    I am 57 now and am considering a move to Vietnam. I have a BS in exercise kinesiology and a master's degree in school counseling and also teach a middle school health class with about 15 years of teaching/ counseling experience. Is that seen as a plus compared to other applicants even if it isn't teaching English? Is 60y.o. a mandatory retirement age in Vietnam or simply when you are eligible? Also, can this lead to permanent residency if I am interested in retirement there? Thanks for the videos!

    Option 3 does sound the best. Can you provide any reasons why someone should take your in-person TEFL course instead of an in-person CELTA?
    Considering they cost a similar amount, both are offered in Ho Chi Minh City, and both take four weeks each?
    I’m trying to choose between the two right now. Do companies much prefer one over the other? Does one command a higher salary? Or is that all overblown?

    • @ninja.teacher
      @ninja.teacher  11 місяців тому +4

      The CELTA is very Eurocentric, has not been updated for many years, focuses on adult teaching (despite some claiming otherwise) and the teaching practicum is with adult learners. Our course is contextually relevant to the market in Asia, regularly updated, has a large focus on teaching young learners (which is 90% of the market in Vietnam) and the teaching practicum includes classes with young learners as well as adults in real schools in Vietnam.
      We also provide additional pre-departure and in-country support when moving to Vietnam, such as in-country orientation, events etc which the CELTA doesn't.
      We have a good reputation with the top schools in Vietnam and our graduates get job offers from these schools. I won't make any claims about which is preferred which we can't substantiate, but in my experience first-time teachers will be offered similar salaries coming off our course as a CELTA, so I'd make your decision based on which one you believe suits your goals better. Hope that helps!

    • @ninja.teacher
      @ninja.teacher  Рік тому +1

      We offer discounted rates for those who have taken an online TEFL to upgrade to our in-person training with job placement in Vietnam. We don't offer any programs for assisting people with securing online teaching work though - that market is a quite saturated.

  • @mattd3826
    @mattd3826 Рік тому

    One thing I still don't understand is method 2. I've often heard this is the best method, but I have no idea how it works logistically. Does one apply for jobs online before flying to Vietnam? And then just linger in VN until they hear back from a company who wants to set up an interview? Because if I fly there now and plan a 3-4 week itinerary, how can I be sure I am in the right city at the right time for the different jobs I applied for online? It's not like they will reply within 1 or 2 days of submitting the application, right?
    Also, do you think you will bring back the TEFL fast track course? I've had my online TEFL for a few months but have been stuck trying to figure out the logistics of the trip/job application/document notarization/apostillization process, etc. Thanks!

    • @ninja.teacher
      @ninja.teacher  Рік тому

      You'd fly to Vietnam then send out your resume once you're here, then set up in-person interviews once schools get back to you. Schools usually do reply within a few days if you're in-country, ready to start and they have openings. It's best to focus one city like HCMC / Hanoi with this route.
      We aren't running our fast track anymore for the time being, as it was difficult to pack all the training into a 2 week program, and it's harder to guarantee results for people who took online TEFLs with varying degrees of quality. That's why we're now offering a discounted rate for anyone who's taken an online TEFL to upgrade to our 4 week Vietnam TEFL Program so that we can help with all the documents, in-country orientation, classroom training, teaching practicum and guaranteed job placement.

It involves pre-departure guidance, in-country orientation, in-class training, teaching practicum and guaranteed job placement. We used to offer a stripped down job placement program but it wasn’t viable - we need the whole month to get people job ready so that we can guarantee a teaching job. How to get better salaries? Does Vietnam require notarization and authentication for degrees like china does?

    • @fs5775
      @fs5775 Рік тому +4

      Yes on notarization and verification. And I am in the middle of this process now. I was teaching in China previously and just accepted a position in Vietnam and I start next month. Process is very similar, Vietnam is a bit less... extreme than China in the verification. Probably because they don't assume all foreigners entering the country are dangerous spies.

      @@spaniardxxxiii2801 I'm teaching university and my employer has an agent who's taking care of notarization & authentication so I don't know too many of the details, sorry. I just know the process has been much quicker and easier for Vietnam and I even had an agent with China too. Each country needs to do their own process of authentication & verification. But the process for both countries is similar. They don't care my docs have been verified by China. They want them verified by Vietnam now (degree certificate, previous employment letter, police check, medical test, passport pages)

    • @ninja.teacher

      The retirement age in Vietnam is 60 for men and 55 for women so typically you need to be below that age to get a work permit to work legally in Vietnam.

      It’s uncommon, as it takes time to onboard and bring new teachers up to speed so they offer longer term contracts.
