The biggest hurdle right now with VR simracing titles is that they have detailed modelled track-side objects that tank the framerate. The older games like Assetto Corsa and iRacing have ass trackside detail (like tyre walls look like a solid textured block, trees look like Doom 1993 sprites, and so on), which might look bad on a monitor, but on VR is the biggest advantage for performance, and you don't even notice inside the headset. VR is better than 3 screen set ups. I say this, because with VR you get that depth of field that you're otherwise missing and it make a difference. This is by far the best game to play in VR. ACC you need a very expensive gpu to run vr at epic and not have a drop on fps. AMS2 I have it all at the higher settings while using an xt6700 and it looks amazing. The AMD radeon software has the avg fps for AMS2 at 117fps, I only play it VR. I've tried ACC, iRacing but AMS2 is the best, not to mention the tracks you can choose from, whereas ACC is very limited. Though the downside of the game is the lack of gt3 vehicles, I think they should expand on that. Also the quality of the engine sounds can be a little better, but I really like the fact that you can hear the gear shift actuator more pronounced as you would in a real race car.
I play all my driving in VR (My rig is not facing monitors) I know unpopular but ive managed to even get ACC working OK in VR thanks to a 2080Ti lol. But anyway for ease of get in and go with the Index for me personally its; Joint 1st -PCars2 -AMS2 VR is about the same as PCars2, great choice of cars, one is more arcade one is more real, VR around the same just the dogs dangles of download and play and look amazing in 2d and VR. Joint 2nd -RFactor2 UI stinks in 2D or VR but the actual in car experience is brilliant in VR, be it Le Mans or Formula E the VR experience is amazing once settings tweaked. Its that tweaking which is the PITA but a VR hud from steam workshop and some in game settings changes and boom you got a fun albeit extremely clunky sim to use. -AC In VR, AC is great with a massive caveat. It is perhaps down in 'RF2 UI nightmare' when playing in VR until like RF2 you are sat in the car. Menus still a bit funky and like or perhaps even more so than RF2 needs tweaking. Get CM in with shader patch, get sol added and AC is bloody amazing. Just requires the work and it should be noted for newbies that work is a pita. Even the sol manual isn't a complete step by step of how to get it to work. Its a mess and requires discord chats, forum posts etc to learn how to make it work from start to racing finish. Joint 3rd Everything else that is VR cabable. ACC works for me in sim cockpit OK, But its not like I am viewing replays in VR with it, it is solely the in cockpit experience as soon as race is done turn off VR and restart in 2d to view stuff lol.
I know is early access still and VR implementation is great, but you have some cars your avatar legs are going through the seat, when you shift a sequential car the driver's hand will not go near the shifter and you'll see it move on its own and other cars the driver will disappear and reappear as I move my head around. Some cars just work perfectly fine but the game still needs a lot of polish. Let's hope we get some of that by Ver 1.0 games seam to be in a eternal early access these days, even when they are at "full release"
My PC will not handle VR - but I'm glad to hear AMS2 is handling it well. Also, was this video just another excuse to show off how much fun the Low Powered Prototypes are in AMS2 - been in a few public lobbies this evening with them, and they're an absolute riot.
So long as a game has some sort of ffb that gets gradually stronger or weaker as you get to the limit you can use that to know how close to the limit you are. Different Sims seem to do it differently I always set up ffb at first to get as much feel/FFB info from a SIM and then I add filtering and dampening to make it smoother and less jumpy.
I am relatively new to sim racing and I am fascinated with how you are controlling the cars balance through the corner with the pedals. Looks like your trail breaking but then start the weight transfer from relaxing the brake by pumping the gas through the apex before staring to lift the brake and get on the gas. Do you have any videos on this technique you can point me to?
Wouldn't mind to see a Head2Head of what is the VR sim of 2020. Though like you mention in the video iRacing, AC and AMS2 are likely to take such a crown. I quite like Raceroom in VR as well, even if I have to lean on ASW quite a bit there.
Great sim for VR and totally agree on how VR helps you drive smoother or feel the rotation better. Do you have a guide on AC shader pack install? Im keen to try that in VR since it runs well on my 1070ti
GM how is AMS2's DD wheel setup? I own a Sim-Plicity SW8C+, which pretty much worked out of the box with both AC and ACC, but is almost unusable with PC2, even with custom FFB files. I'm tempted to buy AMS2 as a "fun racer" besides ACC, but at the same time I'm concerned I'll getting stuck for hours with FFB tweaks again.
