Chalk stops ants in their tracks. Draw a line in between the screen door and big door from frame to frame and they won’t step on it. Also on window sills so they don’t cross inside.
LOTS and lots of household pests and vermin LOATHE Peppermint Oil... I'v been using it for years, and while I live in a food-framed building, other people in my building have issues with ants and spiders etc, but my apartment doesn't.
Even if you don't like the smell of vinegar it disappears pretty quickly anyways! I know some people are allergic to peppermint anything! It's worth putting up with the smell for a little bit!

I saw a top for food grade diatomaceous earth, pit to down around the front door at my threshold and in 24 hours ants were gone. Had been having issues with them coming in thru a crack in front door for weeks prior
It’s best to bait them so they can take the bait back to the colony. Using vinegar only deters them from wanting to go near it which will actually force them to create new colonies. That’s what you don’t want cause then you’ll start seeing them even more places
