Happy St. Patrick's Day! I hope you enjoy my rendition of Danny Boy, arranged by the incomparable, Gene Cokeroft. Gene sang melody on this song with his quartet, the 1961 International Champions, The Suntones. I’ll never forget finally seeing Gene sing this live at The Suntones 50th anniversary performance in 2011. A bunch of us sat on the floor of the hall right in front of them….looking around, there wasn’t a dry eye. No one will ever sing this like Gene, but I’m honored to sing this and dedicate it to him. I can't tell you how happy I am that you popped up on Tik Tok and I heard your amazing talent. My dad sang Barbershop and I went to the annual show at Mother McCauley High School year after year. Here I am at 68 years old getting into Barbershop again. I wish my Dad got to hear you. Maybe he has?

Same! My dad sang barbershop as well. As a kid in the 70s, his quartet let me sing the Bumm da bum bum parts that Basses sometimes get. Lots of fun! This is beautiful Tim . Thank you for sharing
It was the 1970's, my family went to a VFW picnic. I came in third in the sack race, the prize was a record single. I sat down at the table with a few men sitting down. I complained, "what a stupid prize". It was the Irish Tenors. All of the guys were saying, "I'll take it if you don't want it. When I saw how much they were coveting the record, I figured it must be something special. I took it home, side "A" was Danny Boy, side "B" was I'll take you home again Kathleen. I played Danny Boy first, and I absolutely fell in love. Danny Boy has become one of my all time favorite songs.

Tim, warmest St Patrick’s Day greetings to you from sunny Dublin. Harmony Federation is Ireland’s national barbershop chorus, and we sing this with pride. I recall contacting Gene Cokecroft to enquire about sourcing the arrangement. He replied with a copy in email with his compliments, and simply said ‘sing it pretty’. Respectfully Harmony federation is Ireland *male* national chorus ☺️ There is also Ireland Unlimited for women. I'm not a member of IU but just wanted to clarify in case any women in Ireland see this and think there's no place for them, as many think barbershop is only for men. When actually women's barbershop is thriving in Ireland! ☺️

My son, a vocalist in a high school choir, introduced me to this. He is putting a barber shop quartet together. These videos are a great deal of help and inspiration for him.
We just recently performed this song in our choir for school. This song had such a deep meaning to me, your interpretation was beautiful!!

"Bend"..the money note. Worth the wait. Chills, dude. I was puttering around the kitchen with headphones on, looking for something, and I paused for that upcoming payoff, expecting something great. You delivered. I stopped, fist-pumped and shook my head, side to side with a huge smile. I used to do tons of multi-layer vocal recordings of myself. Was trained as a jazz and orchestral trombone player, so I knew how to layer cool passing tones and thick major second and half-step harmonies. Your stuff takes me right back. Keep up the amazing work.

My dad was in a quartette with his best friends and he was the soprano. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and it’s hindered his singing as the years pass, and he sang this song at his best friends funeral. It’s been hard to find really great versions of this song but you nailed it haha. He’d cry hearing this. Thank you for sharing, God bless you.

Mr. Waurick I wanna let you know that you really touched me with that arrangement of Danny boy from the sun tones. I’m from an Irish family and you brought back memories of my departed daddy and brother. They both love that song very very much when I sang with The singing Cedar barbershop chorus in Lebanon Pennsylvania we sang a different arrangement of Danny boy,and I was just a young boy about 17 or 18 years old, and my dad came up to me and said “I really loved that song Danny boy is one of my favorite songs and he sad I did a great job.”I thank you for singing that arrangement so beautifully, and bringing back those Fond memories. It is interesting how timing is everything. I have a very dear friend who passed away Wednesday, plus my dad's passing a couple weeks ago and my cat last week and a huge personal health scare... so then heaven cascaded over my war-torn soul and brought happiness with this wonderful rendition of Danny Boy. Fantastic job, Tim. A great tribute to Gene and his amazing arranging talents. I see the old Suntones' "Afterglow" album in the background. It was recorded in their early years of their barbershop "careers". Danny Boy came a few years later on their "Fiddler" album. I was a huge Suntones fan in my early years of barbershopping - I learned the tenor, lead and bass parts to almost every song they recorded. Never had much luck with the bari. LOL! Then I moved to Dallas and joined the Vocal Majority in 1977. Shortly after, Jim Clancy did his arrangement of Danny Boy and we recorded it in 1986 for the joint album with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir titled "Voices In Harmony". I was singing lead at that time. In 2017, Jim tweaked it a bit and it was our ballad at International. We came in second, but I feel it was "the ballad" of that contest. And now I'm a bass! And "Danny Boy" has been one of my favorites throughout my barbershop "career".