I have to totally agree with you GM - but the main thing is that I can't quite put my finger on why this Sim is just so much FUN to play. There's that strange "intangible" thing it has, that all great Sim & Simcade er, um, Sims have, that makes it such a joy to fire up again & again. P.S. You must be rapt to be able to continually come 7th in yet another fantastic Sim... ;D
Hey, GM, have you given it a go in the index? I refunded after getting really poor image quality at 120hz. I didn't have enough time to fully try everything but it seemed like there was some automatic AA or undersampling that was giving me insane shimmering. I would be really interested in that comparison video you mentioned.
I take it this game isn't giving you motion sickness? I tried VR in racing titles for the first time this weekend and I've spent most of said weekend lying in the foetal position. I'm using the Rift S and have tried Dirt 2.0 and Assetto Corsa.
Does the resolution set in game if running VR matter? It feels like no, but it also feels like if it’s a different resolution the computer will have to up or down scale which will take some toll on performance (since it’s displaying on a monitor, either windowed or full screen, while in VR).
I’m still in the queue to buy an Index so would like to see more about that system before I pull the trigger. Also would like your thoughts on PC specs. I’m ready to switch from console but cant bring myself to place an order what with the impending release of new GPU’s from Nvidia. Budget for PC is £3-3.5K cheers
Hugo Bokhorst thanks for your reply, its really helpful. I’ve yet to race on a PC let alone in VR but I see so many reviewers saying that they have to turn the graphics settings down, is this down to the CPU’s or GPU’s they’re using. I was looking at i9 9900 with 2080ti 32gb 3200RAM when I look at recommended game specs it seems more than enough, but then I watch sim racing VR reviews where it doesn’t appear to be. Hence me hanging on a while for the release of the new CPU’s and GPU’s coming soon.
I think racing games are the best fit for vr so far.. reduced FOV compared to real life + headset height makes you feel like wearing a helmet you don't need to weirdly move around using thumbsticks..
Is this game better graphic wise than Project Cars 2? I have been playing PC2 and the graphics in VR are terrible - shimmering and aliasing is almost too much to play the game so looking for something to replace it. Thanks.
Assetto Corsa Competizione was awful in VR, then I tried it again recently because of all the e-sports stuff going on and since patch v1.4 its now very playable. The only game that makes me queasy is Dirt Rally because of all the sliding. I'm using a Rift S and find long stints in DCS World no problem but not tried doing long races, the beauty of VR in flight sims is that if the optics start to fog up which can happen on these warm days then you can put the autopilot on the clean them off 😀
Yah if you got the space and dedicated pc and dedicated rig and fast enough computer and money for 3 gaming screens then triple screen works well. In 2D I'm quite happy with a single ultra wide though.
Moving to a new house very soon. So space is not a problem anymore. But tbh if your PC can run rift s it should be able to do triple screen's too. I think vr is more taxing.
@@TinoushGTR No. Three screens is more taxing than VR, even when you use 1080 resolution monitors, but you notice it less because FPS smoothness is much less of a problem in 2D. In VR it is much better to use ASW with locked 40/45 fps than having the game do fps spikes all over. In 2D fps jumps are much less noticeable and so you can usually go higher with settings even when the resolution is more demanding.
I had big hopes for AMS2 but there are problems with AMS2 changing registry settings or something like that with logitech wheels. I play with G25 and after installing and playing AMS my FFB settings in AC (which is my main sim) were totally messed up and i couldn't change it back/get it to how it was before. Had to lower FFB gain in AC by like 25%. Can't have AMS2 messing up my other sims/FFB so had to uninstall and refund unfortunately.
next, races with subs in VR... if your brain can handle it, I think locked to horizon 100% (no world movement and no camera shake) is nicer to watch on YT. :)
Automobilista 2 was an horrible experience in VR. Right at the beginning I got Motion Sickness, something thaht I haven't experience since a long time. I can drive RaceRoom or iRacing for 2 hours without any problems at all. Performance was good in Automobilista 2 in VR but something feels totally wrong. After one hour of testing I got my refund from steam. Second time I got a refund for Automobilista. Perhaps automobilista 3 will be working. Physics is weird s well
what a hypocrite! For YEARS you have noted how better trees make sim better, now 2d trees are "ok!" unsub, unlike uninstall your computer from the planet! 3d trees matter!
