Got a question for you pros . I am a trim carpenter . I was building a new hand rail and staircase in a really nice house . It was just me and my crew doing some windows and staircase and remodel of two fireplaces . Painters came in too paint all of the . Super nice oak . Base/case door jambs . Crown chair rail . Kitchen cabs and island . As it was all stained and finished . We left for a week let them have the house . Came back and the finish is cracking bad . U can run your hands across the wood work now and it feels like 400 grit . But the cracking and etc is BAD . Bad bad bad bad

I over head the painters and home owners talking . Painter said . There is a product. That they can spray on over lacquer . So they wouldn’t haft to use lacquer again . As home owners . Left for a week . They don’t want to leave again cause I know it’s a whole re paint . I guess my question is . Is there any such product .

The mask tip is very helpful, nothing worse then using the daily mask and it carries a stank. I usually wash mine with soap and water, but the rubbing alcohol trick looks faster with a reassurance of being disinfected.

Graphite dust does not come from the hinges wearing against each other. It’s there because we use graphite power as a lubricant for the hinges. It’s simply lubricant that has worked itself out of the hinges over many opening and closing cycles.

  • @johnd9357
    @johnd9357 3 роки тому +1

The black dust is absolutely not from the hinges wearing. The black dust is graphite lubricant used when the doors were installed. Dry graphite in powder form is a common lubricant for doors and locks. You don’t want to use a wet lube because dust sticks to it and will get very grimy after a while.

    Great Channel by the way!!!
One thing I would add to the hinge is to clean it before lubing it. I clean the pin with a paper towel and then spray inside the hinge with a fast-drying degreaser. Make sure to protect everything around the hinge before spraying. Then lube up the pin with a thin coat of lube. This way the hinge pins will last longer and you will not have to go back next year to add more lube because of all the metal in the lube wearing out your door hinge.

I’m hoping you’ll see this, maybe maybe not, but what type of sprayer would you recommend for painting moulding? Mainly base, crown, and shoe. I currently use a Wagner hand sprayer but it’s difficult to get a good finish. There are usually tiny bumps here and there that I have to sand down and touch up.
I’m looking to upgrade to a better spray system so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Years ago, I found it a nightmare trying to caulk with latex and especially silicone. The bead would be a mess and it was all over my hands. Those bead tools are a gimmick as well.
One day, when I was in the plumbing store complaining about messy caulking jobs, a plumber overheard heard me.
The plumber said to make a good bead, then squirt diluted dish soap from a small squirt bottle over the bead. Then pull the bead towards you with your index finger. I usually squirt my index finger as well.
The result is a clean smooth bead that doesn't stick to anywhere else.
Since then, I have been caulking toilets, sinks, tubs, window trim, baseboard, or anywhere you want a clean bead.
My beads look better than most professionals.

While spraying exterior latex with a Graco X7 & 515 tip the addition of a 12” extension to the gun caused both spiting at trigger release and paint dripping from the tip. Removing the extension and using the same tip directly on the gun stopped both issues. The paint is a high quality PPG Sun Proof, fresh, strained and well mixed. All accessories are Graco. Pressure (no gauge) was just high enough to prevent ‘tails’. Suggestions?

Hey man I've been following your channel for a few months,i am a painting contractor in New England Massachusetts and New Hampshire to to be exact, the houses and exteriors we our painting are a lot different then houses in Idaho or I would believe there is no stucco out here. A lot of old Victorian 3 deckers, it seems like you work on some very nice homes and you seem to have a quick turnaround with your crew. You're smart for that to have the two guys I seen the videos with you all the times I can't remember your names but I can tell you know that they are able paint like you and me doing their own thing you can trust them and then new hires some Young Guns and teach them trade and can pay them fairly cheap money to you but it's still way better money to them compared to what they make at McDonald's and they're learning a trade in the process. I commend you for that that's awesome. We have a lot in common and I've been thinking about buying that $120 paintbrush ever since that video LOL I just wish it was 3 inch flat or angled. Another question I had is you said you normally use BBQ Grill cleaners to clean your paint brushes instead of the normal say Purdy iron brush you could get it any local Sherwin-Williams. Is it the width of it in the handle Leverage with the length of the BBQ cleaner? I suppose also the brushes are a little shorter in Langston don't bend out like normal brushes do overtime. Just a funny question I had when I heard you say it. Just wanted to let you know I'm a fan I didn't remember your name please put it in the reply if you do, like I said I'm out of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, a little different Exteriors, but your interior methods are a mirror to mine LOL. To be running this channel on doing well like you are and have your successful business your hard driven hard worker like myself. I commend you for bringing the camera out to the paint world so people can see who you think it's easy, like you said there's a shortage of real professional painters such as myself you and your few Journeymen you have with you. So now you're getting a UA-cam check on top of your contracts made you must be killing it congratulations on your success I'm sure a lot of young people looking to start a pink company and looking for some Pro tips, or just average person painting their house your videos are going to get the views over any other painting videos not only do you give better advice due to your position, but you explain it to where anyone with no experience could understand. Hats off to you man bank account must look nice LOL. Just pay those two guys I always seen the videos with you top dollar they deserve it and you're making good money on the paint business as well as you to business. And their skill-set looks pretty dialed nothing you have to look after, and that is hard to find you want to keep them and treat them good because they know what type of money of pulling in. LOL I'm just saying that to bust your balls from show you paid them a great hourly wage for their work and they seem to really like doing the little videos with you as well

Your word stumbles are what make you so fun to watch. I worry all your new UA-cam training and editing will remove what makes you so down to earth and real. It's your hook.

I've recently moved into a new home. I find the preparation before painting (cleaning and taping) harder than the actual painting. Cleaning up afterwards is no fun either. Painting is a hard job, I've learned that.

When using aqua filler on oak cabinets I understand. Are you sanding then aqua fill, do you restrain? And what are you using for water barrier? Spray with or brush polyurethane or lacquer?

What are paint quotas. ie. How many doors and Jamba should one person brush and roll. How fast does a door take to mask.
Important to know what is expected of my employees. So when you are done with them. They know what is expected from them. Ie. Takes 1:20 minutes to mask a window.

On #2, I use a punch and hammer. No need to buy an $11 tool. And I use a silicone spray which will last a really long time.
