In a world where Christopher Eccleston will likely never reprise his role as the Ninth Doctor; The Ninth Doctor lives on, in this audio drama! The Ninth AND the Twelfth, together. The sad part is, that it wouldn't be that difficult to actually make it happen. Both actors are still alive and well and one of them I'm sure it's eager to return any episode now. There would be a bit of difficulty getting Christopher Eccleston to agree, but then again it would be the same with the BBC.

Big Finish are gods at Doctor Who stories. But they're not the only ones. The fact this is fanmade with proper impressionists and an engaging plot and everything... This is glorious sir. Glorious. This, to me, is the official 10th anniversary of the revival. Be proud of it.
And I must say I love the cheeky idea that John Smith may be common because of the Doctor, meaning when Jamie first sees it in The Wheel in Space it might be the Doctor's influence that name is used there...

As a fan of 9th and 12th Doctors, this fan derived story of two-parts was delivered beyond my expectations.
The story kept engaged me to listen and wonder what would happen next.
And how you have made a cliff-hanging ending from the first part was excellently executed, which it felt as if I was watching a real episode of Doctor Who.
The voice actors has done a *fantastic* job as well. I could not have asked more from this audio drama.
I also enjoyed how you tried to made this story fit in with the canon story-line of the Drama series of Doctor Who, and surprisingly it appears to fit in very well.

When I heard Krakatoa I thought, "I wonder if this is gonna tie back into the last few minutes of "Rose" and it did! The voices were incredibly well done and Carley as Capaldi was spot on. Nice touches with "A Good Man?" theme at points in the story. A really good story, too! And whoever did Clara's voice sounded just like Jenna Coleman. We know where this takes place for 9 so where do you have this adventure happening for 12? I was thinking between "Sleep No More" and "Face The Raven".

    • @lukeoliver2785
      @lukeoliver2785  6 років тому +32

Ah, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :) I'm afraid Clara's lines were lifted from TV episodes. For me, this story sits somewhere between 'The Husbands of River Song' and 'The Return of Doctor Mysterio'. I imagine he made the tape whilst he was with Clara, but the kept it in his pocket until it was required. But to be fair there are a number of places this could fit in 12s timestream!

This audio drama was absolutely amazing, I love nearly everything about it. The fact that at first, it seems like the 9th and 12th doctors are in completely different stories only for it to be revealed they're connected down to the temporary companion their both traveling with, the characterization of both doctors as well as the interactions between the two and the plot itself, everything. The only small thing I disliked was I wished 9 and 12 had gotten to interact a bit more, but I understand why they needed to be split up again. Finally, I absolutely love the ending. I've always thought it was such an interesting idea that the 9th doctor actually left after Rose said no and traveled alone for a pretty long time, but this audio drama made it even better since the doctor didn't just remember that he forgot to tell Rose that the Tardis could travel in time, and instead he was actually encouraged by his future self to go back and talk to Rose again, I just absolutely love it.

    • @lukeoliver2785

Amazing! Glad you enjoyed it :) Haha, yeah, I understand, but it's tricky putting the two Doctors together - there's only so much you can do with them before the plot unravels...! This was absolutely fantastic! Legitimately one of the best DW audio dramas I’ve heard. The story was compelling and very well written with great pacing. I’m very impressed by the storytelling, as well as the overall production. The guy who plays 12 isn’t bad, but the guy who plays 9 actually sounds MORE like the 9th Doctor than Eccleston does in his recent official audio dramas. I’m blown away. You’re a very talented writer, good sir. Better than the writers working on the DW show right now, in my opinion. Even if you only release it as fan fiction, you should write a lot more, though I think you could make a career out of it, assuming you aren’t already a professional writer.

when I found out the 9th Doctor already knew Rose, I thought he only knew her up to when he blew that building up, and I thought the cassette was going to be the holographic recording the 9th Doctor gave to Rose in Parting of the Ways to remind him to go back to Rose. But this ending was good too, and a lot less complicated.

Ok. That w,as, to borrow a word, fantastic. A well crafted, well-written story that captures both Doctors perfectly. And they play off of each other so well. There were only a few moments where the impressions didn't sound just like Capaldi and especially Eccleston. And it leaves me wanting more of both. And that ending... It worked so well and fits so well.
I only wish I'd have heard about this sooner. Brilliantly done.

All I have to say for this is "FANTASTIC!"
I took to listen to this at the gym, and the whole thing kept me engrossed! A good Doctor Who mystery, as it should be. I found myself trying to piece together everything that was going on. What is the dead world? Who are the Council? Every moment you're with the Doctor and trying to figure it out with him. Brilliant writing from true fans.
    Now for SPOILERS
    - I LOVED how Selly got a happy ending. I first put her down as being one to be killed off - but no - she gets to live a happy life (albeit aged up considerably) but at least she can live in content now that she knows the truth.
    - I LOVED how you handled 9 and 12 interacting. I didn't realise until now, that 12 is more "chirpier" than 9 - and the latter practically ready to beat him up thinking he doesn't care about what happened to Gallifrey, and the way 12 handled it was wonderful. He can't tell 9 the truth unfortunately, but what he says about the hurt getting better - it really reads true for 12. He knows Gallifrey is safe now, but the pain he went through as 9 was still real, and that can't ever go away.
All in all - Brilliant writing - brilliant story

@@lukeoliver2785 Of course I knew you got the idea from him, I was being silly. But I agree that in your tale, the motivation is superior, and to get the advise and encouragement from his future self fits very nicely. I enjoyed your writing. It was thoughtfully crafted. You were very careful to leave no hole unfilled, and I think you caught the characters of the doctors quite well. I was thrown a little by the 12th Doctor. I felt he was stripped too much of his acerbic personality, and I felt that the ninth was too cold. Funny isn't it. However I forgave this when I learned that the 9th was still quite fresh from the war; and you also had a line in there for the 12th saying that he must have mellowed a bit (can't quite remember the exact wording). I applaud you. This is a very solid effort and I smiled quite a bit throughout. It may not be the case with you. it may come easy. For me I find it hard writing existing characters not of my own making. A writer is put somewhat into a box when they need to fit a character with firm set perimeters. Keep up the awesome work. Do you plan to write other Doctor stories? Peace out Luke. You made today brighter for me.

@@pennilessvoiceactor9054 Haha! I see - sorry, difficult to read dry humour on the Internet...!
Yes, I totally agree, I think my writing for 12 is a bit off. I spent a lot of effort on trying to get 9 right that I think I overlooked 12! Whilst 12 is a bit light in this, I needed him to be the comic one of the pair, as 9 had to have the emotional story and I was keen for that to have the right depth. It's a bit of a fine balance though - humour in the wrong places can really ruin a Doctor Who story!
No more stories from me in the near future I'm afraid. But very excited to hear you're making your own stuff! You write here with great intelligence, so I can only expect your stories will be absolutely fantastic ;)