Vr is not the best way for sim racing. In 10 years maby. In the moment it's way to small fov and looks bad. Machines also need more power for proper vr
The FOV is larger than vast majorty of screens , it offers full 3D + head tracking is cheaper and less effort than large tripple screen setup and alows for a 1-1 real world scale. If you want to feel like you are sat in a car it is the best way for simracing.
This game probably suck. No one will play it, only people that still play am1. Like why would you pick this game over other games. No license is shit game.

I play all my driving in VR (My rig is not facing monitors) I know unpopular but ive managed to even get ACC working OK in VR thanks to a 2080Ti lol. But anyway for ease of get in and go with the Index for me personally its;
Joint 1st
-PCars2
-AMS2
VR is about the same as PCars2, great choice of cars, one is more arcade one is more real, VR around the same just the dogs dangles of download and play and look amazing in 2d and VR.
Joint 2nd
-RFactor2
UI stinks in 2D or VR but the actual in car experience is brilliant in VR, be it Le Mans or Formula E the VR experience is amazing once settings tweaked. Its that tweaking which is the PITA but a VR hud from steam workshop and some in game settings changes and boom you got a fun albeit extremely clunky sim to use.
-AC
In VR, AC is great with a massive caveat.
Joint 3rd
Everything else that is VR cabable. ACC works for me in sim cockpit OK, But its not like I am viewing replays in VR with it, it is solely the in cockpit experience as soon as race is done turn off VR and restart in 2d to view stuff lol.
I think you should be on tv because you have the voice that engages people!
And you cannot see the best part of VR on a video: stereoscopic 3D largely free of artifacts.
My Lenovo explorer works very well in this game-picture clear,SDE almost invisible.
Inverted left foot sock.... hmmm... will try this too I should cut my lap times by a second or two... thanks for the tip buddy!
I can't trust a man in white socks
Do I need the steering wheel for this VR game? If not, can I use my hands floating in air (on steering in VR)? Thanks!
What gives you a good feel for how much grip you have going into the corner when doing Sim Racing? Certain FF setup?
Thanks and all the best!
So long as a game has some sort of ffb that gets gradually stronger or weaker as you get to the limit you can use that to know how close to the limit you are.
Different Sims seem to do it differently
I always set up ffb at first to get as much feel/FFB info from a SIM and then I add filtering and dampening to make it smoother and less jumpy.
@@GamerMuscleVideos Thank you very much!
I love the P4 class. Last update I can't get the steering set up the way I want so hoping the next update will bring it back to where it was.
Try Simhub with the rumble turned on for the V3 pedals. It helps with the brake feel going into corners and slide coming out of corners.
Still running the original rift. Looking to upgrade soon, but thinking of waiting for the new HP this Fall. Still not sure though
I can’t race out of vr. I’m not great in it either but vr is just mint. Iracing runs pretty well for me.
Looks awesome, thanks for the video GM! It looks more "realistic" than PC2 somehow? Or is that just me?
Awesome video, as always; but the question is ... what does the grass look like? 😊
I take it this game isn't giving you motion sickness? I tried VR in racing titles for the first time this weekend and I've spent most of said weekend lying in the foetal position. I'm using the Rift S and have tried Dirt 2.0 and Assetto Corsa.
Only got though 1:30 before he put on the gloves! Did you wash them?
Does the resolution set in game if running VR matter? It feels like no, but it also feels like if it’s a different resolution the computer will have to up or down scale which will take some toll on performance (since it’s displaying on a monitor, either windowed or full screen, while in VR).
I’m still in the queue to buy an Index so would like to see more about that system before I pull the trigger. Also would like your thoughts on PC specs. I’m ready to switch from console but cant bring myself to place an order what with the impending release of new GPU’s from Nvidia. Budget for PC is £3-3.5K cheers
For that kind of budget, you'll be fine.
