I love the Memoirs of Lady Trent series by Marie Brennan. It's about a woman who is a dragon naturalist. Each book she goes to a different country to study the dragons there and encounters some shenanigans along the way. The world building and dragons are awesome.
Oh I love these too! I've actually got Within the Sanctuary of Wings sitting here on my nightstand, needing to be finished. Part of me is resisting finishing it, because then there won't be any more story!
I absolutely adore this series! Just finished the sequel (Turning darkness into light), and even though it is written quite differently (it's epistolary!) I loved it as well. I really can't understand why booktubers rarely talk about the series. Everyone who's picked the books (and especially the audiobooks!) ended loving them thoroughly. Couldn't recommend more!!!
It’s so nice to see Temeraire on here! You got me into the books the last time you recommended it and I’m absolutely adoring it! Temeraire is the sweetest little thing!!
I was surprised by how heartfelt it was. There’s something odd but endearing about the relationship between the titular Temeraire and Lawrence(?). Plus it’s a nice alternative history series so that slaps
Definitely my all-time favourite underhyped dragon book is "Seraphina" by Rachel Hartman (and everything else set in that universe). Never read anything quite like it and I'm sad more people don't talk about it. A second underhyped dragon book would be Eon by Alison Goodman.
My favorite dragon books will always Anne McCaffrey's Pern series. Outside of The Hobbit, this is what got me into fantasy as a child and the dragons are so central to the plot. I also enjoy that there's "levels" of dragons, with the main dragons that only a few people can bond, but also the fire lizards that let nearly anyone bond a mini dragon.
Hey! I just wanted to come back and say that I started reading Fireborne because of you and I’m loving it SO MUCH so thank you for making me discover a new favorite ❤️
My favourite dragons (the best ones in my op) are the dragons in the Realm of the Elderlings. Especially the themes connected to them and why they are important to that world are just brilliant. I love them so much❤️
Here's a couple; The Thousand Deaths of Ardor Benn - Tyler Whiteside (dragons are more like firebreathing beasts, but their.. digestive system plays a part in the magic system in the books - otherwise it has swindlers and heists) Fool's Gold (book 1 of the Dragon Lords) - Jon Hollins. (parody on the chosen one farmboy who fights the evil dragon overlords) Rhapsody (Symphony of Ages book 1) - Elizabeth Haydon (features a romantic relationship with a dragon)
Kind of Sci-Fantasy Anne McCaffery’s Dragons of Pern series has some of the best dragons I’ve ever read. They have such awesome personalities and the bond between dragon and rider is amazing! And then there are little cat sized dragonets that they use to help the common people understand the dragon riders better and they are super entertaining. I know it’s an old series but so good!
Tyler Whiteside’s Kingdom of Grit trilogy, starting with The Thousand Deaths of Ardor Benn, has a twist on dragons with the magic system linked to them in an unusual way. They’re a lot of fun with heists and a great band of characters and more lore and themes than I was expecting. Worth a read if you like dragons for sure! 🐉 The Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb features my favourite dragons, not to mention they’re my favourite books of all time!
I love dragons so much, but I love griffins even more, and it would be cool to see some books with griffins in it since they are pretty underused in fantasy
I absolutely love dragons in my fantasy reads and it’s definitely what first drew me to the Aurelian Cycle (SO glad that inspired me to pick it up)! Eragon/The Inheritance Cycle was such a pivotal read for me too and I also adored The Last Namsara (it made me cry). I’m excited to get to Priory, Temeraire, and House of Dragons.
A dragon obsession got me super into fantasy as a kid and hasn't diminished much since. Dragonriders of Pern was the series that I got obsessed with as a teen, at the same level that many people did with Harry Potter. But I haven't found any dragon stories lately that sucked me in so I'm definitely going to try some of these!
Some newish books (out a year or less) that I read which focuses on dragons are Dragon Mage and Ascendant. I loved them both. Ascendant is definitely young adult and has a lot of tropes but my nephew is reading it ATM and he loves it and he hates reading!
this is such a great video. i have it on my ideas list too because i love dragons and my intro being "hello lovely book dragons " i figured i have to talk about them at some point haha I am SO excited to start your book and knowing that there is a dragon with personality makes me even happier!!!
One of my favorite books with dragons is Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede. It's on the fence between middle grade and YA. It's about a princess to doesn't want to fit the classic doll mold of princess anymore or marry the prince her parents want her to marry, so she runs away and asks to live with the neighboring dragons. The dragon accepts and she spends her days organizing the library and the treasure, cooking delicious dragon sized food, and dealing with dumb knights who want to 'rescue' her because they think she was kidnapped. I read it when I was younger and it's still one of my favorite books ever!
