  • VCM ++ Volume 2 is here! This sound set takes advantage of the latest O.S. update for Prophet Rev2, with tons of new Vintage Voice Modeling Sounds, Binaural Stereo Stacks and Advanced Motion Patches. Now available on Sellfy here: sounddesign.se...
    VINTAGE VOICE COMPONENT MODELING (VCM)
    A few years back I did a bunch of research and analysis on vintage synths from the 1970s through 2000s, to understand what gives classic/vintage synths their lush character and organic warmth. I published info on my findings at www.VoiceCompon..., and released a patch bank for the Prophet Rev 2 (as well as other soundsets for other synths in the past few years). This new soundset (VCM ++ Volume 2) is the latest release, harnessing the techniques I've been working on the past few years.
    LATEST O.S. for PROPHET REV2
    This sound set takes advantage of the latest Prophet Rev2 firmware released a few months ago, which fixed some issues with the Gated Sequencer Key Stepping, along with several other minor bugs. This O.S. (v1.21) is the latest stable release, and highly recommended for usage with these patches. They would technically work with previous O.S. versions, but not sound as good. Go get the latest O.S. for free on the official Sequential website: www.sequential...
    NEW CAPABILITIES WITH UPDATED O.S.
    Now that the Key Stepping of the Gated Sequencer works fully on stacked patches, there are some new capabilities that the Prophet Rev2 has.
    Firstly, it can now pull off stacked/layered patches with Vintage Voice Modeling on both layers, with correct voice stepping. This allows for huge sounding vintage stacks, emulating double tracked or binaural stereo sounds, with tons of organic, vintage character through per voice modeling (VCM).
    Second, the excellent gated sequencer / modulation sequencer can now be used in key stepping mode for stacked/layered patches. This provides the Rev2 with great syncopated motion capabilities, unmatched by virtually any other synth on the market. By combining two layers of Arpeggio motion, with Osc Frequency Modulations, Cutoff jumps and other modulation, you can create rich, animated motion that can be played up and down the keybed in any key -- semi-procedural, intelligent melodies and multi osc harmonies that respond to your playing.
    Third, the above two capabilities unlocked with the latest O.S. can be mixed/matched. For example, there are many patches in the soundset and demo, which have a pad, brass or string sound with vintage voice modeling on one layer, combined with an advanced motion arp on the second layer, for rich motion patches, with a fundamental organic, vintage style based underneath.

    Its always fun to see how far a synth can be pushed. Its incredible how far the rev2 can go, VCM and true stereo easily make this synth sound like its worth twice the price.

    I've purchased both of your banks for the Rev2... epic work mate, Ive spent hours jamming on these sounds. I've also been applying your VCM concept to my own patches with excellent results, thank you. It really is a shame that Sequential hasn't recognised your work. Cheers, Pete.

      I should also add that playing your pads on the Rev2 with some Valhalla vintage verb through a set of Focal Trio 6 is absolute sonic bliss

      Actually i think the OBX8 has this implemented. Look at the video of OB6 vs the OBX8 from Starsky. You see that synth does exactly this... Every note is just slightly different

      @@TheTerracide Yeah, the Seq Vintage Knob applies the same methodology of stable curated offsets to various voice parameters. I would curate it slightly differently, and there's a few issues that I've noted that I think could make it better... but overall, the vintage knob implementation is very good. ua-cam.com/video/G7tdp5tvopU/v-deo.html

    I just bought and loaded these and… wow! Haha.
    I have a difficult time with my Rev2 because I find programming it to be a labour of love. It doesn’t make me feel very creative, musically when I’m programming it.
    Presets work great for writing, composing etc, and this is where having a good bank pays off. When I bought the Rev2 (second hand) it had patches bought from J3PO and Revfield loaded up. Some nice sounds, I’ve played it like this for a few months.
    Today I put this collection on and WOW. This is a whole new synth. I adore these sounds, I think you’ve given the Rev2 the presets it deserves. Thank you so much. I was always going to be won over by vintage modelled sounds but these are just so inspiring to work with and meditative to play. I can really get into a state of flow just noodling around with them.
    Bonus points for the organisation of the patches. Finally having prefixes per type has added ridiculous ease to my workflow. I do lots of on the fly loop performances, and knowing what is a lead, bass, keys etc is vital. Thank you thank you!

    Thank you Creative Spiral, You truly are a genius. Question, I recently purchased a prophet 10 and absolutely adore it, but before that bought a rev 2, had it for 6 months, fell in love with it but felt less moved by it sonically by its self.... now that i have my dream synth the prophet 10, i want to sell the rev 2 but something keeps tugging at my heart strings about it... now this oh my.... i think i'm keeping it, for these groovy arps alone... thoughts on how these synths would work together for disco funk and electro... would the prophet 10 benefit/work well with the rev 2 sound? Thoughts and opinions are welcome. Thank you again!

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  2 роки тому +3

      Hey Nathanael - the Rev 2 is certainly way more versatile and advanced when it comes to sound design options. Prophet Rev 2 includes a 2-pole filter option, 3 more LFOs, an extra envelope, higher max voice count, plus the amazing gated sequencer / mod sequencer and 8 assignable mod slots. It excels with big pads, bigger bitimbral stacks, binaural stereo fields, patches with lots of motion / animation, and patches with lots of dynamics based on playing velocity, aftertouch, etc. The P10 is an amazing synth, with great core filter sound and some nice poly mod options… in my eyes, if you can afford to keep both, I think they can complement each other nicely.

    • @Nathanaelsun22
      @Nathanaelsun22 2 роки тому +1

      @@CreativeSpiral Thanks! I've been feeling the same, it is a nice amount of money, but they really do seem to compliment each other, to blend well. I love making really groovy disco funk synth wave sorta arps in the productions of my songs and then playing the p10 for main chords and bass. Its so nice to be able to have something melodic that is locked on the grid, it gives a lot of forward momentum whilst keeping drums to forming the basic bones of the groove only. Sort of a Chic nile Rodgers guitar thing on the rev 2 really minimal then some level 42 juicy pt10 chords and p10 bass. Its a great sound, sexy!

    This demo sold me on the rev 2. And your sound pack, of course. Am I correct in thinking I can much more easily use your presets as starting points for my own sound design, which retaining the benefits of your careful vcm programming? Vs crafting my patches from scratch or just using your presets on their own, I mean.

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  2 роки тому +4

      Thanks Dan! Hope you enjoy the soundset! Yes, there's some template patches included at the end of the bank that are basically just INIT patches, with vintage modeling wired up. So, yeah, just navigate to them, write the template patch to a fresh slot you want to work on a patch for, and then you're good to go for sound design using these techniques. Lemme know if you have any questions. Cheers, Jason

    Sounds awesome! If you are using the gated sequencer for VCM, can you still use the polyphonic sequencer? Or would you need to use an external sequencer? Thanks!

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Matthew! You can only use one sequencer at a time per layer on Rev2, so if you're wanting note sequencing with these patches then yeah, you'll want to use an external sequencer or daw. For the motion patches in this soundset, it's using ARP plus Gated Sequencer, but operating the gated sequencer like a note sequencer... ie: targeting Osc Freq with specific intervals (octaves, fifths, fourths, etc..)... which makes a sort of "super-arp" that creates generative/procedural melodies/harmonies as you play.

(it also has a separate mode and controller that allows it to play a bass line accompaniment, based on what is being played... I'll do a demo of that when its complete) If you want to see more info, I built a separate, larger on a few years back. Video here with details: ua-cam.com/video/7WrQFnOpqRI/v-deo.html
