still are inspired by your videos. At the start of the year we had all modern Star Wars toys and now at the end we have Kenner figures from Star Wars, empire, and Jedi, thanks
Awesome!
Thanks again!
Mike and Melinda, this is actually one of my top five favorite videos you’ve ever produced. Thank you!
Finally a comprehensive review of the Micro Collection! Keep up the great work on this channel Mike and Melinda.
I so wish that Bacta Tank playset would have seen the light of day. :)
An outstanding video about a terrific line!

Three years later and I still hear that song every time during that scene where Vader is “strutting” down the corridor.
Another excellent episode. Thank you guys for all the hard work and effort you put into your videos!
Wow, this definitely showed everything I need to know about the micro line thanks for an awesome video!
That Han Solo Carbonite feature is my favorite!
4:36 made my day
Congratulations Retroblasting. These is probably your best video of 2016 and we are less than few days away from "Rogue One".
It was always in the plan. ;)
When i sent away for my free Emperor, they took so long to send it that when i received it, they sent 5 Micro Snowtroopers as a way to "apologize" for the delay.

AlwaysaMystery Yes The same happened to me too

Absolutely cherished these as a kid!!
Yo I dig the Kylie Minogue album on da shelf and references hahaha. Mad respect.
I love Star Wars Follies! Keep up the wonderful videos Michael and Melinda!
Thanks Griffin!
This is definitely my favourite 'Follies' video. Michael swing dancing was a particular highlight 😀
I am dying with all of the Kylie references!!!
That was a fantastic intro.
What a trip down memory lane! Thank you for your efforts. Love the new intro. I didnt own these but a friend did. They were hard to tear myself away from.

+Matt Leuty thanks Matt! To you as well!
This is basically the only video I watch on your channel because the squatting swing dancing & music Solo pose cracks me up every time.
Wow. This was such a great episode. I was always intrigued by the Micro Collection, but I never got any since I was committed to the 3 3/4 inch figures. Now that I'm older, I appreciate these more than I did as a kid.

Vader strutting cracked me up XD
haha the laughing snowy had me and your dancing han...brilliant
Thanks 007
I was going to say amazing house but read the other comments. Very, very sneaky. Awesome video. I got all excited when I saw that it was a Star Wars follies video!
Thanks Darth! We were excited when it was finally completed!
Haha, the Kylie Minogue references.
;)
I wish there were more ‘thumbs up’ buttons for this video! This is the greatest Star Wars toy video! So entertaining and hilarious !! Thank you so much for this content ! My whole family loves this video. -SithLotus
"You are using Benito's defense on me EH!" Best Retro Blasting skit/joke evah!
The Bespin sets were, are and probably will always be my favorite toys of all time.
Excellent video as always! Lot's of fun knowing about theses SW lines as alot didn't really reach us in Sweden back in the 80's.
Thank you for featuring the Micro Collection! This is probably the only series of toys where I managed to acquire all of them. And that includes the Falcon, snow speeder, and extra rebel and imperial snow troopers. I didn't mind that figures weren't posable. Great video once again, Michael!
Great video as always. You guys always remind me of the awesome toys I had and forgot about. Lots of great memories with these. :)
I enjoy your clever writing. Thumbs up!
Tenth time watching, but still as good as the first time Retroblasting will be vintage one day I know it
This brings back so many
Great memories I believe my dad bought me all the micro series toys. My cousins and my friends played with these toys all the time.
I'm here to watch again.
I love this video
Nice dance moves Michael! Funniest video yet.
Been collecting the Hoth series right now.
Those Micro figures make great miniatures for gaming.
Great episode, I'm spinning around and can't get you out of head!
;)
thanks for the awesome video. that bit about crouching han had me in tears 😂
I learned a lot in this one. Great work guys!
Awesome video as always Mike,
Congrats on 20,000 subs!

+Byron Law did you like the dialogue as well? ;)
I never knew about that exclusive Falcon. Awesome! As always you're on point with childhood frustrations. Boba Fet, Lando, and upward shooting Luke frustrated me to no end. I loved the idea of the die casts more than I loved playing with them.
well, I know what I'll be collecting next. awesome video!
Holy crap you live in what is practically a mansion!! Also, great video as per usual, keep up the work!
sigh (for the 100th time) That's not my house. It's just a picture of a house. It was a joke to establish an 80s sitcom feel.
RetroBlasting I didn't realise this, but know you have a pointed it out I can't Unsee it now 😂, may ask though if you will ever review the Star Wars micro machines made by Galoob in the late 90s??

