There are some great tips there Will, but then every video you upload is just so enlightening. For me the drum tuning tip is the one I am most fascinated about. I can spend ages tuning a kick to a bass (especially when remixing). I wondered if there was a way to automate the tuning of the kick so it recognises the bass either within the drum rack or by way of an m4l device? I realise it must be impossible (ish) with audio though.? ALSO, with the tips you've shown regarding drum rack, it's making me wonder if I wasted money on AD2 (especially when using a launchpad)
Came here specifically to add FX to a rack, first thing on vid, Got it in 1:40 seconds! The one time looking something up actually ended quickly. TY TY TY! You got a sub!
separate question - I have been using OBS and Reaper VST plug in - but having trouble with a particular track that has a heavy Saw Serum effect (drum and bass) any tips on how to make it work? or is it simply buggy and don't bother? what do you use to screen record (for PC with Ableton?) cheers
I was looking for a generative hobby during COVID and chose ableton. I stuck with it and have now learned so much, especially from your videos. You are the best wingman I could ask for in my favorite pastime! Thank you a thousand times and stay awesome ❤️
Some gold in this video once again! I use Live Lite, so drum racks are essential to get more “tracks” into a session, with all the benefits of grouping and having more send/return auxiliaries available. It’s time consuming, but it’s my “ghetto style” and I make it work.
Just learnt that you can group up chains within a drum rack I used to load multiple drum racks with each being a specific type of drum hit (kicks, snares, hihats...) to be processed together Now I can finally keep only one drum rack for each track Very informative video as always. Thank you Will you've always been a great teacher!
I was looking for a way to set the same fade in/fade out value to all of the samples on a drum rack (36). It was "10:00 - 7. Copy Value to Siblings", thank you. Will watch the rest later.
Excellent tips thank you! I loved the macro sample chooser tip best but also drum rack send/return. It's very exciting to learn these techniques. If you can, please consider mentioning CPU impact or lack thereof for each tip in future! I'm trying to learn how to best make a very flexible improvisation live set so I want to be able to change a lot of instruments and sounds with hands on controls during the set. I'd love to maximise usable creative options without overloading Ableton.
nice video. For the drum rack sample randomization we know have the chance "play one" parameter from the piano roll which is great imo ! just another way doing it of course
thanks a lot super nice video, i wonder if it's possible to set one knob or macro 1 to control a parametter of all the cells in one time for ex set the pitch of all the cells of a drum rack to macro 1 without setting pitch of each cell one by one to macro 1?
@EDMTips the two ways detailed explanations on send/receive channels in the drum rack and the why was my favorite but out of 18 I only knew like 1 (new to ableton this year, watched you before but FL for 3 years) and every tip here will be so helpful!
Great summary video again. I love your summary videos Will. its like watching 20 videos in one video. great job . Its good to know what drum rack is capable of eventhoug I wouldnt use many of these tricks. I dont like over complicating it by assigning multiple samples on one midi signal or randomizing or chocking inside in the drum rack. just my personal choice. But I see how powerful drumrack is you can build the entire track inside of drum rack 😁 But macro sample selector is the most useful tip here actually. Thank you for uploading. you are a great teacher Will. I appreciate you.
Will hope your well! Could you please do a full tutorial on the raptur iii by &me , black coffee ? Also how to get that really clean proffesional sound coming from a home studio? Cheers!
Hi. Like many others I struggle to hear in my studio and I have hearing damage on top of it. I find Ozone Tonal Balance control and Span (free) as great visual tools ✌🏼
@@EDMTips Routing inside Drum Rack, trigering and choke... these things are absolutely new for me and it`s so cool because I can save more time and CPU resources now
Back when I used Ableton 9 and 10, I remember I could simply drag one of those drum kits adg files into the session view, hit play, and it would play that adg pattern exactly as it was made, and I could see the pattern in the drum rack. I also remember I could change the sounds of those patterns in the drum rack, add or remove sounds from it and the pattern would play exactly what I did. Now I can't seem to do this with Ableton 12. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.
Hi! What if I want to launch those toms in the new group by the same button but consecutively? For instance sound 2 on every even hit and sound 1 on every odd hit on my controller? Maybe the same for 3 sounds, etc. Thanks! : )
How could you replace a wave sound with another one from drumrack ? For example, I have a wave performance of a drummer that only have kick on its track (and snare on another and so on). Instead of translating in midi one by one kick drum, is there a way to kind of "side chain" the input wave signal to trigger a kick in the drumrack ?
is there an easy way to trigger one pad from multiple other pads? as an example you have a kick, snare and hihat on 3 different pads and you want to layer each of these 3 sounds with the another hihat sample on pad4
Does anyone know if there's a way to assign a MIDI controller's drum pads to play the sounds in Ableton's drum rack slots? When I try to assign the MIDI controller to the drum rack it looks like it's not an option.
Hello, when i put a deep bass in my drum rack its getting pitcht up and idk what to do. It should be a normal deep bass but like i said when i put it in a drum rack its getting pitcht up direkt and idk how to make it a normal deep bass again. Can someone pls help me?
The only thing I can think is to have it set to "Beats" and not "Textures" or "re-pitch" that;s the only thing I could think of that would do that pitch change. Not sure if it helps with MIDI but I gave it my best shot
Dang I didn't realize you can group cells in a Drum Rack. I had recently been working on a track and thought, "damn, it would be great to be able to process these two sounds, but not the others. Oh well..." Turns out I can haha.

This is the best drum rack explainer I've seen and I've been using Live since like 2006.

Best drum rack video I've seen!
Wow, a great set of tips! Can't wait to try the Sampler auto-assign tip tomorrow, thank you! 💯🎶👍

Hot-swap macro is a cracking tip, works great with randomisation / progressively removing randomisation to get sweet sounds