I think racing games are the best fit for vr so far..
reduced FOV compared to real life + headset height makes you feel like wearing a helmet
you don't need to weirdly move around using thumbsticks..
Hey GM love your work. Could you also include the Oculus Quest with link cable in any possible up and coming vr comparison review.
Is this game better graphic wise than Project Cars 2? I have been playing PC2 and the graphics in VR are terrible - shimmering and aliasing is almost too much to play the game so looking for something to replace it. Thanks.
happy tea drinking
Assetto Corsa Competizione was awful in VR, then I tried it again recently because of all the e-sports stuff going on and since patch v1.4 its now very playable. The only game that makes me queasy is Dirt Rally because of all the sliding. I'm using a Rift S and find long stints in DCS World no problem but not tried doing long races, the beauty of VR in flight sims is that if the optics start to fog up which can happen on these warm days then you can put the autopilot on the clean them off 😀
Project Cars 2.5 works in VR shocker. I can't race 2D any more, the depth perception is must for me now.
What does the grass look like? can you see the textures, and the breeze wafting the indidvidual blades gently?
You've got a bit of dust on that mate...
If you get a cheap £17 racing wheel and act headset it could compare to a g29 without vr
Vr is cool but I'm still building my aluminum rig with triple 32 inch screens. Vr is for short runs for me.
Left sock inside out :D
I had big hopes for AMS2 but there are problems with AMS2 changing registry settings or something like that with logitech wheels. I play with G25 and after installing and playing AMS my FFB settings in AC (which is my main sim) were totally messed up and i couldn't change it back/get it to how it was before. Had to lower FFB gain in AC by like 25%.
Can't have AMS2 messing up my other sims/FFB so had to uninstall and refund unfortunately.
You're a little bit weird you know
I cant look at another racing sim in VR without being reminded about how sad ACC vr made me lol
Do the banana mod in AC in VR!!! haha
next, races with subs in VR... if your brain can handle it, I think locked to horizon 100% (no world movement and no camera shake) is nicer to watch on YT. :)
One thing that anoys me is that the trees turn as you are passing them in VR
Ps by the way, any idea when we'll see version 1.0?? They said mid June, damn covids fault
the socks adds an extra 40 HP
I really hope this comes on PS5 with PSVR 2.0
Does anyone feel that when in VR the ffb feels different in sims, or is it just me?
The only thing I didnt like in the video is the low sound of the game, but I like the video
Come on Muscle !! If you putting the gloves put some racing boots for goodness sake :(
Automobilista 2 was an horrible experience in VR. Physics is weird s well
Quality is definitely not the same as in Project Cars 2, Its significantly better. I wouldn't touch PC2 in VR.
Unlisted video hmmmmmmm
@1:30 nice flex
Yes VR Yes Buy😍
VR or GTFOH. /end
When Assetto Corsa gets its final piece de resistance, better trees, automobilista 2 won't stand a chance.
Does Automobilista 2 have good trees?
Car detail is no where near ACC or Ac, step out of the car and look at the model.... average at best, probably why it runs so smooth
what a hypocrite! For YEARS you have noted how better trees make sim better, now 2d trees are "ok!" unsub, unlike uninstall your computer from the planet! 3d trees matter!
Trees are important but grass is where its really at and the grass in ams2 is ok 👍
@@GamerMuscleVideos just stop driving on it and keep it nice :D
Vr is not the best way for sim racing. In 10 years maby. In the moment it's way to small fov and looks bad. Machines also need more power for proper vr
The FOV is larger than vast majorty of screens , it offers full 3D + head tracking is cheaper and less effort than large tripple screen setup and alows for a 1-1 real world scale. If you want to feel like you are sat in a car it is the best way for simracing.
This game probably suck. No one will play it, only people that still play am1. Like why would you pick this game over other games. No license is shit game.
You don't pick anything over something, you clown. You just add this great game to your library of racing games. The more good games the better.
Problem is, if you want a good VR experience, that looks as good as project cars, just buy/play project cars, it has more, arguably better content.
Because handling and force feedback of AMS 2 is miles better. Just a much more enjoyable driving experience.
AMS2 is far far better. I’ve played both loads .
PC2 is super cheesy, simcade
Vr is dead. No one uses it anymore
