Hey! I've taught English in South Korea for 2 years and it's riddled with shady English Academies. It's recommended to speak to the teacher you're replacing when you receive your job offer. Also a lot of research has to be done about the school you're signing with and *pray* it's not bad. Is it similar in Vietnam? Any names to watch out for and avoid? How do you find a good English Academy in Vietnam?

did you do your TEFL online or in person? do schools prefer you to have in-class TEFL or it doesn't really matter?
I did mine online, so did most people I know. But in person can help give you confidence.

Hey sis. Please kindly respond when you see this. Did you use a C1 certificate to get a job in Vietnam because one company I applied to send me a mail that they are impressed with my demo teaching and intro video and I was asked to fill a form for after which I got another mail saying I would need a C1 certificate to process work permit in Vietnam 😢. Do all companies need this C1 certificate
I didn’t need this, but I guess right now the Vietnamese government asks for it.

The work permit is usually for as long as your contact, and you renew it when it expires.

A university degree is not the only way, 5 years teaching experience will also get you a work visa.
I haven’t heard of this before or seen anyone working without a uni degree here.

I really like your videos and I have a question for you 😊 what is the best month to move to Vietnam for teaching jobs and do they pay all year round or only working months…..❤
I’d say from May - August would be the best time cos that’s usually the end of the school/beginning of new school year and schools would be looking for new teachers around that time.
As per pay, I think you get paid only the months you work.

I have BSC in biology in education, tesol and c1 certificate. Is it important to add my CV cos all my experience is in the field of science not English
If you have a teaching and tutoring experience, you are qualified to teach in Asia. Only the UAE would require a teaching degree, teaching certificate from the state and two years of teaching experience.

If you get a job you visa won’t take more that 1 month to be ready, as per agent, I dunno if any, I didn’t use any agents.
I guess your Canadian English accent must have helped you get a job in a private school in Vietnam, correct?
Please help me understand the agent concept. Does it mean an agent can place you at a school and the job is 100% yours or do you still have to follow standard procedure, interviews etc.?
Yea you still have to go through the standard application procedure, interview and all, and agent just helps connect you to a school basically

I get the summer of, 2 months of summer holiday, and I also get all the Vietnamese national holidays.

You get your salary the next month. Most schools pay on the 10th of every month.

Your advice
No. Not good for that. First, because the government is very strict and does lots of monitoring. Second, because it’s a developing country with low wages and Vietnamese is the native language spoken. Any hustling job you hope to take, the company can hire another Vietnamese person for the same salary or less and they would speak the language and have no communication issues. No advantage to hiring you.

What are the basic requirements for eligibility? I have a degree in English Education (2:2), I have taught at all levels from elementary to secondary for about a decade.
Basic requirements is a BSc in any major and a TEFL certificate

You just have to take them to the Vietnamese embassy in your country.
