      I had the exact same thought coming out of this game. Pats should've lost...it felt like we did. But I also remembering thinking, "Thank God Eli is QB. He'll cost the Giants a game in the playoffs and if we get to the SB, good thing this defense won't be there." The worst part of the eventual SB match up wasn't the Giants’ defense, though. It was the media treating the Patriots like they had already won! I remember Brady did an interview with Chris Berman and Berman was essentially speaking in past tense. It was all about references to the undefeated Dolphins and how this season would go down in the history books and blah blah blah. I wanted to jump through the television screen and strangle him. Any real Patriots fan was not comfortable playing this Giants team again. I'll tell you what though… The worst part of the eventual loss was not the helmet catch. The worst was the play before when Asante Samuel dropped a game ending interception that hit his hands! He took his eye off the ball to try to line up his feet inbounds. As brutal as the helmet catch was, that drop was excruciating.

    Ah, one of the most memorable games for me. I was there and we came so close to winning this one! On the way out, there was a weird mix of disappointment and hope.
    And then I got on the escalator from the 3rd level and my life was changed forever. The escalator had a major malfunction and we were all sent plummeting down for the ride. When I got to the bottom, everything came to a crashing halt and my right leg was trapped inside the mangled mess. Most people were thrown off to the ground, but I stayed trapped for about 30 minutes (it felt way longer than that) until the amazing EMTs came and broke me free with the Jaws-of-life. Fastforward past a 2-week stay at Hackensack University Medical Center and a total of 5 different surgeries over 3 years, I finally had my leg amputated in 2010.
    After watching the playoff game against the Buccaneers from my hospital bed, I was lucky I could finally go home and be able to see the rest of the postseason from my home. Watching the Giants win that Super Bowl from my couch was one of the best gifts I could ever receive and meant so much to me at the time. It still does.

      After this game majority of those Dolphins stopped celebrating including Coach Shula, that they were the only undefeated team.

      The Patriots went on still to reach the point of 18-0 passing the Dolphins 17-0.
      The Patriots had to play 2 more games than the Dolphins did and still passed them.
      The Patriots are now the only NFL team to reach a 18-0 record.
      Pats lost the Super Bowl but it took a miracle catch to finally beat them and for Patriot Nation that’s fine. That it took a miracle to beat them. “ it is what it is”
      The Patriots would go one to 6 more Super Bowls and winning 3 of them.
      Cementing the NFLs only 20yr DYNASTY.

      The reason it was on ALL networks was only partially due to the imporatnce of the game; the NFL had scheduled this for NFL Network and the entire sports world went CRAZY that basically nobody at the time would be able to watch it. So the league couldn't just give it to one network, hence it was broadcast State of the Union style on every network that showed NFL games. This game MADE the Giants that year.

      Watching that game I thought, that gave the Giants confidence, they knew they could hang with anyone.
      Also before the Superbowl, the Pats were cocky. You don't want to insult your opponent. It gives them anger and desire to beat you. The Pats should have been quiet Superbowl week and not give the Giants ammunition.

    In a lot of ways, this season was the NFL’s home run race of 98 equivalent. There was a lot of hype and anticipation around the Patriots as they closed in on a 19-0 season. And of course their offense was legendary. Everyone was watching them and everyone wanted to beat them. We kept our eye on them here in Miami for sure and celebrated when the undefeated season was prevented by the Giants in the big game.

    True story
    Was dating a former NASA engineer who hated football.
    At her house I asked that we check the score of this game and as we laid down and were getting “comfortable”, she said
    That guy in number 12 is like the perfect body type at that position. She paused it and showed how accurate he is throwing downward and how sure he is of his long distance throws based on his entire motion of throwing.
    It was the coolest thing in the world and this was before the record breaker of 50 TD’s for Brady.
    She said
    “He doesn’t have to have a lot of arm. His whole body is behind every throw and he follows through with ridiculous accuracy.”
    And he DOES have a sick arm.

  • @obnoxious3388

    This is the game where the Patriots put the Miami Dolphins undefeated talk to rest.
    After this game majority of those Dolphins stopped celebrating including Coach Shula, that they were the only undefeated team.
    Just a couple still celebrate, those few just can’t face the truth.
    Most dynasty’s during the SB ERA last just about 5yrs. The Patriots from 2001 to 2019 went to 9 Super Bowls and winning 6 of them.
    The averages going to a SB every other year.

    My all time favorite regular season Giants game, regardless of the loss. The fact that we came SOOOOOO close to beating the “greatest team ever” (and still might be the greatest in my lifetime despite what happened in the Super Bowl) gave us Giants fans so much confidence entering the playoffs. We all thought that if we came far closer to beating New England than anyone else, then we could beat every other team in the league. “We could beat these guys, we just need to get through the NFC first.”
    Judging from the ensuing playoff run, I assume the players shared the same sentiment. You could tell in the very next week in the playoffs against the Buccaneers, the Giants’ confidence was at an all-time high. Against Dallas and Green Bay, that confidence never wavered, and when it was time to play New England again in the Super Bowl, it felt like destiny.

  • @TheAireaidLord
    @TheAireaidLord 2 роки тому +1

    As much as people want to discuss the way the Giants "figured out" the Pats offense going into the super bowl, I'd say the same can be said of the Pats. They gave up 35 points here and only allowed half that in the SB. It was just a matter of who got the better defensive stop throughout the entire game.

    • @barbarrrossa5730
      @barbarrrossa5730 5 років тому +2

      As a NFC North team you have to give 100% every week to get into the playoffs. On the other hand, the Pats have the luck to play 6 games a year against basically always bad division rivals. 80% are enough to beat them. That's like having extra bye weeks.

    • @batman91500
      @batman91500 5 років тому +3

      JL-CptAtom If Brady was in the NFC without Bill Belichick, Tom would be a complete joke to the NFL. The NFC North and West would smoke his ass. Fuck the Patriots. It’s all because of Belichick. Tom Brady is really not that good.

    • @MrBigShot110
      @MrBigShot110 5 років тому +3

      JL-CptAtom - It doesn’t matter. When you have a cakewalk to a division title every year it doesn’t matter what happens outside your division until you make it to the super bowl. The AFC has always been the weaker conference, and the AFC east has been trash for the better part of 20 years. You’re obviously a patriots fan given the fact that you dug so deep to find these stats. Congrats on your wins, they can’t be taken away from you. However you have to credit the front offices of your divisional opponents for failing to make adjustments for so long.
