- Welcome to Part 5 in our 5 part series exploring the shards of Alara in Magic: The Gathering's Multiverse. This episode highlights the stagnant, poisoned, and choked shard of Grixis where death and decay are in abundance and where demonic overlord rule the wretched.

alara is a reason I really like the mtg world building style, cause its using the rules and alignments of the color wheel in such a fun way by just removing a couple from the shard, making it its own mini world of weirdness
I really enjoyed this series exploring all the Shards of Alara. I'd love to see a similar deep dive on all the factions of Tarkir.
I can see why someone would want to live on Naya or Bant. I can even see it on Esper though life would be hard. I can even envision the kind of reckless fool who'd find Jund paradise. But man, I can't see why ANYONE would want to live on Grixis. The place is basically hell.
Grixis is honest.
Who tf would want to live on Jund either lmao
Really, really twisted people
Grixis is the unfiltered truth of life. It's humanity at it's core. In truth, morality and traditions is meaningless in the face of power.
Similar to Innistrad, I'd imagine New Phyrexia trying to invade Grixis would be bad comedy.
lol grixis is phyrexia without the metal and desire for unity
@@christopherlucas9118 so, Phyrexia without everything that defines it, then?
“Oooo, new corpses” -Literally everyone on Grixis
If I were any threat in the multiverse, I would just stay away from Innistrad. Those mfers have survived everything
ELDRAZI INVADING NEW PHYREXIA
I really appreciate how you go into the art and flavor text of the cards, as well as the lore.
I find “the same energy is recycled” quite ironic with green’s theme of Life, death and reincarnation thing.
Meanwhile Black is all about staying alive as long as possible. Black should have the Lifelink keyword since Black is about immortality and not dying despite having kill spells.
Man. I loved playing grixis control in modern back in the day.
4 cryptic command, 4 kolaghan’s command and 4 snapcaster mage.
That was a fun deck.
Man, the more I see of alara's art the more I want to see.
Grixis... Home.
Sounds like a great vacation spot!
Grixis is my fav of the shards. An ecosystem without life, is fasinating
Llorwyn!
Shandalar!
Dominaria!
Mercadia!
Rath!
Kamigawa!
Anything, just keep it up! Love your content!
Thank you so much for the in-depth analysis of Alura! Might I suggest the other three-color plane, namely Tarkir as your batch of lore videos? Excellent plot, cool characters, and really good cards make this memorable block one of my favorites. Thanks again for your videos as your explanations and narrations really help put story context to the cards. Your channel is a hidden gem on UA-cam, so happy I have it on my subscription feed!
I needed this episode. I built a bolas deck. And that's why I was sooooo interested in the bolas story.
I love the art in these cards!
Golden age of mtg art for me
@@TheLorebrarians indeed, 2001-2012
Considering white is my best and primary color, I like Bant best. But black is a distant second for colors, so Grixis is kinda cool.
Great series, looking forward to more!
Glad you enjoyed!
I'm definitely a jund fan
Grixis is too scary of a shard for me to want to visit 😬
Grixis is the homie. I hope you showed an adequate level of deference in the video.
yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaa boyyy you done did a good'un this time
Awesome 👍👍👍 This was my favorite shard.
Very grand and bombastic music for this shard 😂
I heard dregscape and was instantly reminded of the sliver. I saw the dregscape zombie, and thats when it clicked.
They return from extinction, the first sliver reborn, cascading in a new brood. Exalted and unearthed, my hope is that we get an abzan and grixis partner with sliver, so we can have "slivers your team control have x" in the new 5 colour sliver deck, and it can be a fun deck to turn into 2 for two headed giant.
YESSSSSS I was waiting for this!!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Love the work man! Especially the deep dive into these color philosophies, Will we be getting the clans of Tarkir? :P
It's in the works. But then there are the guilds of Ravinca.
Ah yes, yet another plane that makes black equal Evil. Awesome video!
Esper, Selesnya, and Grixis 🔥🔥🔥
Why would vampires want to hang around there? They must be starving.
This is a SERIOUS SERIES 😉
now that you went through Alara, you ought to go through the lore of MTG's Khans of Tarkir and the 5 clans, along with the time shift changes!!!
As Alara finished, I like to hear about Tarkir
we need a return to alara man asap
Hell yeah!
Where is the art from at 1:27
These are my colors man let’s gooooooo!
Now that the series is complete here are three more video ideas that you can use after this series:
One: what would a plane that's centered around one color but properly assimilated the other four would look like and what types of societies would be born from them? I'm referring about planes like the shards of alara but ones that also had the main color's enemies in it and that all four of the side colors mainly help and balance out the goals of the centered color while limiting it's negatives. Like a W centered plane were the positive aspects of each color enhances and add their touches to the goals and desires of W in their own ways while still having enough room to do their own things as long as it doesn't go against the values of W. And that each of the other colors positive aspects, specially the enemy colors (R,B), limit/stop the negative more harmful aspects of W.
Two: Five Planeswalker characters with each of them centered around one color but that also properly assimilated the other four into their personalities and ways of doing things. Basically the same as the last idea but in terms of an individual person.
Three: what would five Wedge colored Legendary Dominarian dragons, like Bolas and Chromium, would be? Specifically ones who's main colors are the enemy color of each of their color combinations. How would they look and what personalities they would have? My personal theory on one of these is that Ugun was originally a Blue centered Temur dragon before becoming a spirit dragon
Are you going to do a sort of short summary with all 5 shards being the focus?
Oh wait, description says 5 of 5, never mind
My favorite shard is definitly esper just for the art, and I think etherium is cool lore wise with how it's conencted to the Aether and the transhumanism is cool as well.
In terms of which shard I would want to live in if I had to choose one It'd be esper or Bant. Grixis is literally hell and Jund is borderline hell and I'd just die. So definitely not those. Naya while not as bad as jund has a high chance of being eaten and I don't think I'd be exactly well adapted to farming or being a hunter, so def would be some beasts snack so pass. Both bant and esper really suck on an individuality standpoint, Bant sucks less if born into the right caste(or just living in Jhess I guess) while Esper sucks less if you are smart and or talented in magic/artifice. I guess I'd lean esper because I'm a STEM major so would be more likely to succede as an Esperite than on bant
But honestly every shard feels dystopian in someway probably because of how unbalanced they are
Grixis is the best representation of humanity. Laws give an illusion regulation when power is the definition of true control. Traditions rob you of individuality and limits your potential. Grixis is a world where corrupt leaders decide the lives of many, where the poor and homeless wander neglected, where there is no strength in meekness. Sound familiar? It's our world in real life, just without the illusions and sweet talk that we tell ourselves to convince us we're a good person. Truth is, deep down, man is selfish and self-seeking; and if that isn't you, then you'll be dead like the rest soon. Grixis is a world without the coddling and mercies that cater to the weak. A world that is truly free.
This is why Grixis is my favorite. It is honest.
Oh man I'm not going to grixis is the demon and undead turf.
WHAT ABOUT SULTAIIIII
Obligatory 1st
Hey second comment
You know the feeling when one of your limbs falls asleep for a long time, and blood finally returns to it? I imagine that's what it must have been like on Grixis during the Conflux.
