Just got my 430/4 ready for summer cruisin' in my '68 Electra 225! Next winter I will have the engine pulled and a new timing chain installed among some other service items while it's pulled out.... But for now, it's ready to drive!
Hey man, I'm an owner of a 68 Electra.. And it had the same engine of yours on it, and I'm facing the same problem with the same sound.. So if you could please tell me what would be the solution?
Ebrahimrayes Mine turned out to be the cam gear. This is a common problem with these engines that occurs due to the poor stock oil pick-up tube not being adequate to keep oil flowing. Unfortunately the solution is either a complete rebuild or a new motor. You can find a lot of info about this on v8Buick.com or teamBuick.com but everyone will tell you the same thing, there is no point in replacing a bad cam gear, these engines need an improved oiling system and once they are worn enough to blow a cam gear or similar part they are in need of a total rebuild.
Lafayette Maintenance i make some Search and i found this www.rowand.net/Shop/Tech/BuickOilingImprovements.htm did you make the same ?? when i rebuild the engine should i enlarge the passage in the Block or only enlarge the oil pump passges and change the oil pump to hi pressure pump ??
Hey, I'm sure that super small air cleaner is costing you power. Laf. Too bad GM had a displacement limit on their intermediates. a 430 should have been in every late 60's GS.

The 430 is a good engine. T/A Performance has all sorts of Buick parts to fix these.
Lockheed Martin used two of those engines to start the sr71 blackbird
flex plate cracked.
You know it ! Had a 70 skylark do the exact same noise, and it was a cracked flexplate.

Oh yeah, I ditched that cleaner long ago. Not that the motor ever lacked for power :)
Exhaust leak .
