I became OBSESSED with the purple spotted Phal after seeing it on TV and it inspired me to purchase a few orchids. After A LOT of research, last week I purchased 6 phals (4 babies and 2 adults) and I'm hoping that at least one will grow for me. I've never been interested in plants until I saw the spotted phal so I am crossing my fingers that I have just had a dormant green thumb that needed the right plant to bring it out!
I have one like this at 4:08 I gifted her to my mom last year on mothers day, and she had 19 flowers! now more than 12 months have past and the flowers are STILL HOLDING! ! ! ! ! they just don't want to drop! How this is possible? (and BTW, she has 9 leaves)
Awesome video, you showed a good variety of phals. I recently bought a replacement Phal. Brother Sara Gold, (replacing my first orchid, which I killed) it's so beautiful and has fragrance. It reminds me of a sunset. I would love to get a Liodoro if I can ever find one, I really love the shape of it.
Hi Danni happy new year great video I'm not a big phal fan after seeing what is out there I used to have a bellina but it died unfortunately but I'm a huge fan of the mini mark phalaenopsis. Which you showed in the video hope your doing well Andrew xx ;)
I have limited space for my phalenopsis orchid display. I prefer an orchid with a shorter about 6 to 10 inches. Is there a specific name for the phalenopsis plant with shorter stems.
Thanks for the very informative video! I was wondering do you know the name of the orchid you show at 2:17 in this video? I absolutely love the bright pink/purple color of it!
Hi Carol, no it is just one of the many many varieties of purple Phals :) but it is very easy to find one similar, all garden centers should have a purple Phal at some point :)
Thank you so much for this video, enjoyed watching all the different colors, and considering to purchase a Phalaenopsis. I have never had any kind of orchid plant, they are all so beautiful. I want to make sure I know everything about orchids before getting one. Your videos are such a big help. What should I look for in a healthy orchid when I adopt one?
Hi Eily, great attitude before purchasing your new orchid :D well, always look for stiff green leaves, without weird spots on them. Also look at the roots inside the clear pot, they should not be brown or look mushy, go for green roots if they are wet or silvery if they are dry.Flowers might not say much though, but pick the color you like best with flowers that are not deformed. here's a video on Phal care that could help you more ua-cam.com/video/Mce-ne6NyL0/v-deo.html
Arib Hassam among Phalaenopsis species there are Phal. bellina, violacea, tetraspis, stuartiana, schilleriana. The bellina and violacea are wonderfully fragrant :)
I just got a new phal and I'm trying to figure out what it is. The reason it is so important is because I've never seen one like it. The flowers are yellow with red stripes and they are waxy. The leaves on my Phal are also different. They aren't wide and round like a typical Phal. They are long, skinny, and pointed. Any ideas?
I loved this video. While watching it, I thought you should have a PhD in orchid horticulture. You seem to have the most knowledge over all compared to other experts in the field that I have viewed on UA-cam. I minored in botany as an undergraduate in college so I know what I am talking about. You might wish to investigate teaching an elective course in college dealing with orchids. I would have loved to have taken a course with you as my teacher in an elective botany course dealing with orchids. Your videos are informative, practical and interesting at the same time. Each video is a sort of mini-lecture that could be combined with others to form a complete full period classroom lecture. I hope I planted a seed in your mind that will germinate and blossom into something you might like to do in the future.
***** haha thanks so much for the kind words :) oh, getting a phd involves far more work though, I am not knowledgeble in the deepest functions of plants though :P just applying some basic knowledge with intuition and logic that's all :) but if my videos help people out and makes orchid growing easier, I'm happy :) in my country there aren't many enthusiasts that would go to seminars hehe but who knows, maybe one day I'll get invited to an international congress, that would be lovely :)
and also - why whenever I buy a phal mini it dies to me in less that a week? I buy the phalaenopsis mini and I repot it from the sphagnum moss and then roots just starts to die back, and she dies for me! why it this happening? it looks like it dies like underwater. . .
well the orchid does suffer a shock when you change its environment, its media and it is also in bloom. If the particular individual was already suffering it makes things even worse.. remember I told you flower spikes need to be cut in case the orchid starts to go downhill? at the very first signs they should be cut and that's the reasoning, they drain the orchid, if it's not healthy they will exhaust it. At least this is my 2 cents ;)
phals costs alot here in the Philippines i search for cheaper ones but i cant find online shops or store/nurseries that sell phal for a low price can anyone help me/suggestion on where should i buy orchids 😊
Danny Fenty well since most Phals are complex hybrids we can't speak about the regions they naturally grow in, because there is no such thing :) if we speak about species then yes it makes sense to know where they are from.
...and then there's this! www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchidtalk/phalaenopsis-oncidium-intergenerics-bloom/40934-stunning-phalaenopsis-flower-can-you-identify.html
I can color my white orchids blue whenever I want to :P and no need to spent 20 euros for the blue orchid, I just buy the syringe and blue food coloring and dye my orchid :D I really love blue orchids :)
Hi Dannie, just a small suggestion for your videoing, you probably don't do it any more now but please do not take the orchid with long spikes in your hand when you talk. Because the flowers are really nice looking, so I keep staring at the flowers and it actually make me feel dizzy after 30 seconds of shaking :). but other than that it's a very interesting video. Absolutely enjoyed it.
There aren't any black Phalaenopsis though and from what I understand the black ones are just a super dark shade of purple :) but they sure look black ;)
I love Phalaenposis so so so much, but It's bad that there's no real blue phalaenopsis! Or maybie I just don't know, maybie there is some new variaties of Phlaenopsis with blue color? maybie you know something I don't know? and also phalaenopsis with big lips, the lip looks like Jesus mother Maria with its hands in the sides and with the tunic, don't you think? :)
nope, no blue Phals as far as I know, the one that looks pretty blue is the Phal purple martin, but it's actually a purple blue, not ink blue. Oh oh, I'm not very knowledgeable with religious paintings so, not sure what you are referring to :P but orchid flowers do spark a lot of imagination :)
Thanks for explaining, I was confused because my mother's birthday is coming up soon and I want to buy her another orchid, but Blue Mystique cost $15 mire than normal Phals at my florist.

