@@icyminkah8391 That's actually crazy when you think about it, they threw a lot more innings back then too. I had to google it, apparently he finally tore his UCL finally at 46 and it was damaged since he was 41 but Tommy John was still pretty experimental back then so he declined.
That first pitch HR is such a big league moment. Just love it.
From his performance thus far, I see why the Pirates made Paul Skenes the number one pick. And that was just last year. Paul Skenes is a stud.

102 on the last pitch of the day, now that’s impressive. I just hope that Paul can avoid injury for a while.
Yeah I’m sure the Yankees and the Dodgers are very hopeful that the Pirates can keep him healthy for them. It’s going to be one heck of a battle between those two for him when he hits free agency. If the Pirates were competent enough to build a winning team he would probably stay but they just aren’t competent enough. For example had they just called him up a few weeks sooner they would’ve got an extra first round pick next year but they are so incompetent they couldn’t even do that. A team that incompetent is hopeless. So therefore Skenes will make a great Yankee or dodger one day
Rookie of the Year is going to be a tough call. I love Imanaga, but my vote at this moment would be this guy
We'll see how the rest of the season plays out. A lot of Japanese pitchers that come over do really well up until about August cuz they are used to making way less starts in the NPB. Shota has been lights out tho.
Imanaga just got torched by the Mets. Skenes got my vote

Aside from giving up that first pitch swing home run that hit the pole to Yandy Diaz, Paul Skenes continues to amaze.

I feel like I'm watching Doc in his first couple years with the Mets again. So much heat, so much liveliness in his arm. Enjoy this time in Skenes' career, he won't be throwing 102 into the 7th when he's 27, 28, 29, but right now he's basically unhittable. Fantastic to watch.

Haven’t watched the Pirates since the 70’s with a 10 yr break till the 90’s … watched Kendall and McCutcheon for like 5 games apiece… now 30 yrs later I am watching once again …. Let’s go Bucs :) ❤❤❤

I watched him through his college career, as well as Jack Leiter, and Kumar Rocker, and Skenes has something that none of the others had.
every run he gives is just unlucky for him, but this man is the best 22 yr old pitcher out there. just incredible, always amazes me since his debut!
dude when he LOCATED that splinker, at 95 mph, low and outside for a backwards K, my jaw literally dropped. That splinker is so so dirty. And hes locating it now?!?! Turned 22 last month?!
I’m happy they are just getting him out there and not over doing it, this is a good example of how to bring a phenom up while not letting his head explode, Stephen Strasbourg was given the pressure day one, Pittsburgh so far is being more delicate…..

Could we have another Garret Cole situation in Pittsburgh where they draft talent such as this, develop them for 3 to 4 years then trade that one person for 3 nobody's and a very low prospect. New ownership in Pittsburgh is needed as well as a salary cap so just like the NFL and NHL it's even playing field for all teams to have a shot every year not just 4 or 5 teams.

I don't mean to rain on parade, but I worry about Paul's elbow/arm. Can he continue at this pace? He throws so hard like deGrom, Harvey, Syndergaard, Senga, Ohtani, etc.
Skenes is a leg pitcher like Nolan Ryan, Clemens. Nothing is foolproof when it comes to arm injuries, but leg pitchers generally have better success with arm injuries long term.
He’s also 6’6” which helps generate additional power, his delivery is smooth, almost effortless.
"Sparking" outing?
Pirates are so dysfunctional. They are gonna miss out on the #31 overall pick that a team gets when a top prospect wins ROY because they decided to wait an extra 3 weeks to call him up. He is going to get the full year of service time anyways because any player that finishes top three in rookie of the year gets the full year regardless. So what was the point in holding him back for three extra weeks? Building an elite farm system is how the pirates are going to become a winning organization, throwing away a number 31 overall pick for no reason at all is not smart
Man I seen this story before and I am worried about his arm. It seems the younger generation don't really pitch anymore and they try to blow everything past the hitter. I hope he holds up but old "Tommy John" loves these big hard throwing pitchers.
Paul is more of a leg pitcher with a short and compact delivery… obviously anything can happen but I think he’ll end up being just fine
