Hazel I think you should find out what the guests are expecting and also willing to share before they come. It’s like you were hitting brick walls every direction.
But asking what the guests are "willing " to share will make the interviews dull. The guest should just prepare to be open when they accept the interview offer

The host is well composed and has a calm tone but she is also very condescending. There is a way of asking a question without provoking someone. Study and understand the personality of your guests to avoid using your platform to derail their dignities.