I'll mention the Earthsea Cycle, especially Tehanu and The Other Wind by Ursula K. LeGuin (older, more classical fantasy, but I really liked her take on dragons) - and the Reign of Fire series by E.E. Knight, where the main POVs are actually dragons! It was super cool and original, would highly recommend to any dragon lover. :) Also wanted to say, it's because of you I picked up The Winnowing Flame trilogy! I'm loving it so far, am about 40% of the way through The Bitter Twins. 😄
Elliot, your makeup is so ON POINT in this video. Also love the dragon content. The Temeraire series is massive, holy! I will be reading it though based on this rec.
I honestly think its cute when you talk about your accomplishment Elliot! Plus I really really like to see more videos about your book. That's just how I feel.
I always loved any books to do with dragons and in general as well. I actually tried to order Peace and Turmoil from my local bookstore a while ago but to no avail- I may have to see if I can acquire it on my kindle instead.
I started reading Peace and Turmoil yesterday and I got to the dragon part this morning and was like WHAT THERE ARE DRAGONS?! So excited! Also don't be shy to talk about your book, I'm 130 pages in and it's really good so far!
I also recommend Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly. It's really amazing and I feel it's not getting the recognition it deserves (even decades after its release). Main premise/pitch is it's a story about a woman having a midlife crisis on whether she becomes a comitted wife or further her career. And the depiction of dragons hereis a cross between mythical and scientific. They are seen as legendary creatures worth an epic poem to write about, but those who have encountered dragons treat them as creatures in need of further research.
I looooooved that book back in college. I didn't care at all for the rest of the series, but I've read Dragonsbane probably a dozen times. I'm definitely due for a re-read!
My son and I both love to read books about dragons. He is currently reading Wings of Fire. Have you read Black Witch? Lots of issues of politics and race and there are dragons as well. I liked Obert Skye's book, I think the first is Pillage. And Caroline Funke's Dragon Rider. All these but black witch are probably MG.
I really enjoyed The Priory of the Orange Tree and felt the dragons were done well. The only book in your video that I've read so far is The Ruin of Kings and I found it an entertaining read. I will add all the other book you mentioned to my TBR for this year.
I keep forgetting you have been published. Just went and googled to find a preview (previews are very important to me :)). And added it to my Goodreads 'want to read' list. Thanks for the video. :)
People are really sleeping on Temeraire. Its such a well fleshed out world. I understand people not enjoying historical fiction, but if you do enjoy that kind of thing I would recommend it
Guards! Guards! By Terry Pratchett is a brilliant book that features dragons and it’s perfect for fantasy dragon lovers because it kind of lovingly pokes fun at so many dragon and fantasy tropes
I don’t mind Ruin of Kings, it was very different style to anything I’ve read, got a little lost at some points, but overall I liked it. I also have copy of your book, just haven’t got to it yet.and I picked up fireborn since you mentioned it a time or two lol.
Thanks for the video! When I saw the title I thought 'Oh dragons, love those, I've read a ton of books with dragons in them' ... And then I looked over to my shelves and I really don't have that many. Besides ASOIAF I might have... 3? So your recommendations were very much needed. 😃 I really want to try Fireborne and your book!
Awesome recommendations! I only just realized how much I love books with dragons so this was a super well-timed video (my TBR is now bursting lol). Throwing my little recommendation in here too is Dragon Mage by M.L Spencer. It is currently available with kindle unlimited if you have that. Also, if you're looking for a good anime with dragons and that bond between a person and a dragon I would recommend Dragon Pilot! It's on Netflix and it's very good. I found it very cozy. ♥
i bought inheritance when it came out. but i kept restarting eragon from the beginning to get all the story fresh in my head, and it is still here on the dresser brand new never read. im glad people like era! lol
I just read a book called "Four Wings of the Dragon Goddess" By Theodora Quinn. It had Dragons and time travel which for me is my two favorite things. I highly recommend it.
I'm crazy about dragons so thank you for this video :) I loved Fireborne and the sequel is on my april TBR, as well as "the rage of dragons" ;). I highly recommend "wings of fire" and "the lightning-struck heart" by T. J. Klune, they're my favorite dragon books :)
I love me some dragons. I highly recommend the Steel and Fire series by Jordan Rivet. The first one is called Duel of Fire and there are 5 books total. I think I might have to start reading books about dragons 🐉 again please stay safe love you and your amazing channel love your number one Australia fan John
Michael Swanwick's 'The Iron Dragon's Daughter' (and its sequel, 'The Iron Dragon's Mother', which I just became aware of and haven't read yet), and 'The Dragons of Babel' which takes place in the same world, have a COMPLETELY different take on "dragons".
Fireborne was an instant favorite when I read it in 2019, I finally have my copy of Flamefall and will be devouring it this month 🤩 I still can’t believe how underrated it is !
Blazewrath Games by Amparo Ortiz is my favorite dragon book at the moment. Think Olympics meets Hunger Games with dragons. Also, the Septimus Heap series has a dragon and a dragon boat