More gold from Retroblasting, and the house looks great! Thanks for all your hard work, you guys.
Thanks Roger. They never rereleased these. Oh, and that's just a random photo of house for that sitcom feel. It isn't ours. :)
lol Am I the only one more excited for your new videos than seeing Rogue One?
+Dark Helmet haha! Thanks man!
Heh, though I have nothing against Rogue One, your post is what reminded me it is coming out...
Not Worth Your Time Haha, pretty accurate.
Antarctic Vortex ikr lol

BTW, that jacket you're wearing in the opening is amazing.
Thanks man. WWII RAF pilot "battledress" jacket. You can get them at whatpriceglory
Okay, that does it! When I get home, I'm gonna break these classic sets outta storage & set 'em up, reliving some awesome childhood memories!
This is a great video. Good job. Those sets would be great for a DnD session.
As soon as the basement studio is finished it will be much easier to make videos in shorter intervals at the same level of quality.
RetroBlasting Wohooo!!!... I am so gonna wait for that!!!... (:D
by the way, could the both of you make an episode featuring the Centurions toy line, or any video where in DV would interact with the other Star Wars characters of the same scale that was featured in this video?... co'z that would be really super!... :)
I absolutely adore diecast miniatures, I also am a raving starwars fan. This is literally a match made in heaven.
Excellent video! You'd show a feature and I'd remember the commercial for it that I forgot I saw :]
Man, Han Solo taking a crap while swing dancing gave me a snort, lol. Brilliant, informative and hilarious video, as always!
+JOHNNYsXeBLUES thanks!
The Han Solo Crapping and Swing The Blaster Dance! lol Loved it! Very amusing young man! ;)
Awesome take on these. I never was able to get these, but I collected the Galoob Star Wars (probably the plastic version of these) They also had "folding" players with similar figures which bent at the hip. They also came out with "static" figures sets

Didn't know you guys moved into a mansion lol. Great vid its nice seeing a Star Wars Follies on Micro Collection
+Zeerak Imran that's not our house. ;)
I thought BV was going to "put you back on schedule" with retro blasting HQ.
"I see you have constructed a new archive, your skills are complete. Indeed you are powerful."
HAHAHA!
I can't believe that I neglected to Like this video until now. I've probably watched this ten or more times!
I brought home a helium balloon from church one Sunday in 1983. I tied my Wampa cave hanging Luke to it, OUTDOORS, and let it go. And away he went. I don’t know what I was expecting to happen. I hope some kid found him and had a good story to tell.
I still remember getting that Falcon, I was 7, and it was marked down something crazy..best toy 🤘
Cool vid.
these were really cool,i wish i had more of them. i did have a friend that had the whole Hoth world,we played with that a lot,so much fun.
Awesome video, another great chapter. I love my Bespin World, but that Death Star II set would have been awesome.
Han Solo dance is fantastic!!!!! Thanks!
this was a great video. i never had any of these. the only thing missing from hoth was the AT-AT.
Just watched this for a second time. How did I miss the Kylie references!? Brilliant!
When theres a Vader skit it’s like you get two episodes of Retro Blasting xD he’s a great character !
Your house looks amazing!
+John Jones ha-ha. Not our house exterior. That's a cheat.
great video i only had the wampa cave one bought in lionel playworld in 1989 yes 1989 i remembeR they were still selling till 1990 then by 91 i didnt see them anymore i thought they weRe cool but i couldnt find the others to complete the set either way thx for another great memory of toys from kid born in 1979
Always worth the wait!
Man, I loved these so much when I was a kid! I managed to get everything except the Death Star world and the snow speeder and Millennium Falcon.
I had all of the Bespin sets as a kid, and I remember learning what the word 'beckoning' was thanks to asking my Dad after reading the figure descriptions on the box.
Great channel my friend!
Lobot is doing a 70s dance in his figure, nice video.
The TV commercials for these sets are forever etched into my mind
Loved these ones.
Don't underestimate the popularity of the diecast 😂 As a kid, whenever, I took my diecast Millennium Falcon into infants school on a toy day. It was the most popular toy.
I had the carbon freezing chamber . It would drop Han into it , and come out frozen in carbonite . I loved it!
The Vader using the force figure looks like hes trying to do the saturday night fever pose but his arm is getting too tired.
Another great video
The Kylie Minogue songs references are too funny!
I had every one of the sets except the Hoth Base. I loved them and had alot of fun with them.
So was this filmed at your residence or Wayne Manor. Holy Crap! That house is huge! Looks like the Retroblasting business has been goood. Very good.
+in2thezm that's not our house. That's just s photo I grabbed from the internet for a sitcom feel.
