Threads is a 1984 British film produced by the BBC. The film shows the horrifying, gruesome aftermath of a wide-scale conflict between Russia and NATO. This scenario is an alternate timeline of that film.

"Threads" is an incredible film that should be required viewing for all world leaders and policymakers. I loved seeing a different view of the story.
One should take great caution before watching the film though, as it is not for the faint of heart. It is morbidly, brutally honest. It pulls no punches, and shows no mercy showing what the outcome of a potential nuclear winter would bring.
And it is scientifically accurate too; Carl Sagan was given credit for his work on the movie. At least at the time
Haven't seen it (too squemish), but from what I've heard about it along with other movies like Where the Wind Blows, The Day After, and Barefoot Gen...I now have a crippling fear of nuclear weapons.

Not bad! My only irk about the scenario is that Russia would be about as badly hit as we were. Mutually assured destruction is a near certainty in a scenario such as this.

Russia had much less nukes than the U.S. its part of the reason the U.S. won the cold war was intelligence actually figured that out and Reagan economically wore out the Soviets.

Larger landmass-wise, yes, population wise, no. The USSR would have been hit just as hard as NATO, many of their major population centers are in easy reach.
Thank you for keeping this up. This is hands down my favorite scenario. It introduced me to the movie itself, and really did put a great perspective on how horrible a nuclear war can be.
*Western countries*:
- Everything is destroyed, it's a collapse.
*Soviet Union*:
- Cool we finished them, comrades! Glory to the USSR!
Cool work, many thanks to the authors, this is how analog horror should be, terrifying not through screamers, but through quiet, but inevitable chthonic horror.
P.S. It is ironic that the only country that has used nuclear weapons against civilians is the United States. However, everyone, including the citizens of Russia, hope that it will remain so and power-hungry tyrants will not use it today.

Incredibly made vid well done to sll those that were involved. The visuals really sets it apart from other Nuke attack scenarios and it's quite something to see a full Soviet Victory over M.A.D. curious as to what happens next well done
Rather, the Soviet Propaganda machine was claiming victory; remember that communists WILL push propaganda out their asses to make themselves seem to be doing better than they actually are.

This is a very unique EAS! I absolutely love the different perspectives based upon Threads. It was truly a pull-no-punches look at what may happen if the worst war in the history of mankind were to take place - God forbid.

There’s no chance of evacuation of British cities, it’s impractical. Official advice was to stay put. I think it’s still true today. That said, it’s very well written and very well acted. The news reports really captured the despair and hopeless conditions really well. I thought it was real.
The story/timeline of Threads is a great scenario for Analogue Horror and EAS scenarios.
Soviet Union really said "US dissolved, they weak we win gg ez no re lets rise together!"

That statement from the queen was oddly powerful and empathetic, it may be because of age tendering a leader, but it was still oddly sweet.

The Queen does not have the power to do anything of the things that is attributed to her in this drama. Also the BBC would not use that sort of voice in the 80's and the government of the UK would not use the term "brute force". \i am afraid I am an old g!t who lived through the troubling times of the entire 80's

If my friendship situation were countries and got nukes. Good one! Although might be nitpicking a bit, some HDTV color bars were used (it wasn’t a thing in the 80s).

In this scenario, The Simpsons gets cancelled halfway into its first season. Fox pulls the plug on the show after about fifteen minutes into it, replacing it with a title card saying the following:
DUE TO THE COLLAPSE OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, ALL PROGRAMMING ON FOX WILL BE DISCONTINUED INDEFINITELY. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS ALSO MEANS THAT THE NETWORK ITSELF WILL SHUT DOWN. THE DISCONTINUATION OF FOX PROGRAMMING WILL BE IMMEDIATE. THE SHUTDOWN OF THE FOX BROADCASTING NETWORK WILL TAKE PLACE AT MIDNIGHT.
A little animation would air that night at 11:59 PM (10:59 PM Central), as it would have this:

Itchy: TNT placed inside the fuse box and ready to go.

Itchy: Fuses. Had to use duct tape to get all of the TNT to stay in place.

Principal Skinner: I'm going to miss being on Fox after the building is blown up.
Martin: By my calculations, along with some very smart and intelligent friends of mine, once the breaker box is destroyed, we'll all fade out of existence.

Please watch the movie "Threads", its terrifyingly nuts! Better than "The Day After" as it takes nuclear war out 10-15"years. Nuclear blast are nothing compaired to this!!

I watched Threads (1984 UK Movie) before. But at what cost...
Still terrifies me to be within 50-60 miles of 4 high profile targets: Cleveland, Windsor/Detroit, Port Huron/Sarnia, and London. Even though I would be well out of immediate danger, and have plenty of time to escape to shelter and prepare for the inevitable, I would still be heavily exposed to radiation due to the fact no real good shelters exist in my area, and it mostly is go to a basement and hope the radiation poisoning isn't too close to the fatal range, as it's not likely anyone will he coming for Chatham-Kent, especially with the only real Canadian forces base being a military barracks of the 4th Battalion in London.
This video shows the true effect of nuclear war. I think everyone should see this!

I feel like this vid is good if you don’t wanna watch the full movie of Threads.
Just one little thing, the message from her majesty, while the Prime Minister may have said that the Queen would never. Also the monarch has no authority to send troops anywhere and probably wouldn't comment on the riots either. The Queen would most likely remain silent but had she spoken in would have been a speech about courage, pulling together and calling for peace. She was very good at being noncommittal lol.
There would be no evacuation of UK cities. Our infrastructure couldn't handle it for one thing and roads will have been closed for all but essential vehicles. The advice here was always to stay home and be blown up there and that if you happened to survive you should still stay put as local authorities in other areas will not assist you. Tbh I think the entire "protect and survive" scheme was a palliative designed to fool the public into thinking survival was possible and that the country would continue to function following an attack but your odds of surviving in a city in a shelter built out of mattresses in your dining room isn't going to help you when the top floor of your house has been blown away and everything is on fire.

Both superpowers would've most likely collapsed in the aftermath of an all-out nuclear exchange. Most countries propped up by either side wouldn't survive into the next year.
Most likely. The Soviet elites would quickly find no amount of authority or party loyalty would allow them to survive any better than the serfs. America would still survive in a lesser state. The USSR would be straight cooked.

It’s based off of the film, but that begs the question of why the film is named “Threads”.
Something about it being symbolism for "The threads of society becoming unraveled" or something like that, heard it in a review
@@nulldorito it's supposed to be about how society is threaded together, kinda like a spiders Web, when that web is destroyed, so is all of society as its all loose and not threaded together
That is actually explained at the very beginning of the film, “Threads.” A spider is shown on its web, and the narrator says that a society is made up of many different threads (think food production, the supply chain, medical care, people working in factories to produce goods and energy). Everyone has a purpose and each person’s work supports society in their own way. What happens if the threads are cut? Will society endure or collapse? They explore those questions in the scenario of a nuclear war.
Totally Obvious Spoiler: Society collapses, in the most horrible of ways.