Tiffany Lovering good luck, hoping for many many blooms!

Vytautas Poška it can happen with Phals, that's why I sometimes say that they can be in bloom for even one year ;) it's awesome!
Dear Danny,
Thanks so much for the video! It was very informative and helpful. :)
Thank you :D stay tuned for your story soon ;)
MissOrchidGirl I have to send you an update about that....my collection has grown significantly in the past few months... :)
***** ok waiting for them, I wanted to do the story today but I will make another one and wait for your email ;)
I learned so much from this video
Do you have the ID of the pink phalaenopsis with the dark red lip at 1:45?
Hi, yes it's a Phal. Little Gem Stripes ua-cam.com/video/ynrjR7yUUbc/v-deo.html
Thanks! I see these everywhere, but I was hesitant to buy one since I didn't know the ID. I'll see if I can pick one up soon.
I didn't find one, but a red miltoniopsis followed me home instead :)
Xavier Hung haha how sneaky :P congrats on the new purchase!

that is a gorgeous phal :D I wouldn't buy phals anymore, but any fragrant phal is a sure buy ;)
MissOrchidGirl I feel the same way, I've become bored of regular hybrid phals with no fragrance.

I had a semi-peloric phal, and I was just asking myself how this one was called, thank you!
So what would be a non-hybrid phalenopsis? And is it possible for moth paras to produce fragrance,?
Arib Hassam among Phalaenopsis species there are Phal. bellina, violacea, tetraspis, stuartiana, schilleriana. The bellina and violacea are wonderfully fragrant :)
And the babies of any two of theese would be hybrid?
Arib Hassam yes correct :) it is called a primary hybrid because its parents are species. A hybrid resulted from 2 hybrids is called a complex hybrid.
I just got a new phal and I'm trying to figure out what it is. The reason it is so important is because I've never seen one like it. The flowers are yellow with red stripes and they are waxy. +Kody Wooten well it could be anything but try googling it, just type in some description like yellow phal red veins etc and look through he pics :)

where did you buy the “medium”sized orchid in the beggining of the video? she is beautiful and i love her petals
*ive heard the 2 big petals are petals and behind it are sepals*
Hey :) Today I found some tiny drops on the leaves of my Phalaenopsis which came out to be sticky .What might that be in your opinion? Lovely video !
Мира Дюлгерова here is a video explaining what it is :) ua-cam.com/video/GBULT14qQDc/v-deo.html
thank you :)

+Harry Y oh dear yeah sorry, someone else told me this thing so I try to keep it to a minimum :)) didn't realize it but thanks for telling me :)
There are black orchids. "Dracula orchid" and "witchcraft orchid"

MissOrchidGirl Is the Blue Mystique considered uts one species?
The Mangle *its*
The Mangle The blue mystique is a fake blue Phal, it's just artificially dyed. Originally the orchid is white and future blooms will be white :)
Thanks for explaining, I was confused because my mother's birthday is coming up soon and I want to buy her another orchid, but Blue Mystique cost $15 mire than normal Phals at my florist.
