The Burgundy looks cheap in videos, however in person, looks so great!!! It's my favorite of them all in terms of looks. The Gold with the fark Burgundy, is so beautiful! Camera don't do it justice!!!
The Kaweco Sport was my first fountain pen! I have 3 now: 2 plastic and one Al-Sport. I think I will buy a brass or bronze sport and then my collection will be complete.
I have the brass Sport and a couple of Liliputs (the flamed blue and brass), plus a Big Ideas EDC, and a couple other fountain pens that I'd loosely lump together as "pants pocket pens." I think the reason the CF version of the Sport might be languishing on the retailers' shelves a little is that the EDC-pen market is currently pretty saturated. There are dozens of these tiny options, plus many more vintage options like the Waterman's 52v/52 1/2v, and, for me, it's a question of, "How many pockets pens do you need?" Americans, generally speaking, are getting bigger in every dimension, not smaller. I'm -- like the DB-Dude -- a big guy, so these tiny pens are fun for quick notes on the run (and great conversation starters), but not serious journaling or work/production pens. Thanks for the great pen content, plus forays into laser-etching, etc.
On the other hand, I totally understand, why all people have a collection of Kaweco Sports. After I got my first one, same happened to me, and I only owned an old Parker Vector, that never hard starts, never skips, when my Kaweco does both. Still a great pen, writes better than the Vector and has a better design overall. Looks is also a serious factor, when we buy stuff...
Yeah I've seen that one but just doens't do it for me LOL Perhaps Im just too picky. I l love everything about the sport but just a bit more size (especially in the girth) would be awesome
I purchased my first - and only to date - Kaweco sport at the end of 2022, Iridescent Pearl with medium nib. Good looking pen. Turned it into an eyedropper. I was surprised to discover that it was an amazing writer. Very smooth, a pleasure to use. With that said, I found myself becoming increasingly annoyed every time I had to unscrew it to use it. No issue for long writing sessions but not so great for small notes or the occasional scribble. I still use it, but only when I know I’m going to be writing for more than a few seconds. In regard to it being a pocket pen, I’ve always been leery of carrying a fountain pen around in my pocket. I work with a guy who does it all the time. Seems to work fine for him but I don’t trust them not to leak over the long term. Case in point, my eyedropper Kaweco Sport burped in my pen case, creating quite a mess. I suppose a cartridge would eliminate that problem but then I’d have to deal with the limited ink capacity. First world problems, I know.
Eyedropper in a pocket is a no go for me. But one with a converter or cartridge no problems at all. I have one in my pocket almost all the time and no issues at all.
I would love to see a Kaweco Sport "XL" version from Kaweco. Slightly longer and a bit wider along the barrel and grip. It would have to open up an even greater market for them.
I have been looking for a modern flex nib pen to practice my Copperplate (Declaration of Independence font and style). At present, I use a FrankenPen Waterman I had made for me. Unfortunately, that pen is a sac filled pen and is a pain to clean and maintain. The nib on my Waterman is second to none. But is it worth all the trouble with having to replace and glue a new sac in? Not really. The Good Blue sounds like a great replacement but I have to see it write. (your last non-narrated video showed how the pen writes a little). I am confused by the website's non description of their nibs. Thanks DB!
Blesket has been busy sending you pens! A bit too racy for me, my brass and Classic are small but write wonderfully. My only beef was that it was a bit hit and miss to find nib sizes I liked. All were smooth as bitter, but pretty wet.
Your red Kaweco AC sport has a nice firetruck, bright Ferrari red. Mine has a faint, Magenta hue. But I bought mine 5 years ago. I wonder if Kaweco slightly changed the hue of red recently.
The extra weight of the AL makes such a difference for me. I've got a couple plastic sports, a couple AL sports, and a brass sport, and the AL is the sweet spot - the brass is too heavy for me; as soon as I tested it I knew I'd be getting rid of it. I'm keeping the iridescent plastic one since it's so pretty, but eventually I'm selling off the other plastic ones and the brass one. My purple AL Sport is my EDCish one (I only take it when I know I'll be writing - there are a few ballpoint rattling around in my bag that are technically more EDC but whatever_)
If you are tKing suggestions, in your next airplane tests, I would like to see a metal kaweco in the mix. I have the brass and am curious how it will perform
Heard from someone on another video that Kaweco is supposed to make a new piston filler. Hope it's bigger than most of their other pens. I love the Bronze and Brass sports, but they seem too small for my hands.
Yeah the seem to like to design small pens, which is ok for me. But for me they need to be a bit thicker. Interested to see what the piston will be like
@@Doodlebud Have you tried the supra? I thought about getting one but wasn't sure on if it was big enough. Your hands seem like about the same as mine so when I can I try to compare from your videos on how the pen looks for my hand.
1. Have you looked at the Kaweco Special? Close to being a Big Boy Sport. Not really a pocket pen, though. 2. I have largish hands but also a weird grip, where I hold the body against the side of the forefinger, not back in the web, so I'm fine with little pens like the Sport.
How about making a video about the longest in production Fountain Pens. We have: Mont Blanc 149 Meisterstuck (since 1924) Parker 51 (since 1941) Pelikan Pelikano (since 1960) Pilot Capless (since 1964) Lamy 2000 (since 1966) Aurora Hastil (since 1970) SIX fountain pens being in production for so long means absolute quality and satisfaction.
Would be tricky for me as I would need all those specific pens. Also I'm not the best with the history of things. This would be a good video for someone like Grandmia Pens to do
I have the AL sport in the same color as yours. Ended up giving it to my daughter because it was too small for me. When you do the good blue review, could you try on different paper? I'm curious if the nib can tear stuff
My Skyline Sport is my favourite pen of all, but obviously YMMV. I'm not attracted by the AC look, as it seems a bit forced, if you know what I mean. And if you want a slightly larger version of the Kaweco Sport, what about the recently launched Original?
It's surprising with all the special editions that Kaweco bring out for the Sport that they don't just make a "Plus Size" Sport. Same looking pen but just a little bit bigger with a size 6 nib, maybe even just big enough for a full sized cartridge. I can imagine that they would sell quite a lot.
Do you find that your Kaweco belches ink before it settles down and writes nicely? I have 2 Kaweco pens & have this issue with both of them. I usually do a dummy run on scrap paper before they write normally. Once they get going they’re fine. Great video thank you. D
dude as always....the kaweco is not a big pen, but in your hands it looks miniscule!! lol... you put me off so many pens man...not cause of bad reviews but cause some of them look so tiny in your hands!!... and i also prefer a bigger pen. good review as always
This...or a Namisu N2 in AL for just $50 on sale right now or in Titanium for just $125, and it comes with a Bock #6 nib unit? Not that Kaweco doesn't make a good pen...but compared to other pens at the same price point, they are objectively up against better options. The N2 doesn't screw on/off, so no threading issues...and with a #6 Bock unit, you could easily swap to a nib not offered by Kaweco, and without needing to send it to a nibmeister. The Sports are a great series, I own 2 (one brass, one Iridscent Pearl) but I don't think there's an objectively compelling case for these being *better* than other pens...they are just very popular. It's just such a common recommendation as a "not too expensive" entry model that doesn't suck, and works well for most people on the go. I know people love and collect them like crazy, but unless you just have a thing for Kaweco, it's important to keep in mind that most popular ≠ best. Other than the color and the material, the design doesn't vary much...and there are so many other companies out there making pens every bit as good. Love your channel, and looking forward to seeing what fun new things you try with all your new toys, especially the laser. (Multi-colored thermochromic finishes? YES PLEASE!)