Rage of Dragons is awesome, one of my favourite new series. Fireborne is also similar to the Jessica Cluess written books House of Dragons and War of Dragons.
Have you read Raptor Red by Robert Bakker? Super interesting. The author is a paleontologist, and I think he does a great job of making the life of the raptor we're following interesting without any over the top weird anthropomorphism.
I love dragons. I have so much stuff to say about dragons, but i won't. I've read a natural history of dragons, it is the best, and have his majesty's dragon on my list.
*The dragons almost feel like overpowered horses* I don't know why this is so funny to me 😂 Oh no, I just got rid of that series from Naomi Novik :( Haven't read it because I thought it's not good since no one ever talks about it. The Bitter Twins sounds do intriguing!

Yes!! I just wanted to comment the same thing. These books are so good🤗 as a biology interested person, they really hit the sweet spot for me😂
Oh I love these too! I've actually got Within the Sanctuary of Wings sitting here on my nightstand, needing to be finished. Part of me is resisting finishing it, because then there won't be any more story!

@@Artemis.97 I know what you mean. I really wanted to read it but at the same time I didn't want the series to end. XD
@@frankiepb I had to addapt to the new kind of format but in the end, I really enjoyed it as well. The granddaughter is awesome.
The priory of the Orange tree has different types of dragons!
Yay! Just bought that one yesterday!
this is one of my fav reads of 2020!! so good
Bought that a few months, stoked to read it!
I swear, you come up with video ideas specifically so you can mention Fireborn more. 😂
Definitely my all-time favourite underhyped dragon book is "Seraphina" by Rachel Hartman (and everything else set in that universe). Never read anything quite like it and I'm sad more people don't talk about it. A second underhyped dragon book would be Eon by Alison Goodman.

Your talking about your book was so charming and sweet. I literally just bought it. Counterintuitive marketing genius!
Here's a couple;
The Thousand Deaths of Ardor Benn - Tyler Whiteside (dragons are more like firebreathing beasts, but their.. digestive system plays a part in the magic system in the books - otherwise it has swindlers and heists)

Ninth Rain series also has a Griffin! You don't really met him until the second book but he is fantastic!

Definitely try the Dragonian Series by Adrienne Woods
Some newish books (out a year or less) that I read which focuses on dragons are Dragon Mage and Ascendant. I loved them both. Ascendant is definitely young adult and has a lot of tropes but my nephew is reading it ATM and he loves it and he hates reading!

YES this was the best series! i read it so many times as a child
a series that's more middle grade but is a series i re-read as an adult and still love is the Dragon Slippers series by jessica day george.
I love how your hoody matches your book
I'll mention the Earthsea Cycle, especially Tehanu and The Other Wind by Ursula K. It's a bummer that they changed the cover style for Flamefall, but aren't releasing the new cover for Fireborne in hardback to match. Like whyy
Elliot, your makeup is so ON POINT in this video. Also love the dragon content. The Temeraire series is massive, holy! I will be reading it though based on this rec.

I only read some of eragon, but it was getting good before I ran out of time.
The dragon rider was always one of my childhood favorites.
So EE Knight did a whole series of books that are from the dragon's perspective and are a very fun read.
Very unappreciated series.
I started reading Peace and Turmoil yesterday and I got to the dragon part this morning and was like WHAT THERE ARE DRAGONS?! So excited! Also don't be shy to talk about your book, I'm 130 pages in and it's really good so far!

Would definitely love a part 2 to this video idea!
Just finished Fireborne at your suggestion and it was amazing. Cried multiple times. And I already ordered Flamefall. oof. SO GOOD

Dragon Weather by Lawrence Watt-Evans. Loved it.

FYI to anyone interested Fireborne is currently 2.99 on Amazon kindle in the U.S at least. Just bought myself a copy and I can't wait to read it!
I don’t mind Ruin of Kings, it was very different style to anything I’ve read, got a little lost at some points, but overall I liked it. I also have copy of your book, just haven’t got to it yet.and I picked up fireborn since you mentioned it a time or two lol.
I only found your book because I went to your website one day a few weeks ago lol. I bought it and it’s on my TBR! I’m excited to get into it.
The Ruin of Kings was a book I really enjoyed but I got so confused if I had to focus at work and missed something.
Thanks for the video! When I saw the title I thought 'Oh dragons, love those, I've read a ton of books with dragons in them' ... Heartstriker series is interesting if you can get over the underdog story setting haha
I love dragons, and this video.
I strongly recommend you read the other Temeraire books, too.
I am absolutely loving Temeraire. I am at the 4th audio book already :D.
i bought inheritance when it came out. but i kept restarting eragon from the beginning to get all the story fresh in my head, and it is still here on the dresser brand new never read. im glad people like era! lol
I'm obsessed with dragons too!!!! For over 15 years now!!!
omg thank u for making this haha i am OBSESSED with dragons 🐉😍
I came here looking for books to read with dragons. What I got was entire plots of the books being reviewed. Thanks
I just read a book called "Four Wings of the Dragon Goddess" By Theodora Quinn. It had Dragons and time travel which for me is my two favorite things. I highly recommend it.

