  • Greetings pedal heads! Nick Reinhart checking in with ya and I'm super excited to show you the new DOD Gonkulator reissue! A while back a little bird had told me that Digitech/DOD mastermind, Tom Cram, was working on this, and I was pretty excited about it.
    This video was shot and edited by Scott Ward for Vato Negro Productions.

    Larry Lalonde used the original Gonkulator on the outro theme on the first few seasons of South Park that Primus did

    Am I insane or does the distortion by itself sound really good?

    • @gowithgroove
      @gowithgroove 5 років тому +10

      It's supposedly the same circuit as the GRUNGE, one of the best-loved distortions ever, so yeah it does.

    As far as I know, Jeff Beck was the first guitarist ever to use a ring modulator back in the 70s. He got it from Jan Hammer who used it with his Fender Rhodes in John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra "Inner Mounting Flame" album back in 1971. I was about 5 and remember being in my father´s music room surrounded by all these Les Pauls, Strats, Hindu deities posters and figures etc and seeing him playing his a_ _ off at 300 mph with this weird robot sounding box. I think it was one of Robert Moog´s creations.

    The tone and sound @ 3:15 reminds me of ENDER by Finch. The long version fades out and comes back after some silence with weird sounds and affected vox as well

    Ronald Jones used this back in his Flaming Lips days in the mid 90’s.

    Love how they've added an option to tune it with the reissue, it's turned it into very powerful pedal. The original was just a silly little toy, plus noisy as anything.

    The distortion circuit is the same as the DOD/Digitech Grunge pedal. 🤟🏻I just got my Chinese clone in the mail today. 48 bucks. It fucking wails. Spot on recreation with sick art that looks like a weird Melvins record cover.

    I wonder how they think the Gonkulator compares to Moog's Ring Mod, and the EHX Ring Thing,

    • @josefayala1974
      @josefayala1974 8 років тому

      YEAAAAAAAHHHHH I second that opinion. Is there anyone that would buy this over the Moog Ring Mod....?

    • @stario
      @stario 7 років тому +2

      one Ring Mod to rule them all!

    • @stephenowen3383
      @stephenowen3383 7 років тому +3

      I would say the Ring Thing would win because it does so damn much but all of them are awesome for different stuff. The Moog as a weird pitch shifting thing with the EXP function, the Gonkulator for nasty industrial riffs and the Ring Thing for basically everything and a ring mod sound.

      If you overuse the ring mod yeah. It can be used for some pretty creative effects

    How does one upload new effects to an iStomp? I have one, the 30 pin adapter and multiple devices that take said 30 pin adapter. I just can't find the app.

    • @yargnad
      @yargnad 3 роки тому

      Apple removed the app from the store as if no one would ever want to use them again. It's a major flaw in the iOS ecosystem. Apple has full control over your devices and anything that connects exclusively to them, such as the iStomp.
      Digitech should open source the code so that we can build another interface for non-iOS devices. This is _far_ from the only device and/or app I've experienced this with.

    Nah Andrew Barnum. It doesnt. The distortion is just the dod grunge pedal. First pedal I ever bought. Oh how musicians friend sound clips were deceiving back in the AOL days. Mine got stolen aND I'm actually cool with that. I like the pedals this guy covers, but I wish he actually sounded like he knew what he was talking about
