Long exposure tutorial with Scott Kelby

  • This is a tutorial I did on-location for the gang at Weekly Photo tips on the simple steps to create a long exposure look (those misty looking ocean scenes that usually wind up being converted to black and white).

    The only comment I couldn't understand was when you said the "lowest ISO for Nikon shooters was 200?" All mine go down to 100, or 64.

    Do you need to lock the mirror up to avoid vibration? How about electronic curtain; is that also necessary? Thank you.

    Why use the Bulb setting when there is a Time setting as well? At least on Nikon.

    There is a great ND exposure calculator for iPhone called ND Timer. Even handles stacked CPL etc. Just plug in current exposure before adding filters and away you go..

    All I am getting is white out when I try this. What am I doing wrong? :(

      Tiffany Tyler your image is overexsposed. Try a darker filter or shorter shutter speed.

    C'mon Scott, you did not mention how to calculate the exposure time.
    Shame on you, it's the more interesting aspect!