Melanie Rawn’s Dragon Prince, and Anne McAffrey’s Dragons of Pern are firm favourites
Such a good video, I will be doing Dragon marathon reading books soon❤
The Summer Dragon by Todd Lockwood is really good too
Just me adding all the books from the video and comments to my TBR...
I am still learn english but elliot speak so well of Fireborn that I want to try reading this one
Someone can say to me if is the english of this book very difficult?
I need more books with Dragons.
I do want to read Eragon, though.
Alveria Dragon Akademy is a pretty good YA dragon rider/tamer series
I've been waiting this specific content from your channel for a while since I've been subscribed to it. It was worth the wait! 😂🤓🥰
Yay, love a good Dragon Book!
I am SO close to finishing Flamefall and OMG like 30 more pages and I don't know how I feel
Did you purposely match your hoodie to your book? Very aesthetically pleasing!
Blazewrath Games by Amparo Ortiz is my favorite dragon book at the moment. Think Olympics meets Hunger Games with dragons. Also, the Septimus Heap series has a dragon and a dragon boat
Thank u for the list!!! Happy reading to u!! 📖🎬📽
I love dragons :D and politcal stuff and cast systems :D
I'm also obsessed with dragons and sirens too.😍
Ok but like let's imagine the French Revolution but with unicorns 😅 as if it wasn't chaotic and insane enough already! Somebody has to write that!
Hi Elliot, I would like to to start reading Dragon books and I would like to know where to start off?
I haven't read Ninth Rain yet (on my to-read list though lol), but loved Jen Williams' other series Copper Cat Trilogy! Have you read it yet? It, too, has dragons :D
Does anyone know the title of a book/series where there is a dragon that turns into a frog for not acting like a dragon? It is a core memory from my childhood, but I can’t find out what the book is! Thanks in advance for your help
Burn by Patrick ness is such a fun and quirky ya fantasy with dragons! Think you would love it!
A book series I never see talked about is Dragon Keeper by Carole Wilkinson
Blame Eragon if you want (my first dragon book and one of my fav series overall) but I prefer stories with intelligent dragons^^
But I still love all kinds of dragons and I'm very looking forward to read Fireborne and Ninth Rain!
My favorite types of stories must have brutality, tragedy, drama and dragons.
I had no clue Flamefall came out! Now I know what I'm picking up next lol
My favorite dragon related book series is definitely wings of fire I recommend anyone who loves dragons to read it
Love the list
What is the music you’ve been putting at the end of the most recent videos?
Wait! No Talon Saga Series by Julie Kagawa. This is one of my favorite dragon series, lots of dragons and action and some romance and Y.A., it’s so good. A must read for any dragon lovers in my opinion
I need to check that one out!
I am going to look for your book now.
Burn by Patrick Ness, especially because (assuming you've not had it spoiled for you anyway) whatever you *think* the story is at the start I'm 99% sure you won't guess where it ends up.
This book was so good!
Ive been looking for this sort of list about dragon books thank you.
Also why did u not add inherence cycle???
You need to read Robin hobb, the wild rain chronicles are epic
The rage of dragons and fires of vengeance both are so awesome can't wait to read the other books going to read ruin in Kings next month 🧨🔥😃🤣😄😊
Two great, fun dragoncentric books: "Dealing with Dragons" by Patricia Wrede, and "The Last Dragonslayer" by Jasper Fforde
Rage of Dragons is awesome, one of my favourite new series. Fireborne is also similar to the Jessica Cluess written books House of Dragons and War of Dragons.
The bitter twins is a great book
I literally had no idea you were an author
I was more into dinosaurs 🦕 in my youth 😆 but as an adult, I too love a good book with a dragon
Have you read Raptor Red by Robert Bakker? Super interesting. The author is a paleontologist, and I think he does a great job of making the life of the raptor we're following interesting without any over the top weird anthropomorphism.
You match your book!
I love dragons. I have so much stuff to say about dragons, but i won't. I've read a natural history of dragons, it is the best, and have his majesty's dragon on my list.
*The dragons almost feel like overpowered horses*
I don't know why this is so funny to me 😂
Oh no, I just got rid of that series from Naomi Novik :( Haven't read it because I thought it's not good since no one ever talks about it.
The Bitter Twins sounds do intriguing!
I can't believe you left out the Hobbit. Heart Broken.
But seriously, if I'm not mistaken, I believe the Cleric Quintet has dragons, and dragon lance has some dragons in it.
Wish I could thumbs up more than once!
